Munster v Ulster
First topic message reminder :
Well what a difference a few days make. Leinster stroll past Munster in Thomond, Ulster cruise past Airioni and now definitely fancy their chances on Sunday and rightly so.
My Munster team if players available would be
1. Wian Du Preez
2. Mike Sheery
3. BJ
4. DOC1
5. POC
6. DR
7. POM
8. Coughlan
9. Murray
10. ROG
11. ZEBO
12. Maifi
13. Earls
14. Hurley
15. Jones
Pretty much picks itself bar hooker and back row. Line out was just so bad that Varley has to pay the price. May not have been all his fault but Sherry has been knocking on the door and deserves a shot at this level.
DOC2 had a solid game but I think the partnership of POC and DOC should stand us well. DR to the back row.
Rodders Ulster team
15 Terblanche
14 Trimble
13 Cave
12 Wallace
11 Gilroy
10 IHumph
9 Pienaar
8 Wannenburg
6 Diack
7 Henry
5 Touhy
4 Muller
3 Afoa

Re: Munster v Ulster
So you think playing Paddy Wallace is a good thing, Stag? Good on you - he is the best 12 in Ireland, after all. Of those provinces that care to try and contribute, anyway - obviously I'm aware that you guys have O'Mafi.
And the Grand Slam was won by those players despite, not because of, Kidney.
Anyway, there are two Ulstermen coaching teams in the final eight of the HEC. There's only one Munsterman. Next season, there'll be none.

Re: Munster v Ulster
BTW you may have notice that from the 30 players named in the squad 27 are Irish.
Re: Munster v Ulster
I think he's a brilliant player, but I would be willing to concede that I don't think he's ever delivered what he's capable of at international level. I don’t know why – maybe because he’s only been there to give Darcy a break, and he knows it?
I wish fans of other provinces wouldn't try to turn him into a scape-goat, though, at the drop of a hat. It's telling that there was infinitely more vitriol aimed at Paddy for giving away a last minute penalty against Wales, in a game we won, during our Grand Slam, than there was when Ferris gave away a last minute penalty in the Wales game this year, which we lost, effectively ruling out a Grand Slam.
A lot of people don’t like Paddy regardless of what he does or contributes, it seems.
As for 27 of your 30 being Irish - I don't care. It just affirms to me that your tax break incentive is working. € € €

Hopefully Don he uses that as motivation to turn over Munster at the weekend
I'd guess if he does turn in a match winning performance even fewer Munster fans will like him after this weekend

TOL gets similar flack despite the fact he hasn't been that poor this year (leaving aside the England game)
We need a name for the game. The "Tussle in Thomond" , maybe. I thought of something that would probably pish off half the people on here but I'm going to post it. If people are offended I will get rid of it.

I said on an earlier post and it's worth repeating, but Tom Court came in for some serious critacism after the England game.
Since then he's been really brooding, and in games has a face like thunder, I honestly would be scared to even be near him at the moment.
I think he's really really wanting to have a good game to show the southern press than he's actually a decent player, I don't think there will be a step back from him in the scrum or anywhere round the pitch.
He's like a man possesed at the minute and has a point to prove, and Thomond is the stage to prove it.
I expect a standout game from Court.

the only thing about that king is that he will be up against Botha in the scrum so i expect he could struggle in this department but i totally agree that he needs and is more than capable of putting in a big performance to get the Southern media to give the bloke a break and give him credit when its deserved!
his try at the weekend showed a hunger i haven't seen for a while
hopefully he proves us right

An Ulster Fry is a dish similar to an Irish fry only better. There isn't a Munster fry that I'm aware of.
To save time I'll add a Munster fry would be 97% Irish pork while an Ulster fry includes large portions of Biltong.

Don I really like Paddy Wallace but IMO he joins the likes of James Coughlan and Shane Jennings as a top club player who couldnt quite make internationally.
You yourself admit that he has never delivered for Ireland - I certainly dont buy that he knew he was only a replacement and couldnt motivate himself. A top player would have earned the right to be in first team.
However he is very likeable and does very well for Ulster.

Hook criticised him a bit before the England game. But any criticism of him for the England game it was usually said it wasn't his fault, but he wasn't a tighthead.

Re: Munster v Ulster
Anyone else think Trimble is due a big game??
He had a decent 6N but didn't hit top form, wasn't brilliant last week either.
I think he'll produce a big one against Zebo, who he spoke very highly about recently. He'll be keen to put a marker down against a man hunting his Irish jersey.
This will be a stormer I think! Both sides will be seriously fired up!
If anything I'm worried about the foreign guys, I'm not sure some of them will be expecting the ferocity that awaits them at Thomond! We'll need the Trimbles, Bests, Henrys etc to meet fire with fire!

Re: Munster v Ulster
I'm a big Mike Sherry fan but think he is best used as an impact sub.
I also think that Ryan at 6 will work a lot better than bringing in O'Donnell.
It gives us way more lineout options and will keep Ulster guessing. Also we have used that combo to good effect this ERC campaign already. Starting O'Donnell ahead of Donnacha Ryan and David Wallace in a quarter final doesnt make sense to me especially when we have O'Mahony as well.

Wild - we won't win by THAT much.

Re: Munster v Ulster
Personally I feel that Ryan and POC is the best 2nd row combo we have. O'Mahony is a better 6 than a 7, O'Donnell is the best fit 7 we have available and gives us more balance in the backrow, IMO.
We still have 3 very good L/O options in Ryan, POC and POM there. Having DOC there doesn't really give us another L/O option.
