The Cleveland Browns GM on Brandon Weeden:-
"I really like him a lot,'' said Tom Heckert. "We're going to see him (throw) tomorrow. He's mature and he's telling you it's a positive. He's a really interesting guy. He's super smart.''
It seems there is a distinct possibility of the Cleveland Browns drafting Justin Blackmon at 4th and then Weeden later on.

I think it's that or Tannehill, both have their downsides but I don't see a FA QB being brought in to be the starter, from everything I've read the offseason priorities are to retain our own players and not to go after any big names.mikeygnfl wrote:It seems there is a distinct possibility of the Cleveland Browns drafting Justin Blackmon at 4th and then Weeden later on.

If Peyton Manning does end up with Denver Broncos, what are the possibilities of the Jaguars making a play for Tim Tebow?
Their new owner seems keen on him, he is a big hero with the Florida Gators and will surely help with attendances/ the franchise in Jacksonville

Re: Peyton manning released
Bud Adams wants Manning in Tennessee
Peyton Manning played his college football at Tennessee. If the owner of the Titans gets his way, that’s where Manning will resume his professional career as well.
Adams told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that he wants Manning in Tennessee, and he’s willing to spend what he has to spend to make it happen.
“He is the man I want. Period,” Adams said. “And the people that work for me understand that. They know who I want. I want Mr. Manning with the Titans and I will be disappointed if it doesn’t happen.”
From a business perspective, it’s easy to see why Adams feels that way: Manning remains an enormously popular figure in Tennessee, where he had a brilliant college career, and in a state where the Tennessee Volunteers are huge, the Titans would be able to charge virtually any price they want for season tickets if Manning were their quarterback.
However, Wyatt reports that Titans General Manager Ruston Webster, Chief Operating Officer Mike Reinfeldt and head coach Mike Munchak aren’t on board with Adams’ goal. The Titans’ football people think veteran Matt Hasselbeck and last year’s top pick, Jake Locker, make quarterback a position where the Titans are strong.
So that raises the question: Will the owner get his way? Or will the football people get to shape the direction of the football team? Adams sounds like he knows it’s a long shot that Manning would come on board, but he also sounds like he wants the fans in Tennessee to know he’s doing all he can.
“I hope to be one of the teams he looks at,” Adams said. “Since he went to school in Tennessee I think Tennessee is where he should be. I think he could play for two or three years. I think he’s the guy that could come in and turn this around for us. That’s why I am so anxious to get him to come visit with us and I want him on my team. I could sit down with him and show him what [we’d be willing to pay]. If he would come [meet] with me he would be happy with what he’d get. . . . I want Manning.”

Re: Peyton manning released
Think it's hard to trade Tebow away, I'm sure the fans would welcome Manning but they won't be happy with Tebow leaving. Also the Broncos aren't deep on receivers, and the offense would be changing completely again for the third time in a year. Though apparently they are interested in Manning, and I'm sure someone will be stupidly taken in by Tebowtime, Jacksonville would look like a team that will pay over the odds.mikeygnfl wrote:If Peyton Manning does end up with Denver Broncos, what are the possibilities of the Jaguars making a play for Tim Tebow?

Apparently Chiefs and Seahawks have both been denied a chance of meeting with Peyton Manning. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/11/report-chiefs-seahawks-out-of-the-manning-chase/

Re: Peyton manning released
I'm loving all this talk now that the Skins have got the #2 pick. How many teams are being disrupted now with the Manning chase and the run at #2? Owners/GM's have now managed to alienate their starting and drafted future QB's at the Bronco's, Dolphins, Browns, Cardinals, Titans and to a lesser extent the Chiefs. I understand some of the reasoning and that none of these teams have a sure fire winner in place, but this season it seems to me teams are being more public about their dissatisfaction with their QB's and I think that can only hurt them.
Put yourself in Lockers shoes. Drafted as the future for the Titans, he's pretty much been told by his owner that he wants him holding a clipboard for the rest of his rookie contract. Tebow thinks he has the starting position in the bag, and the Bronco's then start slavering over Manning. McCoy and Kolb may well be the masters of their own destiny, but it must sting them for the teams to be so public about this. The Phins may be the the only ones not bothered, as I can;t see Moore being entirely surprised they would be looking for an upgrade, and Henne was pretty much on his way out the door anyway when he got injured.

Good points Skins, something I've thought about too - especially in Denver's case.
These teams are effectively saying that they'd rather go for the quick fix and that they'll kick out their starters the second something better comes along.
Although to be fair to some owners, that 'better' is Manning.

At this stage, not knowing how effectively he can play, is Manning a better option than one you know about? For some I'd say if he can play at 80-90% of his best, he would be better than what they have. But for the rest, is he enough of an upgrade to warrant spending that money?

You could say Tebow and Locker might benefit from learning under Manning, but with him bringing in his own system (that I can't see either of those guys running) that effect would probably be pretty minimal.

See Curtis Painter, Manning doesn't want to mentor he wants to win, and that'll mean not wanting to give up any first team snaps to a developmental QB. I hope he doesn't come to the Titans and realistically I don't think he will, I'd rather see us bring in some FA impact players on the D, than at QB where we are solid if not spectacular at the moment.

T & L - Adams is adamant (sorry, couldn't resist) he wants Manning, but his coaching staff are not on board with that. Be curious what ramifications there are down the line, either way.

