Rain must have come down very hard or you would think FEderer would have had time to try and hit an ace!

The rain delay saved Sky! Without the rain delay, they would have missed the end of the match. As it was, they missed a single point only.

This is quite a shock, if Fed wins this tournament, which he could do, that's 3 tournaments in a row....and Fed has finally got into double digits in his victories over Nadal! This victory is very special, perhaps some Nadal fans will now agree that Fed isn't just capable of beating Nadal @ the end of the season but also in the start too!

My predictions for the day:
Djokvic 2-0 Isner
Nadal 2-1 Federer
Couldn't have been more wrong!!
Amritia called it though, as a 2-0 for Fed.
I was impressed with how FEderer handled the wind.

If Fed wins tomorrow, the gap between him and Nadal will be less than 1, 000 points....within striking distance....who would have thought that Fed would be that close to second?

Don't think Federer cares about 2nd. If he gets close to 1 he'll be interested.
A few years ago, no-one expected Fed to be clearing at mid level tournaments and not doing as well at the slams..it's the reverse of what we thought then...

Don't worry summer, if Roger lost his many fans would claim he did get tired. When he wins tennis isn't tainted and he didn't get tired. If he loses well that is a different matter altogether.

A third set would have been intriguing the way Nadal was trying to push harder.
Federer. .
for Nadal, but he is the toughest competitor in Tennis. He will find a way.
Looking forward to Miami after the final. Perhaps a new MS champ in Isner, the way he played today or the 'old' man may win the title.

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
Roger got tight tight serving it out, went bad to ow he always plays Nadal but could have easily let the match slip away from him there.Thats something he has really improved in his game the last few months
If he wins tomorrow he matches Nadals 19 masters series record, which means Nadal has no real stand out record of his own anymore.Amazing how the weak era guy is managing to match records in a stronger era..

Clearly that is what I was referring to also. But the point holds both ways. Rafa surely does not "outsmart" him either in his wins, and I heard that here too.

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
That is true, Fed may not care about No.2, but it means that if he's No.2, it impacts the seeding for tournaments, so if Nadal drops to third and Fed moves up, then Nadal may have to face Djokovic in the semi finals in future instead of in the final, which is good for Fed because Fed typically has a better chance of beating Djokovic in a slam than Nadal, I'm sure no one will disagree with that.
I think Fed is building up his confidence in a sense and beating top players at these lesser tournaments may help. It helped Agassi when he went on the challenger circuit (although he didn't face top players in those). It may work for Fed, it may not, but what Fed needs right now is an equally impressive run @ Miami too, getting to the final or winning although we'll see about that.

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
My feelings anyone but Roger, some of his fans have officially turned me into a one man anyone but Roger club. Go Isner.
Laverfan, Roger won so I guess the game isn't tainted, we don't need to speed up the conditions, and I guess he didn't get tired after 60 minutes.
Maybe this is the time I should be a loser fed fan mentality guy and claim that John Isner is a doper. But actually, I lack that ammoral anti-tennis mentality, and realize that Isner played a great match, has talent, and deserves to win. Maybe if one time Roger fans would acknowledge that this website wouldn't be such a nasty polarized place.

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
So who do people think wins tomorrow? I go with Feds, hard to bet against him these last few months against anyone bar Rafa. I know Isner is the other guy who beat him recently, and I saw John's match today - I thought he was fantastic - but just cannot see him beat two top players back-to-back.
Then again, given how my predictions went today, it will probably be an easy Isner win.
Rooting for Federer, but would not be too upset if Isner wins. Was mightily impressed with his overall game - he is so much more than just serve now.

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
I suppose this has to be the best result for tennis - in terms of having more realistic challengers for the upcoming slams. Both Djokovic and Nadal knocked out at the semi-final stage, Federer convincingly beating Nadal on a slow court, and Isner breaking through into the top 10. Perhaps the only disappointment of the tournament has been Murray's straight set loss to Garcia Lopez in the second round .

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
Judging from Federers straight set dismantling and crushing of Messieurs Del Potro et Nadal one would have to side with him in the final.
Let the reign rebegin.

Roger won so can some of his fans explain how he didn't get tired after one set or sixty minutes of tennis on the blue clay against the talentless moonballer?

No JM, I am curious according to Fed fans Rafa can exhaust his opponents in less than a set of tennis so why didn't federer collapse on the blue clay today?

Re: Rafael Nadal (2) vs Roger Federer (3) LIVE MATCH THREAD - Fed completes easy win
Hi Socal, this is Nadal's first tournament back since the Australian Open. I was a little surprised that he also entered the Doubles tournament, and has played four Doubles matches and has reached the final. Nadal has to gear himself up for Roland Garros, where he has the opportunity of breaking Borgs record. Then there is Wimbledon and the Olympics.
Kudos has to be given to Isner for making the finals of both the singles and doubles tournaments at Indian Wells - he has played along with Nadal the most tennis of this week.
Well done to Federer - this win over Nadal was more important and necessary for Federer than it was for Nadal.

Et Tu! If you attribute such powers to 'some of his fans', have you questioned why you did not mirror their attitude vis-a-vis Federer, and chosen what you state here.
socal1976 wrote:Roger won so I guess the game isn't tainted, we don't need to speed up the conditions, and I guess he didn't get tired after 60 minutes.
You have come to this conclusion based on the result of a single match. Which means the AO 2012 final's conclusions by the 'other' side are valid too?

So you do not trust your own evaluation of Isner being the better player today, and require the affirmation from a set of fans, which excludes you? I am surprised to see the faculties of rational thought being lost in the depths of a single emotional upheaval.
I am very sad to see the rationality of a tennis fan being lost, and a fanatic rear it's ugly head. Your choice.
I mourn the loss of a rational fan and watch with deep foreboding, the birth of an emotional one.
