Dragons signings - any info?
There's rumours going around about Tom Prydie, dan Evans, Manu, Daniol Jones plus a few South Africans like Peter Grant. Can anyone confirm if there's any truth in this?
Also where's R.Rees off to, he'd be a welcome addition to the squad.
Looking at the players leaving we are in desperate need of a 2 locks and a quality 15.
People have had a winge that we may be signing an experienced 10 even though we have the highly talented Steffan Jones and Lewis Roblin but if one gets injured (Steffan has just done his ankle) then we are very short of quality. It's a long season and I'm sure they will still get plenty of game time. They will learn a lot from someone like Grant.
Any info would be appreciated.

I am not too sure on Manu, the rumblings I have heard are along the lines of it is uncertain as to whether he is leaving the scarlets or not.
I guess with Thomas Prydie and Dan Evans that is pretty much the signings that were required in the backs. Prydie as wing/fullback, and Dan Evs as Fly Half/Fullback/Wing.

Not really. He would be a good signing, but we have Turnbull (4,5,6,7,8,), Shingler (4,5,6,7), McCusker (6,7,8), Murphy (6,8), and Gilbert (6,8) who all play in the same position as Lydiate so that would seem a rather dull signing for both player and region.

Heard the lydiate rumour, not sure how much truth is in it. He is going out with a local girl from pontyberem, and they are looking to relocate to carmarthenshire. Maybe someone has put 2 +2 together and come up with =7.

Re: Dragons signings - any info?
So it looks like the Prydie deal is going threw. Next season is massive for him, he's got a lot to prove after his welsh caps. Still he's only 20 and has time on his side but he will need to step up and own the 15 Jearsy next season. I'm pleased with that signing, at 6ft 4" he will be our biggest back, we've been very lightweight in the backs for some time now.
Who are the locks we are looking at?

I don't care if they're from the southern hemisphere or Greenland as long as they're good. I swear we go weak at the knees when we hear an Antipodean accent and lose sight of whether or not they're any good.

All of one lock? , if that's the depth of Saffa locking talent then this tour will be easy enough, hey we'll even let you have Botha back if you want!

Now why would we want Botha back. It is like giving someone a sarmie and then asking for it back after it has been sweating in the plastic bag for months, with mould running riot.
Sis man.
I have decided that as of now I will oppose any of our players playing overseas, unless of course I don't rate them as necessary to our own cause.

Lol. Wales and Scotland try and get them so young that we don't always have chance to decide whether we rate them or not.

Re: Dragons signings - any info?
To be very honest with you it is starting to me off that clubs are starting to draw our youngsters from such a tender age.
It might not look like it is making a big impact, but looking at France in particular, there are a big number of youngsters who might run arounf with a French rugby jumper in the near future.
I honestly think the IRB need to start looking at a way to limit this or alternatively compensate the countries that lose these players.
By my count there were over 40 SA players playing in the top 14, and half of those played only a handful of games in SA provincial rugby, with some picked right out of Craven Week.
I am beginning to think we must deny access to foreign scouts at our rugby matches.

I heard somewhere (think it was the Western Mail so I don't promise factuality or realism) that the IRB were looking into something along the lines of compensation for nations whose players have instead 'qualified' for another country - think they were looking at helping the Tier 3 countries, but don't know much details.

Those are very good signings, I'm pleased with that. Peter Grant would be another very good signing but surely he wouldn't come here with the low money we could offer him? Gavin Henson anyone?
I think we could do with a few forwards, but not Deniol Jones... Maybe we should look to the Premiership who have some good scrummaging forwards (Keys).

I agree D Jones would be a waste of money and you could probably do much better raiding either your own Prem clubs or the other regions Prem clubs.
I'd like you to sign R Rees though

Deiniol Jones would be a waste of money. He's coming to the end of his career (and he hardly set the world alight at his peak) and we should be trying to get a lock who has his best years ahead of him.

It was IIRC a proposal by the NZRU - a cunning plan which would (a) send some money through to the PI teams letting the NZRU pat itself on the back and (b) send quite a lot of money NZ's way which would help NZ keep the more of the players it wants to hold on to.

NZ makes proposals to the IRB, a lot of the time they get voted down. I'm sure other countries do the same. And NZ gets it's 2 votes on the committee, same as the other major nations.
I'm pretty sure this one hasn't been voted on yet, but given that most of the 6N countries will probaby oppose it I can't see it passing.

Re: Dragons signings - any info?
Deniol is one of the worst 2nd rows in the world on current form. We don't need or want over teams rejects. I thought we had put those days behind us. I would assume the Dragons will be looking a scrum half Dyer, Hodge, the props and the hooker all from Cross Keys, now that Burns is retired.

Yeah you'll need all the countries outside of europe to vote on that one, as the rest won't want it passed, Japan would most likely vote with the rest of europe.

Re: Dragons signings - any info?
im only joking kiwi
it makes perfect sense for countries to want to protect their investments (players) or have their losses accounted for.
Theres too big a grey area for a blanket rule though, its the problem with qualification as it stands as well, too much grey area!

Can anyone tell me if any Georgrain has played for any country other then them. They are away from home alot but all seem to look at playing for their country as the top honour
Other countries it just seems to be about playing international rugby
It mainly seems to be the big three and the PIs though I think nowadays it is less PIs but second generation living in another country eg most PIs playing for NZ are accually NZ

I just remebered the Dragons will also probably be bringing Hallam Amos through. We are starting to get a bit congested in the back 3 and need more centres. Grant or Henson would do nicely for 12 cover. Any chance of us dropping Tuilagi?

there are plenty of prospects both in our academy at 20's but also u18s we have about 6-8 players in the u18's welsh side and colleg gwent are near the top of the schools competition, add into that the success of teams like keys and id say we have plenty of bodies to bring through, not all are going to be superstars but all are gwent boys and will give 100% to the cause im sure,
the money we have freed up losing long dog and brew should be wisely invested in 1 or 2 top quality players and the rest concentrated on bringing our own boys through IMO
