Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
E.g. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy = Bjorn Borg

Well think 'gold.'laverfan wrote:Gold could be Oliver Golding?
Neon is a Halide and inert. One can derive Nole from Ne and +1 may indicate his current rank.
Amritia3ee, is this the correct direction?
It's not part of the player's name, but it's a clue.
And think the number of protons (+1particles) in neon, nothing to do with neon itself.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
To be fair I don't know why Reckoner was complaining:
You got it from my first clue, and Reckoner found the key words immediately (Gold+10) so it was a case of going on the right path.
Well done Julius
Clue number 1:
'Gold- Au- has 79 electrons. Gold was the key word, leading onto the Gold medal title.
Clue number 2:
'10 protons' neon has 10 protons. I labelled protons as +1- something positive (i.e. the player had won 10 positive things so far)- slams.
Clue number 3:
'Par' was the first syllable- an impaired pair (if we take out the i). Nadal is also known as 'Parera.'

Usually we have been using a 'single sentence' for the clues, not multiple clues leading to a single name. Everything after the main clue is set of hints...

Do we need another hint/clue? I think Julius/Laver could get it when they come on, I'll wait for them.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Good fortune of the bell would be able to 'ring'? Chinese Feng Shui uses bells too.
Good fortune = luck = lacko?
Alas + n (upturned 'n' or the shape of a bell).

You're on the right track
The 'alas' is meaningless, you can ignore it.
