The IRB rankings are a crock of you know what! ;o)
First topic message reminder :
Wales win the grand slam - beat everyone in front of them, yet England beat Ireland by a large score (well done on that by the way) and are above us
http://www.irb.com/rankings/index.html
I realise that most people don't pay much attention to them, but surely there is something fundamentally wrong when you are lower in the rankings than a team you beat?
Are England better? Me thinks not!

Because they have logistical problems with the small unions
Also the likes of fiji and Samoa have a fair crack to move up, its just you dont have a clue how the rankings work. The reason they dont is that the only top 10 team they ever beat is Wales and they cant even manage that any more. The points they would gain with the 1 in 10 games they can win against top level opposition get sucked back up when they keep losing. The same as the points any of the 6Ns get for the once in a blue moon wins over Sanzars, long term they stay ranked below them...because they arent as good. If anything playing very occassional games gives you a better chance of a freak result overanking you for a long period...look at Tonga.
I am quite sure that has england played Samoain the WC 2011 they would have certainly lost. They still do NOT get the opportunties the big boys get and if you think they do kindly list all the games played in Fiji, Samoa and the othe PI nationsover the last ,,,,, oh 10 years,

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now peter don't have a hissy there old chappy me laddy. I read what you wrote and it really never answered my worries, but I never thought it would dear chap.

I would not worry about them, as I have already posted to have england drawn as 1st tier and Wales 2nd tier in the world cup only favours one team WALES, beaten them home and away on the trot now. You will see the silly ones telling us that the TESTs before the WC were friendlys...FRIENDLY TESTs yeah right.
I would just sit back and let the english fester in knowing they are 2nd best in the NH, it will gall them for 12 months hahaha
Not what the rankings say
No a Welshman saying Wales are better than England is a far truer reflection on the facts than an unbiased ranking system employed by the IRB.............NOT

I expect the IRB will soon change the rankings to the system which Plaid Cymru, the Western Mail, and a handful of Welsh 606 posters use. This includes almost victories (Welsh defeats by less than 30 points), and only acknowledges Englands results if they have lost, hence the table;
1st Wales 180 pts
2nd NZ 91.43
3rd Aus 89.99
etc
1000th Eng 0.00
Finally the world will see what they know to be true

I'm proud of the fact that the English don't celebrate being the 4th best team in the world?
Yet I feel we should make more of the fact that we are the Best ranked NH team.

The IRB rankings will remain biased until Wales climb above England.
Then the rankings will become the golden epitome of international rugby wisdom. Although that could be a while. Come back here late summer anyway.

I don't care what the rankings say, Wales have beaten England in the last 2 games played, Ireland in the last 3, Scotland and Italy in the last 5, and France in the last 1. Were the best in the northern Hemisphere, regardless of what the rankings say.

Well the easiest way to make the IRB rankings not look bizarre in places is simply to win as many tests as possible from now on, starting with Australia.

Well guys there certainly seems to be a lot of mileage in the rankings nonsense
It will be interesting to see the championship this year to see if Argentinas' IRB ranking over the last decade has been overly inflated by their serious lack of games!
Personally, I would like to see the rankings zeroed (exudling the top 4 ) and then start all over again for the top 20? - I think below this and it would be pretty futile, although Wales could play Barbados, The Bahamas, Columbia etc, a couple of times.... If only to give us 0.31 points

Exactly, its not supposed to be a league table or a list of who had the best team last weekend.
Stop whinging so much, the system works the same for everyone, yet it always seems to be the welsh that get hard done by it? Hmmm....
Celebrate your victory and grand slam, stop being sad and jealous about the rankings. Be happy people.

The rankings are not there to show who the best team at this point in time is. If you were looking at them for that you were looking in the wrong place anyway

When Wales actually beat a SH side then, and only then will they move up to the heady heights of 4th, but Wales are a see saw side who can't really get their act together when it comes to taking on the 'Big three'.
Also, Wales have lost a lot of games prior to the World cup and actually during it, and this is why they are where they belong. Below England!!

Yeh I agree, we were outclassed by France in the previous 6N, lost at home to England and then lost again to them away. We did beat England in the reverse warm up but lost to SA first game and then ultimately lost to France and Australia. But things are different now. England have done well, like Wales at the world cup they too have only been together for a few weeks. I think this Welsh side should now be judged from what they do from the summer tour down under through to the 6N next year.
We would have played Australia 4 times, NZ, Argentina and Samoa all once, only then can we see how close Wales genuinely are to being a outright top 4 side. I for one am hoping for just the one test win in Australia realistically speaking, but its not out of the question for a 2-1 series win. Away from home is never easy especially out there, but one test will do me fine as it will show we are capable of not only beating a SH side, but beating a SH away from home. I would then hope to beat the Aussies, Argies and Samoans at home then who knows if we can overcome the NZ hoodoo on us. England will be judged in a similar way with their summer tour to SA and the AI. Then we will see where the two sides are and what they have the possibility to achieve in the future.

We got nowhere to go mate, we have alreay infiltrated Europe with players that qualified for "other nations" just to make "other" stadiums our home ground in order to know what it feels like to play Ireland at "home"
