Shaun Derry Red Card appeal rejected
Shaun Derry has had he's appeal against his red card against Manchester United on Sunday rejected due to "Denying an goal scoring opportunity"
The Rangers skipper was sent off by referee Lee Mason in the 14th minute for a foul on Ashley Young, with Wayne Rooney scoring the resultant penalty.
Replays showed minimal contact with Young, who was in an offside position when the ball was played through.
But the Football Association turned down QPR's appeal.
Derry will now miss Wednesday's Premier League visit of Swansea City to Loftus Road.

That is completely ridiculous! How they can possibly justify that is unbelievable.
There shouldn't have been a goal-scoring opportunity in the first place as Ashley Young was offside, and Derry barely touched him.
I don't know how the FA can possibly justify such a stupid decision which could have huge implications on the relegation battle.

Re: Shaun Derry Red Card appeal rejected
I'm no fan of QPR but this decision is ridiculous!! The contact between them was absolutely minimal, and certainly wouldn't have caused Young to go over as he did. If he wanted to he could've stayed on his feet and - most likely - scored himself a goal.
Which leads me on to... i'm not a fan of is the seeming increase in more players trying to get others sent off rather than score a goal. Carroll last week, Young this.
I don't understand why they'd rather go down cheaply and get someone sent off than score themselves a goal. Particularly Carroll!

Carroll probably just didn't have the confidence to score the goal, or didn't want to have to score against his old club. It was an awful dive nonetheless.
I think the most unbelievable thing about this decision is the fact that they're refusing to admit that the assistant referee made a mistake when Young was offside, so there shouldn't have been a goalscoring opportunity anyway, so there'd have been no foul and no red card.

This is an outrage. Im not going to get into the diving debate because its been done to death and every team has divers but they had a chance to at least take the ban away when it was clear as day that it was a wrong decision. The fa are a bunch of cowardly, corrupt, scumbags.

I think it has more to do with stupidity than cowardliness or corruption. It's down to the Respect campaign. They feel like if they go against a referee's decision they take away some of the legitimacy of the referee leading to a loss of respect, the same way in which they won't take retrospective action if any of the officials saw it during the game.
It's all about balance, they need to find the right balance between promoting respect for referees but still being able to make good retrospective decisions later on to right wrongs.

I dont see how anyone can have respect for any of the refs in the prem, they are all incompetent imo they game is too fast for them and they need video tech to stop them from making weekly outrageous blunders. The fans and players will never have respect for the refs until they show they can do their job without bottling it at big grounds or just making basic mind boggling errors, the fa had the chance to put something right that was clearly wrong but they chose not to so they can stick their respect campaign, I will start my own campaign called the "We need video tech bescause the refs are not up to the job campaign"

Because the offside wasn't given, they can't take that into consideration. It would impact on the all the decisions that happened after.
The question was is he the last man, and did he make contact. Yes to both of those.
It is wrong common sense wise, but it is a cruel world

Completely agree. I also agree with everyone, it is a ridiculous decision, but because the obvious offside wasn't given, they can't take that into context.
From Lee mason's view and it real time speed it probably looked like a pen. He would have seen the hand come out and the fact Young was turning towards goal it definately looked like a pen, and because Derry was the last man he had to go.
However, it does stink, the fact offisde cannot be taken into account is ridiculous. It shouldn't matter what the ref could see, it wasn't a foul and therefore it should be over turned. You wonder why football has no common sense. This ridiculous appealing of red cards, the offside rule and the lack of goal line technology, which as we have seen so far this season, could be the difference between a side staying up or going down.

The FA and their independent panels have a 98% conviction rate, so this decision comes as no surprise.

"But the Football Association turned down QPR's appeal."
They are covering their own sidesback.

Not sure how they can ban Derry and not Balotelli. Shouldn't matter whether the ref saw it in the Balotelli incident same as it shouldn't matter the offside wasn't given.

There was contact albeit minimal.
The Balotelli incident is shocking. How can the ref say he saw it and say it was fine.

I'd go futher than using the word "shocking", but I'd be moderated and possibly arrested for saying what I really believe, to put it simply, as implied by others, how can any organisation demand respect, when they themselves clearly don't understand the meaning of the word, the entire FA should be sacked en masse and replaced with people who understand that football is a sport, not just a business opportunity, any 12 five year olds in England would be better suited to running our beautiful game than that shower...Stella wrote:The Balotelli incident is shocking.
