Redpath leaves Glaws

Very disappointing news. Recent performances have been poor, but Brush has been building a good ethos behind the scenes. The cynic in me suggests this stepping down could be due to a return north, but Brush is an honest guy and I would have thought he'd have said if that was the reason.

HKC, that's very sad news. I thought that Basil did a fine job of clearing up the mess left by Ryan - slightly surprised at the timing, why not simply wait for 2 more games? Glasgow must be kicking themselves that they've appointed the buffoon Townsend when someone of Redpath's calibre is now on the market

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
As we're playing Sale this Saturday there is certainly murmuring that he had a vested interest! Or it could just be the politicians approach of releasing bad news on a good news day - we sign Cowan, we lose Brush!
We have been poor in recent weeks, but it as you know 3 of the 4 losses have been last minute affairs!
Who are we going to bring in? We need someone that will create a style of play to make the most of our backs, but we do need someone to add a bit more fight to our forwards. Rob Baxter?

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
Odd time for Glaws to decide to replace their coach. I'd have thought that Richards would have been swooped for if there were uncertainties about Redpath's future in Cherry and White.
Not sure who they will go for, Tins to step into coaching? Mallet is available as is Ashton? Meehan got a new job yet, ditto Geech? Get in front of Bath and bring in the Catt/Booth partnership?

I think reading between the lines, Brush has to be going to Sale, otherwise surely he'd wait until the end of the season. Therefore, going for the likes of Richards wasn't an option. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Phil Vickery get involved in some capacity.

All these suggestions are really getting me down! If anybody suggests Martin Haag they're in trouble!
I'm all for Vickery as DoR, with Mapletoft as backs coach, Andy Deacon forwards coach and Trevor Woodman as scrum coach

SIM and Haag could be a good bet for Glaws.
I wonder if Bath and Glaws are going to start a bidding war for Mallett?

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
Brian's melodrama about poor results, and falling on his sword etc looks like so much hooey. This move apperars to have been brewing a while:
The 'Hootsman' reported this ( IAIN MORRISON)
Published on Sunday 15 April 2012 00:00
FORMER Scotland scrum-half Bryan Redpath will be announced as the new coach of Sale Sharks, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Currently head coach at Gloucester, the 40-year-old led the West Country giants to third place in the Aviva Premiership last season, when the club also won their first silverware for over a decade by lifting the LV Cup. He has been at Kingsholm since 2005, when he ended his playing career after a spell at Sale. The Borderer has been the Cherry and Whites’ head coach since 2009.
Redpath is close to the Sharks’ Scottish owner Brian Kennedy, who until recently was involved in a bid to rescue Rangers. Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond has been acting head coach since Kennedy sacked Tony Hanks a few weeks ago.
Redpath worked with forwards coach Carl Hogg at Gloucester but he is not thought likely to join Redpath in Manchester.
The timing of Redpath’s move will raise eyebrows as Gloucester have recruited well for next season, capturing giant England No.8 Ben Morgan, as well as the hugely promising centre Billy Twelvetrees who they snatched from under Leicester’s nose. Redpath will, however, have Scotland forward Richie Gray, who moves from Glasgow at the end of the season.

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
First silverware in over a decade?! Maybe Brish's agent has been a bit too liberal there, as he's forgetting 2006, 2003 and 2002 cup wins!
The morning after the night before and my shock has turned to disappointment erring on the side of bitterness. I am willing to give Brush the benefit of the doubt, however, as is widely expected he does join Sale then I shall be extremely disappointed by his behaviour. If he has left us to join Sale then that is completely his choice. He played for them for a number of years and they are building a decent side, so I can fully understand why they would be of interest to him. BUT, for someone that prides himself on honest behaviour, which he demands from him team too, then this is a woeul action. He should have simply come out and said I want to join Sale. He would certainly have gone with mine and many supporters' wishes. He has seen us through a period of financial consolidation and built a more workman like ethos missing from the club in recent years.
I sincerely hope my abiding memory of Brush will be positive, however, I strongly fear his credibility will be shot within a few days!

HKC, yes, this does tarnish him a bit. Not saying he'a a bad guy, sometimes events overtake any of us. I think the opportunity arose... let's say unexpectedly... so now he has a timing dilemma, especially ahead of Sale visiting Kingsholm this very Saturday, last home game, HC 'qualifyer' etc,. So to avoid embarrassment and conflict of interest he decided to hastily resign. Bit ugly, not ideal. He could have been more honest and said he had an unmissable opportunity, conflict of interest, and given this as the honest reason.
Still he leaves us in the lurch for last 2 games though. I met Hogg in Costa Gloucester, seems a decent guy, and we have great signings for next season.

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
Perhaps:
->He decided to join Sale, but planned to leave at the end of the season.
->The bosses at the club pointed out that there is a match with Sale offing, with whom Glaws are competing for the last HC spot.
->It was decided there is a conflict of interest.
->He left early, accepting he would take the flak.
Perhaps Glaws will join Bath in talking to Gary Gold?

Re: Redpath leaves Glaws
The club had been very clear that no approach had been made for Brush. As he had 2 years remaining on his contract any approach had to be via the club first. This is all seems very coincidental.
LT I completely agree that if he has decided to join Sale he needed to go now to avoid any claims of vested interest, but he just needed to be honest with his intentions.
If anything though I feel this will galvanise the team for the rest of the season. The players and especially the fans are really going to be up for the visit of Sale.
Gregor, I agree that events can overtake us and it doesn't make Brush a bad perso. I still have a huge amount of respect for him. He was an outstanding player and is a good coach, but as he has built his management on honesty this does mean his credibility has been hit. For his ownsake I hope this does not tarnish him. For Glaws its onwards and upwards! I've heard a number of names already been linked - Eddie O'Sullivan, John Kirwan and Mark Mapletoft all seem to be mentioned from several sections. I quite like the idea of Mapletoft returning, but let's not do a Sale - he's contracted to Quins and he simply may not be available.

Ooh, what would a combined Glaws/Bath team look like if say they were forced to merge into a Region next season?
If we had no injuries how about:
Wood, Webber, Wilson
Attwood, Hamilton
Fearns, Morgan, Louw
Cowan, Burns
JSD, 36, Trinder, Sharples
Morgan

He has. Don't think he's setting the world alight down there but Balshaw seems to be getting a fair amount of game time and seems a fixture at fullback.

Morgan is a better all rounder. Abendanon has limited tactical kicking ability and despite a willingness in defence isn't a great tackler. Morgan offers better kicking and tackling as well as being excellent under the high ball and no slouch in attack.

I'm in no doubt May will turn out to be the best of our young tyros coming through, but purely at the moment if everyone was fit I'm not sure he'd be in the starting XV. I do feel long term he will be a FB and it is good to have cover and competition for Morgan. One more season then he'll be a starter.

Well yes it could be as really Sale should have made an approach to speak to him through Gloucester. Not have him resign and then snap him up on the free thereby doing Gloucester out of potential compensation as he had another two years on his contract.

Anyone that thinks Bendy can't tackle hasn't watched him play for the last 2 seasons. It's a common misconception. It used to be an issue, but not anymore, neither is the high ball, but yeah he kicking is probably his weakest asset. Morgan is always injured, Bendy is so consistent. One of the top metres made and defenders beaten year in year out.

There's no doubt Bendy has improved his tackling, but he's gone from flakey to average, he still misses too many. There is no doubt his attacking ability is excellent, but his all round game is not of the standard of Morgan. Genuinely without a word of bias, there is not a better FB in the NH under the high ball than Morgan - which is why he is often injured!
