I like scholes in the tackle- but these days its not the way to tackle- hed get sent of more than not in international cups, i think he has almost stopped trying at man united- he is one strong lad, but the game has changed.

Was it not tongue in cheek? Because Scholes is renowned for his poor tackling ability...?

Didn't they sign Ryan Nelsen and Andy Johnson the other day? I bet the other teams are quaking.

They're essentially making the same mistakes they made last year in terms of signings, by just signing the rejects of other teams. Cisse was probably their only decent signing and even he got sent off twice.

Apparently he's close to signing a contract with Stoke.
I expected him to go to Everton, who were supposedly interested, just to further alienate himself from the Liverpool fans.

Never really though of that. Man Utd, possibly Everton and, for a laugh, AC Milan.
Really looking forward to seeing Podolski in the PL. Don't know why, maybe because he's a proper "big name" (IMO anyway).

I don't get this potential signing. His style completely doesn't suit Stoke's. They focus on direct football and set-plays. There is no single player in that Stoke other than Etherington that could possibly create or slide balls through for Owen. I can't see how Owen could possibly score 20+ goals for Stoke with the lack of chances and poor creativity they have, weren't they the lowest scorers last season. Hoping Owen will play more than 10 games is unlikely before his hamstring or groin blows up.

Can't see Modric leaving the UK personally. He'd never get a game at Madrid and PSG are another Anzhi. I don't think they'll be attracting the world's best players like City or Chelsea. Only money grabbers.

There isn't a single young player who hasn't been hyped up by their teams fans at one point.
Besides Adebayor isn't that great either.

True but at least Adebayor is a 20+ goal a season striker
Am not happy that Man U have completed Kagawa deal, he could be very good for them!

I wonder why Dortmund were so happy to sell him? Surely if you have any ambition you go for a player that a club is desperate to hold on for....

Wanted to play in England for a long time, also they only paye 500k for him so they've made a massive profit.

I'll take your word for it but I think there is more to it, some wool maybe pulled over our eyes in this shady deal.Graeme Swann's Cat wrote:Contracts up next year and he has a long standing ambition to play in England.

More ambition would have been signing Modric or Eriksen..

Surely you show ambition by signing players that you actually need and will improve your team, regardless of how much the other team is charging for them. Instead of just buying loads of expensive players just because they are flavour of the month at that time (like Veron, Shevkenko, Boateng...)

Re: Big Premier League Signings
You can't put Shevchenko in there, he was consistently top scorer in Ukraine and Italy for 7 or 8 seasons, Veron was actually signed by ManU before Chelsea, was a top player for his country. Flavour of the month should be players who only recently came good btw..

Apparently theres a clause in Drogba's contract that allows him to move to Barca on a free. Which he will invoke in the next few days.

I put Shev & Veron in there because they were bought for huge amounts of money as marque signings because they were doing very well for their respective clubs - they then flopped badly. I used these as an example that buying big doesn't always come off, and if you want to 'show ambition' you don't necessarily have to buy big (Viera, Van Der Sar, Henry ect).
Also flavour of the month means anyone whose very popular at that particular time, and has people talking about them. SO it could be Messy now, or Poborsky after Euro 96, or Walcott going into 2006 WC

taken from bbc website:
A spokeswoman for Didier Drogba's representatives tells BBC Sport it is "complete nonsense" that there is a clause in his Shanghai Shenhua contract allowing him to join Barcelona, as has been reported. "There are no clauses in Drogba's contract allowing him a release to another club - he's just contracted to Shanghai - and there is no planned meeting between the striker and Barcelona directors," she said.

Apparently so.
He had a clause in his contract which let him have 15% of the transfer fee, but Ajax wanted to get rid of the clause, Vertonghen disagreed and so is staying...
It doesn't really make sense to me.

Cheers Crimey. That's a shame, I think he'd settle well. Would put a small amount of money on him going to Arsenal/Chelsea to link up with either Vermaelen or the "Belgian National side" at Chelsea.

Why would Vertonghen join stingy Spurs? Soon as a top club would come in for him, Levy will hold him prisoner like Modric.
