Peter Short retires Empty Peter Short retires

Any day that sees one player cut his career short is sad, but two or more retiring is v bad.

Exeter have today announced that Peter Short has had to retire with immediate effect: Peter Short

In his time, he contributed heaps to Tigers and Bath, but it never seemed like his body could withstand the bruising and bashing that he put it thru Chief

Must have been difficult being injured so early in his move to a new club.

Just looked through your squad list at Ex there Asbo.

51 players?

That's huge!

Aye, but a fair few of those will be on development contracts and another big handful out on loan to the Cornish Pirates, Plymouth Albion, Launceston All-Blacks, etc. - its the nature of an attritional league like the AP too, I suspect Chief

Sorry to hear that about Short. He joined Bath from France, mainly as a no.6 and was a great ball carrier with a monster tackle, but he then went into the second row, originally as cover but ended up staying there and provided much needed power to the scrum. He should never have left Bath, but as ever with new management coming in, he ended up moving on.

He was like Beattie who a few years back briefly came close to grasping an England debut but injuries and the vagaries of selection meant he missed out.

I think it's pretty normal for AP teams to have a first team squad over roughly 30 odd (varies depending on required international/injury cover) and then various additional players (10 or so) who are making the transition from academy to first team status and will be farmed out on loan or given mainly A league game time.
