Edinburgh V Scarlets
First topic message reminder :
Edinburgh Rugby team to play Scarlet at Murrayfield Stadium tomorrow night (Friday 30 March, kick-off 7.35pm): 15 Tom Brown; 14 Lee Jones, 13 Nick De Luca,12 Matt Scott, 11 Tim Visser; 10 Greig Laidlaw CAPTAIN, 9 Mike Blair; 1 Allan Jacobsen, 2 Ross Ford, 3 Geoff Cross, 4 Grant Gilchrist, 5 Sean Cox, 6 David Denton, 7 Ross Rennie, 8 Stuart McInally
Substitutes: 16 Andrew Kelly, 17 Kyle Traynor, 18 Jack Gilding, 19 Esteban Lozada, 20 Roddy Grant, 21 Chris Leck, 22 Phil Godman, 23 Jim Thompson
Have to say I almost danced a jig of joy when I saw the returning Scotland players!
I've said this for months but we've really got to win this - need some confidence in the squad as we can't be heading to play Toulouse having barely won any games since before Christmas.
Good to see Lee Jones back too - would have thought this week would be too soon for him but hopefully he is 100% and hasn't just been rushed back.

Re: Edinburgh V Scarlets
Hi guys - just back from the game, and what a game!
Edinburgh absolutely dominated that first half and fully deserved to be 14 points up at half time. Denton was absolutely titanic and Rennie was a total nightmare for Scarlets. De Luca and Scott were playing well and we even had the upper hand in the scrum! Visser had some good runs too.
Scarlets fully deserved to be down to 13 men - the first one was for killing the ball and the 2nd was from Rees who deliberately knocked on with Edinburgh attacking in the 22. 6 man Scarlets scrum, Edinburgh push and get a penalty try straight away.
So I was quite happy at half time!
But Edinburgh really didn't play the next 8 minutes well. We should have gone through the phases, breaking Scarlets down and getting opportunities. Instead we threw stupid wide passes and kicked the ball away, meaning that when it was 15 V 15 we'd only got one try and should have put the game to bed.
What then followed was total domination from the Scarlets for the next 25 minutes! Forwards got the ascendancy and their backs scored some good tries. Your young full back looks a great player in the making.
Luckily though we held out and had a few massive turnovers when the Scarlets had scrums on our own 5m line.
So great win for Edinburgh - a win and no injuries, that's what we wanted!
Plus points for me were Denton who was phenominal, Rennie was great and the front row made all the difference from the past few weeks.
Worrying points were the lineout (Ford's throwing was crap again) and the lack of composure when we were 2 men up.
Scarlets didn't really get out of 2nd gear until the 2nd half and even then didn't look overly bothered!
So great win Edinburgh - well done Scarlets for the fight back!

Quick note on the Rennie sin bin - it was one of those lifted the legs up tackles but my word it was a soft one. That guy was pretty much on the ground when he did it and there was absolutely no danger in it at all.
Stupid from him though, and luckily it didn't cost us!

Edinburgh asleep for a crucial 8 mins? Sounds familiar. Well played Edinburgh, you've done Glasgow a massive favour and let's hope you can progress from here next weekend

Aye RDWs comments bang on. The back row combined well for the 1st try but we did well to hang on under huge pressure in that 2nd half.
If we play like we did in the 1st half we have a chance against Toulouse next week, if we play like we did for patches in the 2nd we'll struggle. RDW you going next week? Fancy some banter?

Lucky it was Rennie, a player people like, and not De Luca. Had it been De Luca there would be calls for his public execution!!
As you say, great result, no injuries and hopefully Talei will be nicely rested for next weekend. Hopefully the lessons of the second half can be learned during the week and taken onto the pitch against Toulouse. It was a good warm-up.
