The IRB rankings are a crock of you know what! ;o)
First topic message reminder :
Wales win the grand slam - beat everyone in front of them, yet England beat Ireland by a large score (well done on that by the way) and are above us
http://www.irb.com/rankings/index.html
I realise that most people don't pay much attention to them, but surely there is something fundamentally wrong when you are lower in the rankings than a team you beat?
Are England better? Me thinks not!

No worries wickedwasp, most stadiums have a resemblence to a toilet bowl, but I guess the interpretation of art and design is in the eye of the beholder.

That you did just like we did last year in Cardiff, the home of the self confessed best team in the NH, shame the IRB rankings don't back that up.

I'm a little surprised that there isn't a big party being organised at the MS plus an open top bus parade celebrating 5th place in the IRB rankings?

Well, 6000 fans turned up to cheer on the Welsh Grand Slam Champions outside the Senned the other night.
I'm shocked myself that the England squad haven't all been knighted for finally beating Ireland

Two Rabo games with the crowd numbers combined you mean?
Actually, this is a good point. While Welsh international rugby basks in the glory of another GS (I know, I know, its just as inexplicable to the rest of the world as it is to us) - Welsh Regional rugby is in dire straits, poor attendances and financial woe. Surely this will have a knock-on effect for the international game in years to come - or maybe as soon as next year, when Wales will finish in their post GS year 6N position of 4th.

That’s the trouble with more bums on seats statistically you're going to get one or two nutters.

Very true, statistically for every 45 million spectators we have, there is a mad hatter. They either tackle a referee or throw bottles.
Because of our average crowds that happens once every few years.

Bottles thrown is small cheese when you have, players eye gouging, biting and cheating with fake blood a sad time indeed for the poor runners up. Wen was the last time england managed a grand slam???? Yeah that IRB ranking table really makes sense bwhahahahahabwhahahaha what what.

At least Wales are in the top 5, and as we all know on their day they can beat anyone!
Except NZ. and SA an AUS when played in the SH.
That’s not a bad return for a small corner of the UK.

When was the last time Wales beat a SH side???????????? or even got to a final of a RWC let alone won one. England do both these things regularly..............................maybe that's why we are higher in the rankings

I'm sure Adam Jones's mate boris johnson is actively canvassing the Queen and parliament on their behalf. Don't you have to actually win a RWC to get an MBE for rugby?

Richie McCaw turned down a knighthood, but accepted an MNZ (MBE equivalent). The rest of the ABs missed out.
Though scoring 7 runs in an Ashes cricket series is enough for an MBE from memory

Once every 10 years would be regular, but not frequent, hence the use of "regular", although against Aus I'd argue that frequent would also apply.

Should anyone that plays a game get an order or equivalent for the country?
It appears that like so much in this country, things that are meant to differentiate us have been eroded!
Give someone a certificate for taking part (much like England losing to Wales and finishing 2nd )
The game is just that.... a game. The fact that the players get loads of cash for it makes no difference - what service have they done for the country?
One another note.... I am quite impressed that this one thread has dragged on for so long... it's getting like a warburtons red card thread

If Wales were to lose all their games coming up in the summer( Snigger, chortle and guffaw) , where could they end up in the rankings? which i know will be more managable for them and their fans, as a lot are suffering from vertigo and nose bleeds now they are up to the dizzying heights of 5th!!

Yeah WUM it up kid, if they lose all their games and England do too then Wales wil be ranked above them, quite possibly in 4th

It sort of depends on other results EW. England are likely to lose all 3 to South Africa, so if Wales lose 3-0 the two teams will drop about the same amount. If Ireland manage to turn their form around and pinch a match in NZ they'll skyrocket up, but I think the important series rankings wise is Argentina vs France - either side could make a move.

Since Ireland are the lowest ranked of the lot, they stand a better chance of moving up in the rankings
Just need to win the series in NZ 1-2, that should'nt be too hard should it?

Que, eh?? what? If they manage to pinch a game in NZ? Look, did you see Ireland at the weekend, they couldn't pinch a game if it was stolen to order, Dear, dear me, do you have any knowledge of what you administrate?
