All quiet on the Western Front

As the battle between Haye and Wlad/Vitali(?) draws ever nearer, I'm rather surprised that David Haye hasn't been his usual verbose self and flooded the airwaves with soundbites aplenty. In fact, all I've really heard is Wladimir giving interview after interview explaining how he's going to punish Haye for 12 rounds before KO-ing him and "put his ass on the canvas". I'm just wondering if Haye's (relative) silence is part of a bigger gameplan and a ploy to get Wlad all hot and bothered and try to make him lose his composure as the fight gets closer.

You've all seen (and probably been involved in) the instances of one person trying to draw another into a war of words but just getting more and more riled as their opponent remains cool, calm and collected.

We all expect Haye to come out with something outrageous/offensive but could we see him throwing Wlad a curveball by being Mr Sensible thus making Wlad look unhinged in comparison or is haye simply biding his time before coming up with something to trump his "decapitated heads" shirt?

By the way, does anyone think that shirt will make an appearance in the next couple of weeks

My money's on a shirt showing Haye smashing mummy Klitschko's back doors in. While the brothers watch. Dressed as Girl Guides.

Maybe now that Haye as got what he wanted he feels no need for the rhetoric and is getting himself down to serious business.

There are other interpretations, of course, but I'd like to think that this is the case.

Haye's never been short on bombast and big talk, so I don't think it will be too long before all of that resurfaces. I think he's astute enough not to revive THAT t-shirt (was never a hit to start with) but I think it's only a matter of time before the 'I'm going to destroy Wladimir, he's got no heart, he's boring, the public are desperate to see me smash him to pieces' bravado reignites. It's part of Haye's makeup.

That aside, I think haye is probably biding his time. There will probably be some sort of promotional campaign, at which point haye will go into overdrive on the arrogant, cocky, abusive and shock tactic front. Until then he'll be concentrating on getting prepared. He's in Miami doing early conditioning work right now. His other problem is he won't even know who he's fighting til early may, so no point giving it large about decapitating wlad if it turns out that vitali will be the opponent. Hayes playing the long game, he's a shrewd guy.

Personally I'd like to see a load of David Haye fans with their own homemade shirts showing something equally disturbing whilst Haye wears a nice shirt and says, "Look, it wasn't my idea"

Maybe they could run a competition and the winner gets to wear his shirt whilst accompanying Haye to the ring!

Windy, whilst I'd love to believe that Haye has turned a corner and, realising that this fight doesn't need any OTT hype, is simply focused on training and tactics, there's a part of me that thinks is really is just a matter of time before he says something silly and, there's even a part of me that's looking forward to it!

Her unending foul mouthed tirade during the AA fight was little short of embarrassing...and as for Wlad's other half, I think Tom Cruise will prove that having a wife doesn't mean much in the great scheme of things.

Haye's probably waiting to see who he'll be facing - think Wlad still has an option to withdraw with Vitali stepping in.

If it is to be Wlad then look for Haye to go ballistic with his assault on younger bro's psyche. He can probably gain an edge with some well placed needle - as Chisora showed, Wlad can be wound up pretty easily.

If it's Vitali - forget it. Older bro is one of the meanest SOBs in history - mind games would be pointless.

Nice post and some very good points.

To be honest, apart from Wlad, Audley and Enzo (or more to the point, Frank Warren), Haye's never really gone OTT with the trash talking. I think Haye knows who CAN be wound up and who can't (there was no need to try winding up the likes of Ruiz) and whilst Wlad may not be mentally fragile per se, he does seem naive enough to get drawn into the verbal battles with Haye. It makes me wonder why Vitali hasn't taken him to one side and advised him not to bother!

Not sure if anyones covered it but could Wlad's current mouthings be because he'll step aside come May and let Vitali have Haye?

Maybe...and it could account for Haye's silence on the matter. Maybe David's letting everyone think he's 100%focused on Wlad but he's really working hard on a gameplan to defeat Vitali. Or maybe he's letting everyone think he's focused on Wlad so they'll think he's focused on Vitali but he's double bluffed them and he's still focused on Wlad

Quite possibly, unless maybe Haye knows they are playing games and is planning to just get in the ring and start windmilling?

I can see the Klits playing games with Haye as to who he is going to fight. Good strategy if you ask me as it keeps haye guessing up until the last moment. Both brothers training for Haye and Haye modifying his training for each brother. Sounds unfair, but such is life.

I think he could get to Vitali with some mind games but only after he has beaten Wlad. The Klitschko's clearly have a close relationship so if Haye were to KO the younger brother I imagine he would play on that to get under Vitali's skin.

I dont think Saunders got under Vit's skin. The man is a robot gone bad. But Haye still beats him imo.

The promotion campaign hasnt really started yet. They still have to confirm a venue and even if Wlad will be deemed to have recovered. The fight is still a good 3 months away.

Im sure once the final details are decided and the promotion campaign starts we will see Haye do his usual pr stuff and try and hype up the fight.

Be interesting to see Haye in the build up...Ity's alright calling someone out but once you get him things change....This is the first real fight where Haye will be in with someone that has the capacity to really hurt him..I imagine vlad will be favorite.....

He's giving away a load of weight and will be fighting someone who is alot stronger.....We all knew Valuev had the speed of a Coma patient!!!

Sure he might get the t-shirt out but let's see the body language..
