Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
E.g. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy = Bjorn Borg

I swear my browser plays tricks on me. It was something about an old duck but that could be weeks ago!
THis is the latest clue - 'Lenny's feet hurt when he walks.' - Retired Male. It is an anagram.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Well Agassi's feet always looked a bit funny when he walked or was it just his back that hurt him? Not in the anagram anyway!

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Agassi's walk get ridiculed and compared to duck 'waddle'.
It is not Agassi. We have used this player in the previous incarnation of this thread, IIRC.

Not Borg's coach.
The words in the clue are part of the anagram that makes up the players name.

You almost have it. Perhaps a different word for 'ache' would get it closer.

John McEnroe, Jack Kramer, Mark Edmondson, Henri Leconte, Guy Forget? Quite a few linguistic variants. Jacques?

Mark? Henri? Guy?
Jack is well-known alternative for guys whose real name is ?
(e.g. Jack Kramer, but the first name isn't Jack and the surname isn't Kramer)

Hi LF - I'm just all out of ideas at the present, sorry to be a wimp, but you and Julius think up some brilliant clues so could I pass my turn to you???
Also only in and out over next few days so even if brain cells did allow me to conjure up devilish clue, I might not be around to respond.

Surely that's it lydian!
I found the clue too ambiguous, I'm sorry to say. If it is indeed Carl Uwe Steeb then "against" and "the" just confuse matters. Including unnecessary words in an anagram clue makes it unsolvable for me...

I wanted a sentence which made sense. that it threw you off. I will try and do better with my clues next time.
So Lydian's turn now.

laverfan, I hope you took my comment in the gentle spirit in which it was meant. I know from experience how hard it is to set clues...

lol indeed - mine is depressingly not curved in the right way! btw - would never have got that one in a month of Sundays.
Afraid feeling too dim for latest clue as well laver I presume Cleo's lover in art is either Mark Anthony or Julius Caesar???? But I know nuffink about IT comics.
Is this peep, a current or retired player and are they male or female?

Marc Anthony it is as far as Cleo's lover is concerned.
Lydian and Reckoner should know about IT comic strips, I think.
Retired Male.
