Just had a butcher's at the Remedy web site. Another dose of sticker shock for golf in England . . . . . . .
Is it that good?
Did Jacobs design it??

Yeah that would be cool Puligny, seeing quite a lot of D4S at the moment, he came on the East Lothian Birthday trip a couple of weeks ago, my surprise party last weekend and I'll see him at RND and Saunton this weekend.
I had a go at Hayling with him back in November, nice course and I'd certainly like another pop at it. Heard a lot of good things about Remedy too. Obviously I'd make the return offer as well if you fancied a pop at either of mine (they're not blessed with great drainage do they'll be a bit longer to recover from this winter).

Kwini - being a member I'm biased. But yes it is! JJ did design. I think the chap who owns the land had some clear ideas, but it has JJ imprint all over it, and I believe he is very proud of the result.
JAS - I'll let you have date via pm. We did talk about midweek to avoid diary congestion we all have weekends? Hayling is a peach - been beaten hollow by it many times!!!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Went back to Stoneleigh deer park today mainly because it was the only course open within reach and we were all dying to get out for a game.
13 points after 6 holes but dumped a couple of balls in the river incredibly picked up some cash but the ball travelling nowhere,no run,5 layers of clothes not ideal.Have to say these guys really do know how to run a golf club, great service, friendly, remembered us,let us tee off a bit early, none of it brain surgery/rocket science but very refreshing to see.Happy easter

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Played reasonably ok today, although short game could do with tightening up a lot and too many shots taken on first 6 holes again.
Scored 35 points, 37 putts but driving continues to be a high point with 8 of 14 fairways hit.
Hopefully snow stays away now and can get a proper run at improving

Good stuff. I had a walk along the old railway line recently and thought the course was looking well.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Annual good friday work golf club outing to the most uninspiring & overrated course in East Lothian aka Gullane 2. Out at 8am, bizarre weather, caught in a blizzard on the 2nd & 3rd which made the greens whites and it was baltic; then walking down the 4th it was glorious sunshine! Strange round as well, parred the first 6 holes when could have birdied 3 or 4 of them, then birdied 7 by holing from over the back of the green. A couple of rubbish 3-putts at 12 & 16 as well as an ugly double at 14 left me 3 over but a birdie at the last from 8 feet cheered me up a bit and I finished with 73. Not bad considering I hadn't played in about 3 weeks due to the recent snow up here!
Supposed to be playing at my home course tomorrow in the annual Captain v Vice Captain match, weather permitting though as it's snowed at some point every day for about the last 2 weeks!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
I was blooming fuming yesterday. Our club website said the course was open despite a bit of snow hanging about so up we went for 9 holes.Handed over £800 in annual subs and decided on the back 9.Fairway was generally Ok few patches of the white stuff got to the green 75% covered and the flag left smack in the middle of the snow !!! Two more holes similar although most of the course was clear.Apparently 2 holes on the front were the same.so 5 greens. We have 4 greenkeepers who must have spent the last week doing next to nothing -in fact painting inside the clubhouse. To clear the patches of snow would have taken 2 guys 4 hours maximium. And they wonder why people move on to other clubs.Im staying this year as my pal is captain but makes you think.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Well it's been a very long time since I've been out on a golf course. But today a friend was having a retirement golf day and invited me and a few others to his club. He treated us to tea/coffee and bacon roll on arrival, a free round of golf and a drink to finish. The course we played was Mentmore just outside Leighton Buzzard. It has two courses and we played the Rothschild course. Very flat but in great condition considering the weather we have had. Preferred lies were in operation, but in truth, they were not necessary. No casual water present. I will utilise two excuses why I didn't have a brilliant game and only scored 25 points. (a) it's been a long time since I've played - have I mentioned that? I couldn't get the pace of the greens. (b) the weather. Bitterly cold wind. Snowed a blizzard at one point. I know I don't hit the ball that far, but to have to take a driver on a long par three into a gale was a bit embarrassing.
However we had a good time and the old stories came out, embellished with age so everyone was happy.

