Usher to play Sugar Ray Leonard in upcoming film

Not sure if this has already been done but...Usher has confirmed that he's set to play Sugar Ray Leonard in an upcoming boxing film called Hands Of Stone.

Far from a fan of Usher, but would still be interested in watching..

Has the makings of a great film. Hopefully they don't ruin a great story like they did with the Ali movie...

I'm not too sold on Ushers credentials, but he'll bring some much needed interest into the achievements of bygone boxers underneath the Heavyweight division.

Leonard looks young enough to play himself to be honest. Probably a better actor than Usher too....

De Niro has been cast as Ray Arcell, can only be good for the film overall, can't think of too many bad films he's been involved in.

A lot of the reports I can see have Al Pacino as playing Arcel. Don't have full internet access in work can anyone confirm if its De Niro or Pacino? Either way shouldn't matter too much both are quality.

I hate biographical Boxing movies...

1. They tend to be cheesy as hell...

2. They misrepresent opponents ...look at the Cinderella Man...

3. The cast is usually second-raters....

4. The Boxing sequences suck...

5. The films are usually boring and 90% is just plain fiction..

Apart from that they are okay!!!

paperbag, IMDB are listing Pacino, and they tend to be reasonably reliable, whilst we are on the subject of films apparently a sequel to the fighter is being mooted, covering his fights with Gatti.

Truss would also add they tend to pick odd fighters as subjects, I mean we all have a lot of time for him but Mickey Ward? He is hardly a legend of the game

The one where he goes toe to toe with the best in the business and gets robbed everytime!!!

But he's good to his Mum..saves a kid from a burning house-fire...and Meg Ryan falls for him....

A bloke called Ryan Kwanten is playing Ken Buchanan and Pacino is playing Arcel, according to imdb only 6 roles have been cast so far and that includes chaflan and quinones.

Why would they call a film about SRL - Hands of Stone? Surely that would be more suited to Duran?

Not sure if serious? The movie is about Duran. Usher is playing SRL who was a major part of Duran's career?

I have no objection for the film but NO WAY can they top the real fights with a screen version, albeit I guess only boxing fans who have seen the real fights will be disappointed, which I guess will be the minority.

I always thought at the end of the first film they should of shown a worthy 10 minute highlight of the first fight.

On behalf of boxing fans across the world, I respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision to make a film about Roberto Duran and his duel with Sugar Ray Leonard. The rivalry was and indeed is one of the great duels our sport has had and will ever see. It catapulted boxing to the front pages - let alone the back. It ensured and enshrined both men in many's top 10 p4p of all time.

Footage of all 3 fights are available on youtube. The story of Duran and Leonard has been well documented, by Giudice and in 4 kings.

As such, if you could cease and desist from your bringing your brand of simplistic, one dimensional slush to one of boxing's greatest stories, I would be most grateful.

I have taken your previous performances (Ali, Cindarella Man, The Hurricane, Undefeated) into account when considering this.

Frankly - if you can take Ali's story and make it boring, you should not be allowed within 20 paces of a video camera.
