i just found it interesting how ' Big ' movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ,Gone with the Wind , The Ten Commandments and The Sound of Music must have been at the time of release . I think i take it for granted that the Blockbuster movie is a modern thing but clearly not .

saw this a while, a bit supprised when I did, however prediction is we could see The Avengers and Batman The Dark Knight Rises make the current list. I only say The Avengers as alot of people have reviewed it as awesome so could drag a wider audience in.

Either way it shows that monetary success does not a quality picture make.

Re: Highest Grossing films of all -time
most the films on there are because of 3D Sales.
i think there are only two films this year that can challenge that list
1.TDKR
2.The Avengers - If it can draw in a larger audience

The Hobbit should do well but i not sure it will break into the top ten .
Its all about marketing rather then a good film now .

Re: Highest Grossing films of all -time
Gone with the Wind was huge at the time, especially the publicity over the search for the actress to play Scarlett. Gable was probably the biggest draw in Hollywood as well, and I remember reading that the novel was a blockbuster, though I could be mistaken.
Also, it has benefitted from a few re-releases. The only time I ever saw it was at a cinema back in the mid-80s - it certainly has an epic feel to it, much more than if you watch it on TV, I suspect.
