Shane Williams, a blight on the game?
So after 136 caps Shane Williams is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season and on the weekend the NH's greatest tryscoring WUM decided to bow out bringing the game in to disrepute for the 55th time in his Ospreys career.
Watch the clip below and i'm sure just like me you'll be disgusted by the flagrent show boating, over the top pre try celebrations and the disrespect shown in his finishing ash splash.

Good bye Shane, you've been an incredible advert for the game but your lack of respect scoring tries is the WORST THING RUGBY HAS EVER SEEN.

Is he Andy Williams' son? Bit of a bland cabaret voice. perhaps that's where he got the try celebrations.

Re: Shane Williams, a blight on the game?
I know that this post may have been to wind people up but to a certain extent I do kinda cringe watching these type of celebrations, especially his last try for Wales against Australia. I know it was an emotionally fuelled night for him and all involved with Welsh rugby, but I couldn't help say to myself "what are you doing? Your team has lost the game, why are you celebrating like that?". Before I get it in the neck, I know he's a legend and that it was his last appearance and he's deserves a great send off, but I just thought it funny.
I remember Johnny O'Connor doing a ridiculous celebration for his first try for Ireland as well, and the opposition did not like it one bit.

How many 'last' games is Shane having? He's like the drunk at a party who just won't go home. Martyn Williams is at the same party.

It was pretty disrespectful to the Dragons. The game was over, they were well beaten and Williams basically rubbed it in with his show boating.

It may not be the classiest thing to do, but then again he has been a great servant of the game for Wales.
I can understand why it displeases some that he does that, but give the guy a break, it is the end of his career and why not celebrate a bt in a ridiculous manner.
Any other time I would agree, but not at the end of his career.

Yeah it's his choice, just don't know why you'd do something like that when you're just about to lose, even if it was his last game. To me it seems a little empty considering the outcome of the game.
I'd hate to see BOD go out for Ireland like that, but on the other hand I'd love to see POC do it

It would probably be safer for O'Connoll to jump over the posts than to do an acrobatic movement like that, he might just pull something.

Quite suprised at this coming from any England supporter, as their players overcelebrate every single try at every level, (International, U20, U18, 7's, Premiership...)

Ah, let him celebrate. Good career ending, and going out in great fashion with a try at home.
What makes me cringe is seeing him do that flip and then noticing that strange oval patch on the back of his and all the Ospreys' shorts. Makes it look like they pooped in their pants. That is cringe-worthy.

That's the prime advertising spot as most Ospreys fans only go to look at the players' arses.

I can't wait for Shane's Final final... final game! The other three have been amazing so far.
"And now, the end is near,
And I can't think,
Of how to end it.
I can't... go on and on,
But yet I love
All these endings.
To think I could string it out,
And may I say,
Not in a shy way
And yes,
I showboat so very well,
And I'll end it my Way....................... eventually

Don't you thing it was done with tongue in cheek? A bit like the defence running up to it? To make it worse, he then snatches the ball and takes the conversion.
Technique was excellent, note the way he tucks his head to the side to avoid concussion.

Billy, I actually think 99% of the copping stick is tongue-in-cheek, continuing a flippant tradition of underplaying a great player and actually, and ironically, largely affectionate. "Okay Shane, so you were a fantastic little player, but don't rub it in, son - not on what should be a noble and modest farewell tour" I think that's the gist of the stick comments.
For me, the humour is in him having a hatfull of 'final' games - and he could even have one or two more 'final' games for the Ospreys before the season ends. And they are trapped in the old Catch 22 and have to regard each one that comes along as his final game because they can never be sure. Premature celebrations are always fun.

Dont you see? All these final games are marketing ploys to get the crowds in. He's really going to retire just after the next world cup.... Or is he....?

Hint- as soon as someone finishes their post with an absolute statement about something completely subjective all IN CAPS LOCK they are either insane or taking the wee. Yappy hasn't ever seemed to be insane ergo this was never going to be a serious post, rather a homage to the similar anti-Ashton etc posts

Re: Shane Williams, a blight on the game?
Meh, for once I doubt the result against Oz was what mattered most to Shane in those dying seconds. He and his country wanted him to go out with a bang and he did execute one of his sidesteps of old to finish off. Everyone in the stadium knew that it was more about him and his career overall than who won. The fact that his family took the ground afterwards and the Aussies gave him an honorary shirt pretty much says it all.

You can't use capitals with a hashtag though.
Toulon? I heard it was Northampton. They are in need of a winger who can actually score tries consistently, as opposed to a one trick pony who they have let go to a rival that plays boring, one-dimensional rugby; (I guess Ashton wouldn't really seem out of place there then).

I bloody hope not. University education has gone massively downhill in the few years since I left if they're teaching basic spelling and grammer (unless it's some sort of EAFL thing)

If you want to be a "Grammar (and spelling) Nazi" the key mistake there was actually from who as opposed to from whom. But in fairness this is a rugby forum not a syntax forum

Funny how grammar is apparently so important to language when you're an adult and yet babies learn their language mostly from "GoogiGoogiGoo!" and listening to their parents having a chat about the "F***ker wot did drove right out in front'im'mee basterdin' jeep just as I was givin' it lip to the c***behind me who blew her fookin' horn at me for fookin' goin' too fookin' slow up the one-way street in the wrong sh**tin' direction!"

If it was a female dog she was perfectly right to call her a bitch............................even if she was an auld hoor!
No! Not an insult thrown at the family dog! Actually part of a very funny line from a play called Da.

Isn't it due to the baby learning the sounds that make up a language. They need to learn them before learning how the communicate. Can't remember what they're call but's they're the reason some oriental people can't tell the difference between 'l' and 'r'. They sound exactly the same to them because they didn't learn the difference as infants.

They sound exactly the same to them because they didn't learn the difference as infants.
Baby apparently have an incredible sensitivity to the subtle differences between different consonant (and vowel, but more consonant) sounds- you can minutely change a sound and studies have shown that the child will react as if it is listening to something entirely new. However, as the children are exposed to more of the same sounds, the ability to distinguish between others is lost and the ability to distinguish between those it hears more often increases, and this means that the consonant sounds not present in its native language, as they are not heard , are lost and so Oriental native children and adults struggle to distinguish the l and r sound (they physically sound identical) and English-speaking people cannot distinguish certain Eastern European consonants. The study I read is here- http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-7687.2005.00403.x/pdf though you may not be able to read it, I'm not sure what the privacy on it is. Language (and frankly just communication) is fascinating on so many levels