Hi INW sounds as if the golfing juices were flowing never a bad thing.
masters next week always for me the start of the golf season and the summer -hopefully.I cannot remember when I had no daffs out in the garden at this time and we have a cherry tree with no sign of life everything at least 3/4 weeks behind this year

Dyna - it may be for the best the Greenstaff didn't move the snow. They shifted it to the side of our greens over the winter and now we have orange circles round all the fringes - snow burn.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Eventful round today
Finally managed to start well from the first hole ( well second) having taken 33 shots after 7 holes. 44 shots after 8 holes some what put a damper to the charge.
Started spraying the ball over the place, but the short game kept coming to the rescue to limit the damage and a good score was once again on the cards until my back went picking the ball out the hole on the 14th.
Continued to play as playing partner was classing it as forfeit if I walked off even though i was 14 shots in front. So despite not being able move properly let alone swing kept playing managing to keep it going only dropping 3 shots to him and ending with 37 points.
Highlight of the round being only 31 putts
Hoping the back isn't serious though as only renewed my Season pass this morning before teeing off.

Fair enough re moving the snow but at least move the pin.Its grass for goodness sake few weeks you would never tell.We had the captains drive in and comp yesterday but playing off mats not tees apparently our new club manager made the decision on wednesday I have feeling he may last about 6 months falling out all over the place.decent day sun came out well organised I dropped 8 shots so reasonable but its a short course of the mats.Played with one of the greenkeepers who mentioned that we had been given an eyewatering sum of money for tree planting from the national forest ie.they give you the trees and then give you cash as well.Gardens are a good 3/4 weeks behind down here

A score.
I scrobbled my way to a score yesterday. 39 points (+2 off 5). Missed birdie up 1, bogeyed 2 and doubled 3. Here we go again... But no. Ship steadied with some pars then birdie up stoke index 1 7th. Cabbaged drive up 9 but stunning 4 iron to 12 ft for a regulation par. Birdie up 12th (si 2) for another 4 pointer. Birdie 15 followed by idiotic double up par 3 16th. Short sided myself with a bunker to chip over, tried to be too cute - plop. Final up and down from a big drive through the back of 18 for another birdie. CSS -2 for only a point 1 reduction. But nonetheless a (small) step in the right direction.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Have played a couple of times this week which makes a pleasant change with recent weather...
Weds was a medal, however, non qualifier due to a few temps thanks to the frost early doors and was pretty windy. Shot +7 off 10 which pretty happy with, although course clearly playing shorter due to temps - but v happy with playing last 6 in -1. Ball striking quite solid, few wayward drives but overall quire encouraging.
Yesterday just went out on my own and certainly a bit up and down - dropped 11 shots so there or thereabouts to handicap. Driving still quite sketchy at times but irons pretty solid and three putted 3 times on back nine.
1st qualifier next Sunday with top 15 entering a summer knockout along with last year's winner. Think that about 2 under should qualify based on previous years but dependent on weather conditions I guess...

Re: Tell us about your game today...
First club match last night and very enjoyable too nice to meet up with our guys and a few old mates from the opposition.
Birdied the first and then parred all the way to 15 when we were sitting 3 up.They had to give a shot on 15 and made a super tap in birdie. So dormie 3 ,lost 16 to another birdie 17 to a par(im gettting real tired now)so up 18 and a classic bit of matchplay.I was short of the green in 2 one of the oppo OB so down to the two partners and my man was first to play just stuck a lovely high 5 wood into the middle of the green.Pressure on and the other guy pushed into greenside bunker 2 to get out and that was that.Felt as if the season had finally started thank goodness

Re: Tell us about your game today...
First medal of the year on a beautiful spring afternoon (shirt sleeves ). Greens have just been tined – delay of about a month due to the weather so shouldn’t be surprised to have 3 putted 5 times, but that really makes me seethe, especially when looking at 3 12 footers for the bird. Still played ok and shot my handicap, so not all bad – driving much improved allowing mid to shortish irons to almost all greens. Tried to think my way round for a change – using 3 wood on a couple of shorter holes. 3 off the tee on the 18th after losing the ball right (which I almost never do) but scrambled to get a 5. All in all, what could have been…

First society day of the year for me today at Thorndon Park always said to be probably the best course in Essex. Really enjoyed it despite some heavy rain showers and shot 77 (off the yellows) for 35 points. Not quite good enough to get in the frame but saved my best drive of the day for the 18th to win the longest drive.

Have a shot of it. If you like it, it's in good condition and a good price (<£50)then why not. It'll be around 4-5 years old. Personally if I was buying a 2nd hand titleist I'd be looking at a 910, which is the 2011 model.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
I have the 909 D2 and they are good but would say that I have just upgraded (or simply updated depending on your opinion) to a 913 (D3) and the difference in feel is off the chart. Ball off face is cleaner and sharper, the adjustability has helped tone down the "miss" dispersion.
I've not hit the 910 version often but would agree with Barra to have a look if you're in the second hand market. The adjustability alone would make it worth considering over the 909 (and should get some decent deals as the equipment junkies will upgrade and look to offload the old).