Re: Peyton manning released
Be interesting to see how Adams' relationship with his staff is when they fail to get Manning.
I would not be surprised that if the Broncos land Manning, Tebow then gets traded. This whole Tebow thing has been a headache for Elway and if he's ever going to ship him out, then that would be the time. They might keep, but when you think about it, Tebow isn't going to get any better standing on the sidelines. Manning will get all the practice reps and Tebow will not get the work he needs to try and fix the shortcomings in his game.

Re: Peyton manning released
Given that the Cardinals are apparently $16.4million over the cap limit at the moment I think they don't have much of a chance of securing Manning, though they would save a fair bit cutting Kolb.
Also think it's a dumb move for the Titans, Hasselbeck showed he can still play and they were right to chose him over retaining Kerry Collins for their veteran quarterback, then Locker should stay as their quarterback for the future throw him in to start towards the end of the season and see what you've really got in him.
A good point, it can't exactly be great for the confidence, but equally it could give them something to fight for and get to either prove the coaches wrong and that they shouldn't have gone out for a replacement, or just to prove that it's not a need to solve in the next offseason if they get an extra year. Does seem pretty unfair on McCoy though, he wasn't meant to see the field in his rookie year but injuries forced him to play and he did fairly well, then when consistency would be highly useful he gets a completely different offense to learn without being able to speak to coaches for the majority of the offseason, plus Hillis has been a massive Holly Wilaboobie this year when he should have gone and shown the franchise he was worth the money he was asking for.skins4ever wrote:McCoy and Kolb may well be the masters of their own destiny, but it must sting them for the teams to be so public about this.

Re: Peyton manning released
I was a ittle annoyed because i really believe in locker but the more i think about it, its too good to pass up. A hof qb who isn't looking for the biggest deal, enough cap space to get a familar weapon for him, pass rush can be adressed in the draft, a great o-line in pass protection, a good rb, britt on form, a 2 year deal with locker learning behind him isn't too bad. Locker would then have one year as a starter before the titans decide whether or not he will be worth a 2nd contract(im sure he will get it). Although im still happy if Locker takes over, just don't want Hasslebeck, solid player but not going to do great things, Manning=playoffs in that divsion i think

Re: Peyton manning released
If Denver can get Manning and trade Tebow to the Jaguars for their 7th pick in the 1st round then that could really push the Broncos on next year.
The best Manning comment I have seen so far is that the 49ers should sign him then trade him back to the Colts for Andrew Luck.

Has someone seriously suggested Tebow for a 1st?
I just don't see Denver attracting Manning. If anything, given his history etc. its between Miami and Tennessee, though I think Miami has the edge with being able to make an offer and having Marshall still in house. Titans need CJ2K back to full strength more than they need Manning, but he could be tempted given his ties to the state.

Kenny Britt with Manning could be quite a sight too. If we are assuming Reggie Wayne goes wherever Peyton does, Manning, CJ2K, Britt and Wayne make for a decent offensive force

Don't forget Jared Cook at TE, he's going to be huge next year regardless of QB, hear me now thank me later :p

Wayne's apparently saying he is unlikely to wait for Peyton to sign before he gets a deal going. Makes sense, as Colston just got a big deal with the Saints, Jackson is hitting the market and there are others that could end up taking money that teams would spend on Wayne. he's no spring chicken so can't really afford to hold out if he's set on playing for a contender next year.

Looks like the Cardinals are clearing cap room by releasing Levi Brown, who has been a massive disappointment (and if I recall correctly, I believe we bypassed Adrian Peterson to take him).

Exactly what I was thinking, but despite the injuries he still managed 700 yards but only 3 TD's, he should do better this year if he stays healthy.crazy_dave23 wrote:thunder and lightning wrote:

It's being reported that Manning has narrowed his choice to either the Broncos or the Titans.

They probably make the most sense at this stage of his career. The Broncos are in a wide open division and have a fairly decent roster and the Titans in Tennessee where he played at college. The Mangler US_UK wrote:It's being reported that Manning has narrowed his choice to either the Broncos or the Titans.

Titans would be interesting - it would mean he'd have to play Indy twice a season!!
I wrote the Titans off a few days ago as I figured they'd want to see what they had in Locker who showed some promise last season. I was way off the mark there! Looks like they're quite happy to risk stunting Locker's growth in favour of some kind homecoming hug for Manning.

From some of the things I have read, it is hardly a homecoming! The University of Tennessee is in Knoxville, and the Titans are based in Nashville, which are about 3 hours apart supposedly. The Vanderbilt Commodores play in Nashville, and supposedly half the city can't stand Tennessee as it is a big state rivalry! Then again I suppose for the good of their Titans I am sure they could find a way to back Manning

everything is in place, his wife is from near the area apparently and his family have links to several coaches. Also the fact Bud said peyton would have a role waiting for him upstairs would appeal to manning i think, would be great offensive mind on a coaching staff

worried aboutl ocker though, hopefully manning signs a deal no longer than 2 years and that means locker will at least have a season as a starter before he would need to be resigned

Re: Peyton manning released
Steve Hutchinson, former Pro Bowl guard, just signed with the Titans. Not sure if that's Manning related, but he'll need all the protection he can get and that would make the Titans look that much more appealing.
Also, Manning is scheduled to work out for the Broncos. Elway is flying out east for it.
Not looking good for my Cards. Looks like Kolb and Skelton will be dueling in the preseason.
