Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
Wests Tigers run home (currently on 22 points):
Souths (N), Parra (H), Saints (N), Bulldogs (N), Roosters (A) & Storm (H)
*(N = Neutral... either ANZ or Allianz)
So they should pick up at least 6 points, possibly 8. They can possibly get into the Top 8 on only 28 points but I think they will need at least 30 or 32 points (to be really safe).... depending on other team's results.

They are the form side at the minute Billy. They're a great team to watch when in full swing.
Melbourne have slipped to 2nd place. I heard Cameron Smith blame it on the Rep games, Slater injury, etc.

Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
Another loss to Melbourne against St George-Illawarra (26-18) on Friday night - that's 5 in a row now.
Titans thrashed the Chooks. (36-16)
Bulldogs too good for the Cowboys (32-18)
Penrith beat a depleted Sharks (21-20) in ET.
Manly back from the brink with a (24-22) thriller in Perth.
I'll update the table after Sunday's games.

Linebreaker
Toovey must be beside himself, Manlys first half was a mixture of bad luck and bad play, and for the second forty good luck and good play.
From what I saw of the Whatmough tackle, I cant help but get an inkling that Jimmy Maloney milked that, it will be interesting to se if he gets cited.
And isnt Cherry evans in form? Wow.

Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
Amazing form from Cherry Evans. Even as a Manly fan (born there & all) I did feel sorry for the Warriors. Second week in a row they had a big winning lead and then got beaten.
Souths and Newcastle looking good. Melbourne now 3rd, Souths 2nd.
I was at their training ground (old Redfern Oval today) and it was a very nice atmosphere. Things have come a long way. They ripped down the old wooden stands a while back and now it's a public park with a ''snooker table" oval... very trendy and boutique look about it with the new clubhouse, cafe under the new grandstand... interesting mix of locals and visitors. (that area used to be a bit rough)
I'll upload some photos of it in about 1/2 hour.

Some photos from my walk this morning of the park surrounding the Oval, new grandstand (nice cafe underneath), Clubhouse (includes a woolworths shopping centre), training field for the Rabbitohs, a few logos and an interesting plaque with a story about Victor Trumper and the "Redfern All Blacks".
No wonder the 3rd Burgess brother is also thinking of joining the scene. It has a good vibe about the place.

LB
I have never been to Redfern oval, thanks for the little tour, I did like the way they didnt fix the window for 60 years.
On the league though, very few new coaches achieve much success in the NRL in their early years, especially while the masters like Bennett, Sheens, etc are about, but isnt it a coincidence that the two young coaches really stamping their mark on the game, both happen to have spent a lot of time as players under Fulton.

That's a great story about the window isn't it.
True about the coaches. Look at Newcastle - they looked hopeless about a month ago (until they played Manly) now you can see Wayne's work coming to the fore. They seem so confident and ruthless in both defence and attack. Dessy and Tooves doing very well/OK too.

Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
Have a strong feeling it's going to be a ding-dong battle for the final spots in the 8.
The Titans will have their hands full playing the Bunnies and will be desperate to hold off the Knights, Tigers, Dragons, Warriors... even the Raiders... who still have a very outside chance to make the finals but they'll need to win all of theirs and a few of them by big margins.
I think it will be a race between Newcastle, Tigers and Warriors though.
Some pundits are already saying the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs fans can start buying up tickets for the GF in late September but they are probably the same 'experts' who predicted 15 Gold medals for Oz in the Olympics.
Stay tuned folks... the next 5 weeks should be fun to watch!

Ricky Stuart has stepped down as NSW Origin coach.
Brad Fittler's name has been mentioned a few times... so maybe he is in the front running to take over?

An interesting stat just seen on the Sunday footy show:
Since Origin, Canterbury went from 7th place to 1st and Souths from 6th to 2nd (or 3rd depending on the outcome of todays game).
Melbourne, Cronulla, Brisbane, Manly and Cowboys have all dropped down the table since the S.O.O series.

Cronulla demolish the Warriors 45-4... I didn't expect such a scoreline blowout.
Always like watching the Warriors in the finals but they have been well below their potential of late.

Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
You wont b seeing them in the finals this year.
I can not remember ever seeing Cronulla play a better game than what they put out on Mt Smart today, sure the Warriors were average, but all credit to Paul gallon, Jeremy Smith,Todd carney and a brilliant display of a traditional centre setting up his outsides and insides in Colin Best.

That's the plan.
Although Hayne is out for the rest of the season but the Eels have started to believe in themselves more... Tigers on a slippery slope (hopefully)

I do think one of the top 4... although it would be great for the masses in Sydney to see a Canterbury v Souths GF. Would be a great game.
Last time they met in a GF was in 1967. Don't want Melbourne to win obviously.

Amazing Monday night game... so fast paced.
Wests Tigers made a good comeback after the Eels shot out to a 22-18 HT lead which they maintained up until the early part of the 2nd half. Some spectacular tries with Marika Koroibete getting 4 of them for the West Tigers.
One of the most physical matches too with some massive hits form both teams.

The Rabbits will bounce back, GH. It was a brutal performance from Manly and for once Souths looked a little shell-shocked. They're too good a side these days and they should still be able to finish high up on the table.
Melbourne had that little extra over the Titans who have managed to put on some decent performances of late.
Parramatta has just beaten the Roosters 36-22.
Miserable, cold, windy and wet in Sydney as the Tigers take on the Dragons at Allianz (SFS).
Cowboys and Warriors should be a good one up in Townsville tonight too.

That was a brilliant display of draw and pass football by the Cowboys to run 50 points over the Warrriors, That team doesnt have to resort to 50/50 kicks to maybe score a try.

Re: 2012 NRL Premiership: Results and Table
I read the other day that Krisnan Inu has not played a losing game of League since being "let go" by the warriors. I must also say I watched the first ten minutes of the Broncos tonight and it looked like they were going to murder the Dogs, Dessy was looking anxious.

That's 11 wins in a row now. Not much from the Broncos after the early good start. A few teams will be putting pressure on them to stay in the 8.

I still believe it's not a fait accompli despite them being 4 points clear.
History has shown anything can happen... and the Premiers do not necessarily always win. Look at last year. Everybody said "shut the gate... nobody can beat the Storm!" and look what happened!
I still say that any of Melbourne, Souths, Manly... even the Tigers on their day (if they have a remarkable run in) can also win it.
However, I can't see the Cowboys, Sharks or Broncos winning the GF. I could be wrong though.

Monday night game:
Newcastle 26 - Cronulla 4.
The Knights are now banging on the door to the Top 8. They are playing with great confidence and they would be a handful for any team if they can make the play-offs judging from tonight's performance.

The Sharks appear to lost a bit of momentum now. They will need to improve otherwise they could lose their place in the top 8.Linebreaker wrote:Monday night game:

Yeah, they seem to be struggling apart from that recent Warriors match. I just think teams like Newcastle and maybe Canberra are starting to click into gear now.
Tigers should feel safe but maybe the Sharks will struggle.
Sharks have to play Rabbitohs, Storm Cowboys
Tigers have to play Bulldogs, Roosters, Storm
Raiders have to play Roosters, Bulldogs, Warriors
Knights have to play Sea Eagles, Cowboys, Rabbitohs