First b team league last night and a good win.Good start when I chipped in for birdie on the first lost the second to a par but got to four up by pars all the way to the seventh.pretty steady after that until closing on the 15th.there were some good matches one of our games winning the last four holes with 3 birdies and a par to nick a half and the last game pretty much in the dark our captin put a wedge into to a few inches again to pinch a half. All of a sudden the ground is bone dry conditions completely different. These matches very pleasant meet some interesting people one the our opposition has a business making all the rollers and belts for the internals of cash machines.Wonder how he thought of that?

First round of our pure matchplay comp today. Get to leave work early and hope the weather stays as nice as it is now.
Up against a 9 handicapper, he's just down from 10 on Sunday having only gone up to 10 on Saturday - so a bit of a bonus. Only giving 4 away.

Congrats S_R.
Well, got to play my first competitive round of the year on Saturday in a Medal. Bit of a mixed bag and going up 0.1 as a result. Would have been OK except for the bogey-double-bogey run down our 11th -13th.
Good bits: Driving - yay! Really feel I've cracked this but next few rounds will tell. Still the odd pull-hook when my subconcious gets in the way of a decent swing but the signs are good.
Bad bits: Putting - unusually based on recent form.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
We had our first decent weekend in a while so it seemed like everybody and their grandmother dusted off their clubs and headed to bethpage. Got a tee time pretty quickly but as we came off the first green we saw that we were the 4 th group on the second tee. Third hole is a par 3 so we all met up again there ! I think some people must have either walked off or hopped onto one of the other courses as it improved a bit after that. Despite all the waiting, had a fun afternoon and scored pretty well. Looking forward to a charity scramble event on cape cod next weekend !

Super - Congratulations!
Nice weekend for Golf here in Philadelphia; got out twice (once with my son, always a treat).
My club has a no tee time policy. But, for the upcoming US Open, where entertaining will be at an all time high (we're about 8 miles from Merion), the are requiring tee times for that week. And every tee time was booked in less than 1 hour!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Matchplay on Friday was a disaster! +8 through 9 (off 5) fortunately opponent was drivel too and was only 2 up through the medium of 2 (of the 4) shot holes he had over me. Back nine a bit better, but unfortunately co-incided with his improvement too. +4 back and lost 1 down missing relatively easy putts on 14/17/18 that would have seen me through. Easily a 3/4 club wind increasing to a 5 clubber by the end.
Negatives, first drive halfway up a tree, didn't get much better. Putts not getting there, missing left, missing right and horrendous figure of 8 stroke. Duffed chip OOB on 15 to lose the hole that cost me the match. Blowing a ginger, freezing.
Positives, world class 4 iron into a tight pin on an into the winder to set up the only dog. One of my best shots ever, must be top ten. Stayed dry, opponent was good company. Beer tasted lovely in the aftermath.
Set me up for a medal round on the Saturday with some trepidation. Ended up +3 gross for a -2 and a point 2 reduction. GIR very good, but never seemed to be close enough to allow me to convert - 34 putts!

I love scrambles ! Played in a charity event at captains course on cape cod today. As a high handicapper who struggles to break 100 most weekends, it was so exciting to be part of a team that was putting for birdie on a regular basis. We finished at 3 under and tied for seventh, and my shots were used more often than I had expected. Then I won 4 prizes in the raffle. Can't beat that for a day out !

Re: Tell us about your game today...
A somewhat disappointing round yesterday for me, while not disastrous.
Scored 34 (94 shots) points and made the buffer zone for no cut. ( online golf handicap tracker)
The problem being I have always been a truly atrocious iron player but have been practising to improve and finally midweek something clicked and it continued into yesterday's round with 8 Greens in regulation and number of approaches just off the green.
Not a great stat alone but to put this into context in the last 14 rounds I had only managed 11 greens in regulation. Sadly a number of double chips and 42 putts resulting in over 50 short game shots cost me greatly.
So looks like a trip to the putting green midweek for me

Not a great stat alone but to put this into context in the last 14 rounds I had only managed 11 greens in regulation. Sadly a number of double chips and 42 putts resulting in over 50 short game shots cost me greatly.
So looks like a trip to the putting green midweek for me

