Stielgitz v Groves purse bid???
Strange one here, that Groves is going to be his mandatory. Don't see groves wanting it yet, but Stieglitz is a weak champ, so who knows.

Kessler will beat Stieglitz, and Groves isn't ready for a world title fight.

Kessler would crush Groves within 6 rounds.

Re: Stielgitz v Groves purse bid???
Will be shocked if Groves goes through with this world title fight after his post fight comments about wanting to work his way through the domestic/European scene over the next 12/18 months.
Seems Frank is shining one of his WBO belts up for George now that DeGale has threw his toys out of the pram.
Its too soon for George to win this paper title. 14 fights in is not enough. I mean look at Cleverly, his fans still claim he is learning hence the fights against nurse etc. It would be a shame to see George go down the fraudulent champion status route like Cleverly has.

He was with Frank for his last fight (against Smith) and made the statement.
It will be interesting to see how it pans out, but it would be great to see a fighter go through the domestic-british-commenwealth-european-world route to see a good solid stronger fighter emerge rather than one who jumps to the World Title too soon.
I think Groves is a smart fighter and will make the right choices, but this is blatent Frank Warren milking a name that isn't even really a name yet.

What statement? That he himself was nearly stopped in the last 10 seconds of the first round against Smith?
Nearly stopped by Anderson (who)?
Should not happen to fighters on the up. I have not once seen Cleverly ever shook. De Gale has been, now he is at EU level.
The guy is an accident waiting to happen.

George Groves was clipped by Smith, who by all accounts is one of Britains better Super Middleweights. He returns the favour and knocked him out with some brutal but swift and perfectly timed counter punches.
Kenny Anderson was a BIG super-middle and had some experience going into that fight, Groves won.
He's got skills, his timing is very good and let's not forget, he's fighting the best in this country and winning. On top of that he's 23 so he has some time to learn yet.
I can't see how he is an accident waiting to happen? He's humble enough, takes each mistake as a learning curve and isn't shouting above his station. If anyone is an accident waiting to happen it's Nathan Cleverly and his gun-ho walk you down and smother with punches style in a division of big hitters. Unless he leaves his useless Father behind, he's going to get LICKED by a hard shot...

Tosh. He was rocked by a decent hitter in Anderson but calm down a couple of rounds later, showed his class, and knocked him out. He's since shown he's learnt and is more disciplined. Nothing like being 'nearly stopped' against Smith, he was slightly wobbled at worst, in the last seconds of the round as he (naively) dropped his guard and switched-off, came back and blasted the guy out in the next round.
Agree World honours should not be his target now as he'll end up in the same Catch-22 situation Clev is in, hopefully he's a sensible lad and Booth will steer him clear and onto a better path.

Re: Stielgitz v Groves purse bid???
Stieglitz will more than likely lose to Kessler in April and I cant see Groves fighting Kessler within the next year.
I dont get all this accident waiting to happen stuff. Yes, obviously if you put him in against one of the best Super Middleweights in the world he may well be an accident waiting to happen. While he is being matched sensibly and according to his level then he looks a decent prospect.

Re: Stielgitz v Groves purse bid???
he's better off learning his trade a little more and waiting his turn.
he's not had too many fights and is still learning the game. winning a world title means he should mix in the world circles (some champs dont) and its a touch too soon for him

Groves is a very good prospect. That's what he is. A prospect. Why rush him now? To be a world champion you have to beat the best out there. That's Ward. Unfortunately I can't see Groves, DeGale, Kessler all beating Ward even if they each fought him one after the other on the same night.

Re: Stielgitz v Groves purse bid???
The purse bid went ahead and according to boxingscene was won by Stieglitz's promoters for around $800k.
Seems odd considering Groves hasn't got passed his next fight yet.

I'm sorry but to be judging Groves on a very below par performance from him against Anderson is stupid; and yes he was kocked down....but so was Ward against a weaker opponent than Anderson and now he is regarded as the no.1 super middleweight in the world

I hope you're responding to previous comments above?
It's odd for Stieglitz to select, firstly un unknown guy and secondly an unknown guy who 'could' lose and then make his fight even harder to sell.

Yes i was sorry haha
and not now seeing as the fight with Anderson is off but i see your point!
It wasn't Stieglitz it was the WBO who made him mandatory...
