Ambitious people? You don't half talk some rubbish. Utd earn their money through performance on the pitch, which leads to a higher profile off it. This gives us the money that we spend. We don't get our money from rich oil/gas barons, or are subsidised by banks/the government, which is reportedly the case in Spain

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Yeah Man united run a profit , it does have debt. However people cofuse debt with losses(reverse of profit).
Debt to equity ratios are important, but as long as no one ever calls in the debt then that debt is immaterial- like in the case of barca and real. Man u have allways got to recapitalise there debts and the interest costs are high which offcourse has an impact on what the club can spend. Roman has lent chelsea most of there debt , so there get free lending as well. But he has his own issues. A massive spainish bank can get away with lending money after lending money in the long term and never asking for it back(because in spain they look at football in a way of national importance- the country would rather see there own banks fold rather than there top clubs). Roman is an individual and he wont be there for ever. If he wanted to take his money back he could cripple chelsea- so they do have to look at the long term approach of reduceing there debt- part of there profits each year must start paying back the lenders- even if that lender is the owner(there are still seperate entities in the eyes of the law)
The problem is is that spain under this system doesnt need to run a profit as the club is effectively subsidised by its tax payers(and at present all the european tax payers) and they havent needed to bring spending down in line with other businesses due to the global recession. For the prem/bundes/seria a to still be competitive in its capitalist systems its getting harder and harder. But they are still doing it.
People say that football lost when barca went out the tourny- i disagree- football won, even if chelsea arnt the perfect example of a club that is self sufficent at least the money and funding comes solely from its owner.

Roman wouldn't leave Chelsea until they're self sufficient, and even then he'd write most, if not all of it off.

I think your right , however things change, anything could realistically happen.
This is the risk all business's face when they are heavily geared with debt as opposed to capital

Roman genuinely loves the club, even if he decides not to sink money into it, he isn't going to leave it in a position where its basically ****ed

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Graeme i genuinly believe that and also the fact is even if he did go and take what he is owed the club would get a new owner in the same vein- Its chelsea and it has the most prestigious location name of possibly any club in the world- it really is the monopoly boards mayfair of football clubs.
However i was only pointing out the possibility and pitfalls of clubs with massive debt. The debt issues that surround football will affect clubs in the long term unless it is dealt with.
I am not one for having minimum wages or capping spending- My solotion to the problem would be to cap debt to equity ratios at clubs(say 30% debt max). If rich owners want to spend more they are very welcome but they would have to add capital to there club rather than in long term loans.

The thing with Barca and Real being run by banks... Spain is getting closer to going in the same direction as Greece. Wouldn't it be tragic(!) if Real and Barca were to go bust?

Re: Big Premier League Signings
ok to start with
barca and real are legally owned by fans-
fans or anyone that pays this 140 euros a year to be a barca owner
Basically its like owning one share- but they pay this each year so not really. there have 155000 of these owners or members!
the thing is is that govt owned banks lend them money whenever they want and dont make them pay these loans back. Look at united they had to recapitalise theere loans the other year- what that means is that they had to pay back the original loan and get a new loan to cover that one. Barca and real are never told to oe are forced to pay bacvk there loans.
If the spanish banks that do these practises get regulated by germany!!/europe or these banks get bought out by other countries banks they could in effect force barca and real to pay back the loans- this would be the same as say roman dieing and the person in the will that now owns chelsea asking for the loans back!
If barca or real didnt keep getting these interest free loans and almost free money- as they never are pressured to pay back any loan , to keep running at the same level they would need to find additional capital. There would have to double if not triple the yearly membership/owner fee. Or go down a more traditional ownership system as other clubs do

Big snag in Kagawa coming to Utd.
He will be very unlikely to get a work permit as currently he doesn't have the necessary caps under the set period.

Liverpool manager was thinking about bringing Joe Allen, Scott Sinclair, Ashley Williams and Gylfi Sigurdsson to Anfield but is unable to buy SWansea players for a year now.

Sigurdsson could still come as he hasn't signed for Swansea.
I'd be a bit suspicious of the '12 month' rule as the same thing was said about Roy Hodgson and Fulham, but we signed Paul Konchesky.

I know the Swansea chairman said about Liverpool not being able to sign Swansea players for a year. But Liverpool haven't confirmed that. So I don't know if it is true or not!

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Very clever by Swansea. Never like to see a manager take all his players with him when he leaves one club to another. I still hope Sigurdsson signs for Swansea still. I know Rodgers was the main reason why he came in the first place but I hope he enjoyed his time playing for the Swans enough to sign still.

That's a ridiculous rule. How many games does he have to play? He has 30 caps.

Re: Big Premier League Signings
It's due to the world cup two years ago at which he didn't attend from what I've read, it seems to be the case that they will no longer be counted around mid July so as long as Utd confirm the deal then it should be okay, the worry obviously is though that both clubs and player keep to a pre agreement prior to that and other clubs don't tempt him in the meantime.

Norwich could very easily swing this back on Holt though by accepting this bid.
This gives Norwich a lot more leverage.

Just for the record, we have not received a £4m bid for Grant from West Ham as apparently is being suggested.

Well I think Villa may need to act fast and match the West Ham bid. I still think Holt is going to Villa, he will be the big man up front to compliment Bent when he returns from injury, that would be a decent partnership.

Same, get a bidding way going. If your going lose your star striker at least push the price to as high as possible to be able to spend on a replacement.

Pace, can beat his man, found a finish towards the end of the season.
Never did anything before this season though. Billy never fancied him. Only came good the last third of this season. Can't begrudge him his move, but we'll see whether hes a 1 year wonder.
