Next Scotland Manager.
With it being likely that Andy Robinson won't remain Scotland Coach after the 6N debrief in about a fortnights time, who would you like appointed and why and also who do you reckon will be in the running?
I say that contenders will be: Nick Mallett (if he's not England Manager by then), Michael Bradley (despite you guys not wanting him), Sean Lineen, Mike Brewer, Eddie O'Sullivan, John Kirwan, Bryan Redpath and possibly John Jeffrey (former Under 21 coach).
Maybe i have added a few names who won't be considered and also omitted anyone who may be considered.
My personal choice: John Kirwan.

Re: Next Scotland Manager.
If Robinson goes (fingers crossed), what happens next will depend on whether we have to keep Johnson and Taylor. A new head coach would want to pick his own assistants but it might be difficult to go back if contracts have been signed.
Scott Johnson is a backs specialist, with Taylor focusing on defence. That means that if these guys are staying, we will be looking for a head coach with forwards expertise. No point in getting a backs specialist as head coach if we already have Johnson, so for me that makes it far less likely that Bradley or Lineen will be promoted.

Hope it's not too difficult to find someone willing to work with the existing assistants. But if we haven't appointed anyone by the summer I'd be interested to see Johnson and Taylor themselves taking charge on a caretaker basis for the summer tour to see how they go, with maybe Shade Munro as forwards coach on a temporary basis. They could make team selections between them but maybe with a remit to be less conservative and give the likes of Weir and Scott a proper chance

Re: Next Scotland Manager.
Well Robinson said "judge me on results", the results have been awful, white washed in the 6 Nations, knocked out at the World Cup pool stages and 9 points better than Georgia, and 10 better than Romania!
The results are pathetic, and it proves to me he has no honour or integrity because he hasn't already resigned. To be honest if that happened in Wales he'd of been sacked already!
Personally I'd give Sean Lineen a chance, in the role, he has done well at Glasgow.

Re: Next Scotland Manager.
The number one choice should be Mallett/Meehan. That coaching team would be a serious coup.
Second choice would be Eddie O'Sullivan.
Top Scottish option is Bryan Redpath, although I personally think it's too soon, and would rather he continue his development at Gloucester. Maybe next time for him.
I'm not a fan of Kirwan, Brewer is a massive clown and whilst I have massive respect for the job Lineen did at Glasgow, the style of rugby he coaches is conservative at best, which was what the doctor ordered at Glasgow, but I'm not convinced it's the right approach for Scotland, and I have no basis for knowing whether he can adapt.
On the basis of the above, the SRU will probably appoint Brewer.

alive555,
yeah good. I can handle that Townsend stays at Scotland and we get Lineen back at the Warriors. If that were to happen Scotland would be out of the top 20 rugby nations in 2 years FFS !

Re: Next Scotland Manager.
fES, I thought that Brewer was rejected lat time, so can't see it happening.
As I see it, there are 3 categories:
1. Proven, experienced international coaches - Mallett, Kirwan, O'Sullivan (EOS would be my favourite out of that lot)
2. Experienced S15-level coaches - Blackadder, Foster, Meehan (former Edinburgh man Blackadder would be my favourite, but not sure whether he'd risk being out of the Kiwi loop for the next 4 years
3. Domestic coach - Lineen, Chalmers, Murray (Ayr) , Rankin (Dundee HSFP), Donaldson (Currie), Redpath/Hogg (come as a team) - Chalmers would be my favourite, borders grit and true rugby passion
Plenty of choices, now we just need the vacancy - c'mon, Robinson, do the honourable thing, you have no credibility left
