Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
E.g. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy = Bjorn Borg

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
If I use fertility to mean fecund, the closest I can get is Facundo Bagnis? Not sure about the spelling.
So Terra (or a derivative) something?
Pretty sure this is heading for a moment for me.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
you're getting in right ball parks for 1st and 2nd names...
The actual player doesnt have a UK name though, its a play on the regionality.
And its taken by the 'force'....not taken by force.

Ah the Star Wars 'force' angle?

Not Puerta - you need to get 'animation', then it should be obvious. It's a very exact clue.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Lydian's clue - taken by the force/incarcerated = arrested, jailed, locked up???
I can't think beyond - Paddy, Scot and the other suggestions - Kent? sounds like that could possibly be a name of an obscure US player. Geordie - Jordi or Jordan
Julius - ruin = spoil, trample, break, crush, destroy
something used during animation - toons??? computers, artists, paint, graphics, actors?????
very hard both of you - my head hurts

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
'Mar' has already correctly been mentioned, as has 'iOS' as the IPhone system.
It is something used during the making of a cartoon - old-style, before computers.
There is also another word in the clue - and it's a very exact clue (as they all should be!)

Mar - animation or - ios
What's the word that's not 'animation' and where would it go in the answer?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
For cartoons, the old process is to draw cartoons on a set of cards (story boards) and then show them in a sequence which produces the sense of motion.
I assume JHM is looking for the term that studios use for these set of steps.
If Mario is the correct first name, the other one (apart from Ancic) that I am aware of is Mario Rincon, a Colombian player.
