What do people expect from today’s disciplinary hearing?
IMO I hope he doesn't play again this season, and I hope he never plays for England again (if found guilty of course!)

HERSH, so long as you remain sitting, one option is kind of covered.

I think most people would have more respect for him if he just admitted to attempting to wind Hartley up, let’s be honest most of us would if you thought the player would react and get yellow or red card especially as Ireland were being hammered.

Cabbages - I'm assuming you mean Hartley not Ferris?
In fairness, Hartley's disciplinary record has been exemplary for 5 years now, so that seems a little harsh.

Re: Justice_4_Hartley.
There was the time that Dylan was tending a baby sparrow with a broken wing. He allowed the poor mite to nest in the gap in his back teeth. He would chew worms into a wormy mulch to feed his little friend until one day the sparrow came back to full health and flew away.
Now I have heard that a magical bond was formed between the two. That little sparrow often returned to its great cavernous sanctuary when it felt that its protector may be in danger. In a flash of sparrowy precognition it knew that its great friends life may rest in its feathers.
Crouching low, mimicking its natural pussycat foe it stalked its prey. As soon as that wormy looking pinky entered its masters gob it struck with all its might. “My life for yours” it chirped its final cheep.
As we all know, once a sparrow stings it will die very soon afterwards. Unwilling to let his comrades memory be sullied little Dylan swallowed hard and took the blame.
A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

Very good Subm!
Has anyone else listened to the interview that Mallinder gave to that Northampton Chronicle?
http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/northampton-saints-mallinder-saints-are-a-clean-club-1-3676109
What is he complaining about players getting bans while on International duty and how it's not fair on the club? It's the player who is being punished by a ban and if any side he plays for is adversely affected by that ban then take it up with the offending player!!!!
Is he really suggesting that someone found guilty of foul play in an International match should be allowed to continue to play for their club?
That's just daft!

Darn! I thought I was hiding it so well!
I am indeed not a fan. Too much off the ball stuff for my liking. Then there was the whole eye scrabbing thing. Not convinced he scrummages legally either. That has no bearing on whether he is guilty or not though.
Thunor,
The thought of taking on board any aspect of the disciplinary dealings of football is not a happy one.

Got to admit, I've always wondered why he doesn't get pinged every time for standing up in the scrum.

Ah, Thanks Eireb!
:shucks:
Thunor,
I know what you mean but I am happy enough for the citing/banning thing to be kept exclusively for foul/dangerous play.
The sin-bin should already be punishing players and teams for cynical play in rugby.

Because I'm pretty sure it's not actually illegal to stand up in the scrum

No it's not illegal but the book does say that they must bind "firmly and continuously".
20.3(a) Binding by all front row players. All front row players must bind firmly and continuously from the start to the finish of the scrum.
Sanction: Penalty kick

And,
20.8
(i) Lifting or forcing an opponent up. A front row player must not lift an opponent in the air,
or force an opponent upwards out of the scrum, either when the ball is being thrown in or
afterwards. This is dangerous play.

Re: Justice_4_Hartley.
But that's the thing, he/all hookers that's stand up are still bound to their props. I think there is a sub section about standing?
And MrsP the fact that he's the first to stand up, means that he is being forced up so it should be a penalty to him

I am certainly not going to pretend I have any idea of what goes on in the front row of a scrum but I think he repeatedly stands up.

Re: Justice_4_Hartley.
That could be that he's either being pushed up which is a penalty to him, or he get pushed up through pressure so it's a scrum reset.
Unfortunately some posters have half an idea of what they think are the laws and then bang on about things if it's gospel.
And the nearest I get when playing is second row, I'm far to good looking to play front row

Re: Justice_4_Hartley.
Well it is illegal to force an opponent upwards out of the scrum and, to me, that is what it looks like he does at almost every scrum.
As I say though, by no means claiming any expertise on front row play, just describing what I see and how I read it in the light of the Laws of the game.

Marcus horan was (rightly) pinged against Connacht for driving up and not straight in the scrum. Trouble is he did the same thing the next scrum and got the penalty. I think that there are far too many front rowers getting away with driving up.

If he was forcing someone up he would be the second to stand up as his head would be pushing upwards under the opposition hooker.

Not mirky at all. A player reports an incident to the referee, who sees the resultant marks left on the players finger.
This is a clear cut scenario in every sense. I am amazed at some of the responses on this thread.

We do that at the Dragons, but it obviously comes across better when it's not as isolated. I think it's funny personally.
