Ranking Points Give Away
Sometimes it takes blood, sweat and a few tears to earn a few measly ranking points other times they arrive more easily.
Garcia Lopez is ranked 77 and has 671 ranking points. He gained 45 of those points by beating Machado (rank 83) and Murray (4). Not sure if he had to play qualifying matches too.
Murray beat Falla (71), Simon (13) and Tipsarevec (9) in Miami and gained 600 points. This is a similar number of points to Garcia Lopez's total for the year.
It's very tough to climb the rankings...

How many points did Nadal get for not even turning up for that semi-final match?

Re: Ranking Points Give Away
Where was the 'sympathy' for James Ward at Queens last year when he defeated Wawrinka, Querrey and Mannarino?
Anyhow Garcia Lopez won 2 matches and Murray 3.
Bit of a bizarre comparison.
Are you saying people who win less should get more?

None - but he earned 360 points for winning the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and QF matches and getting into the Semi-Final.

Nadal earned ranking points for winning his quarter final but got nothing for the semi final because he withdrew.

How many ranking points did Ward earn? Did he defeat Wawrinka? That was a big victory for him... I'm surprised I havn't heard about it.

Ward got 90 points for that effort.
He played 5 matches which would equate to 18 points per match.

I have just checked. Ward earned 90 points for defeating players ranked 273, 14 (Wawrinka), 26 (Querrey!) and 54. He was beaten in the semi by Tsonga. What an amazing run! Wasn't Querrey the defending champion?
But he only got 90 points...
That makes Murray's 600 look even more like a gift.
