Can analytics cut injuries?
Stumbled upon the following and thought it makes for an interesting read;

Personally i think this is a great idea, anything to help teams understand what causes player injuries and to tailor training to their needs.
IBM and the Leicester Tigers rugby football club in the United Kingdom are teaming up to use analytics software to cut down on injuries.
The Leicester Tigers, a frequent champion in the English rugby union, is using IBM’s predictive analytics software to assess injury risks and then deliver training programs for players at risk. The Tigers are hoping analytics can keep players on the field longer.
IBM’s software is designed to measure fatigue levels and game intensity. The Tigers will also crunch physical and biological data from its 45 players.
In addition, the Tigers plan to measure psychological factors such as stress levels, social issues and environmental stress.
Add it up and IBM and the Tigers are trying to put more science in the game. IBM’s software will also be used to gauge the performance for its under-19 academy feeder teams and choose players accordingly.

Very interesting. I think we'll have to wait and see if it works though.

Re: Can analytics cut injuries?
Given the universities in Leicestershire and Tigers well known affiliations with all three it doesn't suprise me that something like this has come about. Part of the redevelopment of the Crumbie stand involved a new medical facility going in and the relationship between Tigers, Leicester Medical School (part of Leicester Uni) and the hospital (literally across the road) has been on going for some time.
Let's hope it works, the less injuries in the game the better.

Re: Can analytics cut injuries?
The RFU did a review of a particular type of injury (hamstring I think) and recurence. They found that if a player had a recovery period of a particular time they're recurence rate was lower. So they recommended that all players with this injury were laid off for X many weeks and the number of recurences dropped off.
I think that was the jist, I came across it wen looking for studies on the effectiveness of paddling for preventing injuries (other than superficial ones)
