I'm celebrating by not drinking and going to work! How is everyone else celebrating?

Do people celebrate St Georges Day.
I genuinely never heard about it being a day of celerbration/bank holiday etc.

Sadly, it's never really been a big deal. Obviously, I can only give my view and can't account for other's. It's never been wildly celebrated. I was in Wales for 4 years and the celebration of St David's day far exceeded anything here.

Re: Happy St George's Day!!!
English are very understated on most things 'patriotic' including the patron saint's day. Almost embarrassed by excessively nationalistic expression. There is much less flag waving here than other parts of GB & I. The flag gets some negative exposure in the hands of nutters & wendyball embarassments. So many 'normal' Englishmen do not want to be too closely associated. Last time I felt proud about the flag was that 2003 bus ride around London with Jonno & the Webb Ellis. The Celts are far more relaxed / joyful with their saints days. Paddies' day in London is more fun than St G's and we can all join in. I have an England rugby shirt, but I don't actually own a St G flag. Wonder what the respective 'per capita' flag wavng stats are for GB & I ? Who would win ?

Its the day that just doesnt mean anything to us.. However i am very patriotic and i have put the odd car flag on my car during a world cup or something..
We are just an evolved species tis all. What the heck does a day mean to us. we are very patriotic when it comes to poppies day mind- we all get them on.. That means something to us.
Paddies day is probally celebrated by plastics around the world way more than irish lol.

When I was in the scouts there used to be a St George's day parade and we matched through the local town. That was in the early 90s.

I'd agree, I mean hardly any member of the English public got involved in the Royal Wedding last year, it was a quiet little wedding
The Saint George's flag isn't used as much as the Union flag (which is plastered everywhere and on everything), it's a shame that they both got kind of hi-jacked by the nutters, but that doesn't really seem to be the case any more, or am I wrong?
I know Saint Patrick's day in Ireland is just an excuse for a session and to bring in the tourists, much the same as The Royal Wedding last year and the Jubilee will be this year. It's all about money, and people buy into it, so fair play to them
Anyway here's a to the English.

I think the fact that St George is the patron saint of a load of countries makes it a bit pointless. Still, an historical figure that has become synonymous with England and we should probably celebrate it! Can't be arsed though.

GretGael - you owe me a Guinness then , I'll buy you a Doombar.
The Royal stuff is all about GB, Commonwealth & Hollywood global; these are not especially 'English' events as such. If I had 2 invites one to StG day and one one to St P day 'party' I'd be sorely tempted to go with St P, the craic would probably be better. We have Morris Dance, you have Riverdance - no contest eh ?

My eldest was born in Plymouth so he's gets the 'traitor' and 'turncoat' grief on St Davids day.

A couple of years back I remember seeing someone locally walking about with an Australian rugby shirt - I am sure it was pure coincidence that it was on the day that Australia were playing England

Not sure what a Doombar is but I'll happily accept it
Btw I don't know if you want to see tons of drunken Irish people on St Patrick's day falling down the road drunk, at half 3 in the morning, and convinced they can replicate riverdance.....it's not pretty, it always reminds me of people walking on hot coals!

I wouldnt know for sure - and there are a few Aussies in these parts - but I would highly doubt it.
