Greatest Keeper of the Premier League
20 Seasons - The Keeper
Thought I'd break down each section of the Premier League's Fantasy Team of the Past 20 Seasons and start with best ever Keeper.
Please vote for one keeper from the following list.
Also is there in your opinion a keeper that should have been on the list but was emitted?
Petr Cech
Brad Friedel
Shay Given
Joe Hart
David James
Pepe Reina
Peter Schmeichel
Mark Schwarzer
David Seaman
Edwin Van Der Sar

Re: 20 Seasons - The Keeper
There is only one winner for me, and that is Schmeichel. Friedel comes in second for longevity of top-class performance, but Schmeichel is still the best keeper I've seen and the one I think of instantly when asked of the greats of the PL.

Has to be Schmeichel. Cech pre injury looked like surpassing him if he stayed with Chelsea for the long haul but he hasn't been as good since.

Schmeichel definately - as has been said if Cech had kept to the high levels he once showed then he would have surpassed him - and if Hart continues to improve then he could surpass Peter.
Notable mentions to Seaman and Van Der Sar though

Some fantastic keepers on that list but it has to be Big Pete Schmeichs for me. Shockingly dull but the perfect keeper, had absolutely everything you could want from a goalie. Seamen and Cech narrow runners up.

Went for Schmeichel. There really isn't anyone else that gets close to him.
Honourable mentions to Jussi Jaaskelainen, Nigel Martyn, Carlo Cudicni and Neil Sullivan.

Re: 20 Seasons - The Keeper
I could never get Cudicni - he was probably the best keeper in the league for 2 seasons and playing amazingly, then Chelsea sign Cech and instead of moving to another big club Cudicni was happy to sit on the bench and rot until his late 30's and then he finally moved to Spurs where he also sat on the bench.
Seems a waste of a great talent to me (though I bet he made a fair bit of money)

Couldn't agree more. He was a class act, and still is in my eyes. No idea why he is happy to sit on a bench, well apart from the wages obviously!!

Schmeichel greatest goalkeeper of all time...If the overrated Joe Hart is on that list please add Krul De Gea Szczesny and Vorm on the list.

De Gea hasn't done anything yet - although I fully expect him to prove himself to be a great keeper in a few seasons. The same with Szczesny to be honest as they are both young, have had a few wobbles (which is to be expected) but have both claimed the No1 shirt and are looking very good and you can see they are only going to improve from their current high levels - but I think it's a lot too soon to compare them to the greats who have been there and done it.
Same applies to Hart, however he's claimed not only the Man C jersey but also the England and has shown up very well on the international stage as well as the Prem stage and outsted a superb keeper in Given - which I think (just) gives him the right to be on the list now - though I wouldn't expect him to get many votes
