Stat of the day
Wales margin of 7 points over England is the joint ( with the same fixture 2 years ago) biggest home 6 nations defeat England have ever suffered. For a bigger margin we have to go back to 1988 ( again bloody Wales!) when they won by a massive 8 points.
Maybe that puts a bit more context on what an achievement that win was ( even if this is a devalued 6 nations etc)
Says something about England too, even when they've had truely woeful sides like 2006 they dont get beaten big at home by NH opposition and havent lost twice aat Twickersin the nations since 1983.
Seems they are very much a home side.

Re: Stat of the day
It is true that England very rarely lose at home by much in the 6N. Indeed, I can remember only a few occasions in the past 25 years when we've lost any 6N games by more than 10. Crumbs of comfort as we seek to emerge from a bloody great 8+ year hangover...
On a separate note, it would surely be a record not many will match in future if England lost to Ireland this w/end to finish with a record of 2/2 lost at home and 3/3 won away: Fortress (anywherebut)Twickenham?

So if Ireland win comfortably next week will England continue with the SL experiment?

When was the last time a team went 3 from 3 away from home, and 2 for 2 at home?
Also a stat I heard yesterday that I am not sure is true, but am too lazy to look up...
James Hook is 13 months older than Preistland WTF?

It's not 6N's related but NZ's Doug Howlett has the record of 7 tries in his first 7 caps for the AB's which is impressive. They mentioned it on the BBC before the France game.

It's actually 8 tries in his first 7 tests, made even more impressive by the fact that 3 of those appearances were from the bench, including the one he got a brace in.
After Ohata, I believe he's also got the best try/test rate as well.
It's crazy that he left international rugby at only 28yo. The best wing of the last decade in my opinion.

He can also boast the greatest margin of difference in looks in sportmen's relationships, from his Mrs (a model and 'fit') to him (face like a dropped pie).

Really? The OP just said that in the last 25 years (well, from '88 to now = 24) that the maximum has been an 8 point loss. When did they lose by 10?!

The OP refers to 6N games at Twickenham, Simon is including away games

OH I don't know. Carl Froch is batting way out of his league, and didn't Keith Wood (Uncle Fester) marry a cracking looking Irish television personality.

Rokocoko scored his 29th and 30th test tries in his 26th test against SA in Dunedin.
Unfortunately he then had a dry spell and didn't score for another 7 tests. Still he did have 31 tries in his first 35 tests.

"Habana scored 30 tries in his first 35 tests.."
And scored 10 in the next 40 with 5 of them coming against Italy, Namibia and Samoa. Now that is a drop in form if I ever saw one.

That is definitely true, but you also have to consider the game plan was the reason he was starved of ball, and slowly over the last 4 years his confidence must have been dripping away slowly and surely with each passing game.
He really had two things to do during PDV's reign, chase the kick and tackle your hear out. SA wingers over the past four years were on a hiding to nothing when it came to opportunities.

I'd like to know what his stats have been in SR however... his form dropped for his province as well... but perhaps not as much as for the boks.

I managed to find some info.fa0019 wrote:I'd like to know what his stats have been in SR however... his form dropped for his province as well... but perhaps not as much as for the boks.
2011 with the Stormers he scored 4 tries out of 34
2010 with the stormers he scored 6 tries out of 34
2009 with the bulls he scored 8 tries out of 48
2008 with the bulls he scored 5 tires out of 30
2007 with the bulls he scored 8 tries out of 38.
Can't see further detail.
total caps for the Bulls from 2005 to 2009 was 61 caps and 37 tries.
So if I work out earlier form in the super Rugby then it would suggest that he scored 17 tries during 2005-6.
his total caps for the Stormers from 2010-11 is 29.

Re: Stat of the day
thats not games right??? rather total number of tries scored by the teams themselves... i.e. last year the stormers scored 34 right?
So for the bulls he scored 21 tries in 3 seasons in about 45-50 games. Thats a decent load, but no where near his record in JW's boks.

'reputable butchery'
Now that sounds like the mission statement of a 1970s Springbok team!
For your info, the England XV in the 70s was probably
'charmingly inferior'

Well at least it is nicely put. you almost want to be called charmingly inferior, sounds like something that could come from a russian carmaker's newest model's test drive.

I hadn't realised France have won five of the six, 6N games against Wales in Cardiff.
I see Yachvilli is in and the French back row are miraculously fit again. Wales 2 from 7 anyone?

He managed to score 1 try against .......... Scotland

Re: Stat of the day
I actually picked England to win against Ireland this last match but that impressive stat could so easily be under threat.
Eden Park though has a better record in recent times than Twickers. I imagine a few grounds in SA are happy hunting grounds as well. I remember Biltong came up with a strange one (port elizabeth or something) that had the best overall record though there have been few test matches there. But Ellis Park and Loftus Veld must be graveyards for visiting teams.
No taking away though that´s an impressive stat for England as like you say PSW England have not been exactly a model of consistency in recent times.