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Good job super -and it wasn't at TOC you probably wouldn't have owned up to that one.I would just like to discuss the round I didn't play on Saturday.Presidents putter haven't missed it in 20 years but my own fault forgot to enter before the 7 day time for the draw.Draw sheet went up with 4 two balls all the rest threes so four spots available.Would they let me play NO only 80 entries overall cos of the holiday weekend absolutely daft.I am sat at home could have been enjoying/spending/contributing.Did the front 9 early yesterday glorious morning the other two playing a medaLOne our first captain from 22 years ago and the other fella a mate who is a professional magician(off 8).The past captain must have been 20 over for the nine, I made 5 bogies 4 pars the magician double the first then 2 birdies for 3 over.He called me later back nine 4 birdies -that's magic !

Plunky just looking at your post re Bethpage -do they not have some sort of booking system it sounds as though you all pitch up and hope to get a slot?
We too love the scrambles and have a few in the winter for captains charity usually off the winter mats so the scoring is ridiculously low 14 under if I recall. We do give any ladies in a group an extra shot though cos of the forward tees so a team of 4 ladies can get 10 shots.Tried a drawn event this year but we find teams like to stick together team ethic .

Re: Tell us about your game today...
B league last night away and a 4-2 win but myself/partner got well beaten.Having to give 4 shots away on a longish track was too much.they put a couple of guys in with higher than usual handicaps and they made good use.the 19 handicapper chipped in on the third when the ball was heading off the green ,birdied the seventh and made bogey on a long par four ninth winning the hole with his shot.We got back at them with a run of pars but a par on the index one fourteenth giving away a shot only halved the hole and they finished us of with birdies on 15 and 16.17 and 18 are two long par 5s where we felt we would have likely won the holes being a bit longer but didn't the chance loosing 3 and 2. Good game good company

You can book ahead, but most people like us (twilight or nine holes) just walk up. We rarely wait long to get out, but play can be pretty slow as they send out a foursome every 8 minutes and there are no marshals apart from on the black. First hour of the day on every course is reserved for walkups, which is why people sleep in their cars in the parking lot. We're thinking of trying the black this year, maybe July 4th which is typically pretty quiet, but I know I'm going to find it very tough as there's very little break off the front tees.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Back in the day we did the old car park after a night out but thankfylly no need now.We go with a tee every 9 minutes and our first par 3 is the 5th which helps.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
May medal in a tough wind on Saturday CSS at +1 (usually -2 so far this year). Brand new Cleveland 588 CB irons, first time out in competition. (I had had a quick knock round a few holes a couple of days before with a few of them). Hung on for a 75 net 70 (level par) and a surprise 0.1 cut.
Missed 4 putts under 8 foot for par on the way out and then missed 4 putts under 8 foot for birdie from the 15th onwards.
Oh, nearly forgot (not really!). Got my second ever hole in one too (incidentally with my first ever hit of the new 7 iron). Another "proper" golf shot too which was nice
Due to a relatively empty clubhouse upon arrival, I got away with a £45 bar bill. However, this was offset by a £20 match win and £17 in the 2 sweep (yes, the 1 counts apparently). Bargain.

Roller - congrats on joining the multiple hole-in-one club. Nice it was a "proper" shot too!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Well, after the anticipated disaster on Saturday, played the midweek medal today. Much improved, but the computer was down so I'll have to wait to see how I've done. I won't go up again, but I doubt I'll get cut either.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Beaten on the last yesterday in league game.Bit scrappy all round but 16 yr old off 11 made 2 birdies which was the difference. All manner of ups and downs but they won the first with a birdie and we never got back in front.Typical matchplay where you make different decisions to playing your own ball in a singles game especially when trying to win holes.Good example on 10 when I found a bunker trying to make 4 and playing first .As it happened a 5 would have won the hole .Came down to longish putts on the last and a half to lose 1 down.Matchplay is a different game.Greens still not good not enough warm weather I suspect

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Back to back, fully fledged, crease up giggling tops including: Driver off the tee followed by the a follow up classic with a rescue.
No idea what happened to cause them, they weren't repeated and due to it happening on Stroke 1 I managed to scrape a point.
Jumped on the bogey train on the back nine and scraped 33 points with no blobs.
Still, it was sunny and the greens are starting to show signs of smoothing out at last.
