What Freaks You Out?
Im sure im not alone having a few fears.
I hate airplanes. I just dont like the feeling of taking off. The instant the wheels leave the runway my stomach starts to turn and i feel ill.
But up in the sky im ok, looking out the window and pointing at stuff out the window. Wierd.
Wasps!
Dont get me started on these horrible insects.
Bees i can cope with because i know these will only sting you as a last resort and tend to ignore you.
But wasps? They hover about and will sting you for the fun of it because you happen to be standing still!

Clowns!!! I don't know what it is, I've always been scared of them.
This has also led to the mistrust of dolls, puppets and mannequins. creepy bar stewards. eughh!

Injections. Really does freak me out to have them, I've been that bad I had a fit in fear once.
Re: What Freaks You Out?

Really tall things. I've no idea why but I get freaked out when standing at the bottom of a tall tree or statue.
Heights worry me a bit, mainly because I have a thought in my head that it would be really easy to jump when I look down!

Re: What Freaks You Out?
A friend took this photo the other day from her back yard.
Amazing claws...the bush turkey is not small either and has a decent set of feet too! Freaks me out to think that this particular bird can simply grab another large bird!
Now I know why they are called "Powerful Owls"

Thunderstorms. It's a shame cause I find them fascinating, but the worse they are, the more nervous I am.
People who've had way too much cosmetic surgery - they just look weirdly stretched and distorted.
Maggots.
Fruit that looks like it's going mouldy or badly bruised.
Prettyboykev - I find false teeth very amusing. I don't know why. When I was a child, I used to ask my nan to take her false teeth out and say "sausages" cause it made me laugh.

The last few years I've been paranoid about bread going mouldy so quickly. I'm sure it used to last 5-6 days but sometimes it's grown a beard after only 2-3 days. I don't like keeping it in the fridge/freezer.

Linebreaker - do you keep your bread in the fridge? That can keep it fresher.

No Cari, it seems to lose it's sponginess. I do get nice loaves which last longer in my cupboard...but it's the cheap sliced stuff which I'm talking about. I'll try the fridge again though.

Re: What Freaks You Out?
Glad someone else mentioned cotton wool - used to give me the heeby-jeebies watching someone pull it apart. Fortunately I overcame this in my teenage years (it's hard to use clearasil without).
I'm lucky that not much really freaks me out - I have walking through cobwebs, but that's more because it's an unpleasant shock than that it really freaks me out. My wife on the other hand:
Flying
Needles
Doctors
Dentists
Spiders
Blood
In fact, just about the only one of the common phobias she doesn't suffer with is heights.

Re: What Freaks You Out?
dummy_half,
I don't mind soft cobwebs...
Last summer I went down to the basement carpark...which is open towards a cliff-face housing all sorts of creepy crawlies.
When I went to my car door I thought someone had put up some fishing wire between the wall and my side vision mirror, the spider web was so strong it didn't break off at first... I had to push myself through it. It sort of rebounded me backwards a bit - if you can imagine.
I can only imagine the size of the spider (we get plenty of huntmans which are about the size of your hand)...and if you leave your car window open they love to get inside - usually behind the windscreen blinds. I've had one or two bolt out from there when I'm driving at speed. Freaks me out. They are usually more scared of me but it's horrible when they disappear inside the car and you can't drive again until you find them.

Re: What Freaks You Out?
BIG spiders
Normal ones I can deal with.
Hornets
Regular wasps make me slightly nervous, but I WILL run and scream like a girl if I see one of those.
Moths & Insects
An odd one, but I really hate they way they flitter around like their arses are on fire...particularly if they keep doing it near me.
The Internet
I have seen things no person should have to witness, thanks to people playing very twisted pranks on me online.

The sight of rough seas with howling wind and whitecaps.
Walking through fish markets in some Asian cities - can't bear to look too closely and the smells make me feel quite ill.

Wish it was as mild as that - though I have been Rickrolled a few times. The horrors of the internet can run MUCH deeper.

Yeah no gristle but a little charred fat... yummo!
I've seen too much road kill lately which is fairly depressing to encounter. Birds, cats, possums and now a black tailed (swamp) wallaby yesterday.

Re: What Freaks You Out?
I once sliced my achilles on a beer glass I left beside the couch. You should have seen the amount of blood. The tendon was yellow! After the band-aids kept coming off I decided to got to the doctor... and he put a few stitches in.
I still get the occasional twangy feeling when it's cold!
