Agree with that. Big signing but surely his best days are behind him. What's wrong with Ivanovic?

I agree, they really want to sign the player of three years ago.
It's also replacing Bosingwa, with a player very similar to Bosingwa. I think they should play Luiz at right back and have Ivanovic and Terry as the centre back partnership. Although I think they'd be better off dropping Terry altogether to be honest, but I know that won't happen.
If they do sign Maicon, presumably the £21 million signing of Luiz will struggle to get into the side.
Maicon---Cahill----Terry----Cole
With Ivanovic coming in, and then Luiz coming in behind him. He's back up to the back up. Madness.

I've said this many times, but I'll say it again. It's total rubbish. One of the main problem's about Ashley Young's performances at Euro 2012 was that he DIDN'T track back, which left Ashley Cole completely isolated. Most wingers should be able to track back and still attack, that's part of the job of their position, if they can't do that then they aren't that good of a winger. Most wingers, bar Ronaldo, tracked back at Euro 2012, Ashley Young didn't and it was a deficiency in his game.
Are you attacking my comment or agreeing? I don't think you understood this. Someone said they should sell evra and I said it was harsh for someone to say 'get rid' of evra because he had to deal with defending on his own because under fergie young doesnt track back. Young is not a defender and therefore Cole was isolated at the euro's as was evra for parts of last season and the reason why he got such criticism. This is not a young debate but an evra debate about replacing him but united cant because there arent any replacement around. Agree?

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Personally I think Jonny Evans done a better job at LB than Evra last season... with Vidic back, Ferdinand, Smalling and Jones there maybe United would be best off making him a permanent LB

I was just pointing out that your comment about Hodgson's tactics restricting Young are total rubbish.

No neither can I. I think it's complete and utter nonsense, but no smoke without fire. Perhaps Barca are wanting rid of Villa to raise money for RVP.

So if Van Persie wants trophies, just go to Celtic or Olympiakos I guess.

Weird. The season before last he made more appearances than any other player. Emergence of youth probably the reason he's left. Wouldn't be a bad option for anybody to pick up.

I think it's because of Thiago. They don't need Keita anymore. He'd be a decent cheap buy for a PL club though. *cough*

Would be a good signing. And if with Coates already there, Suarez may be more persuaded to stay if he has a lot of his country friends there.

£6.3m is that a joke?? They have been done there, wouldn't part with anything more than £2.5m for Djourou and that's being kind.

I know John, but you seem to think most Prem Leage players should be playing in League 1, as long as their not Newcaste players

haha £6.3m can't get over that! I think Obertan should be in the Blue Square and even then I think he'd struggle.

Re: Big Premier League Signings
IMO he's had some good games for Arsenal, but was never really able to build consistency after a few horrible injuries, as such he made some high profile mistakes and was overtaken by Koscielny and Mertasacker. If he goes then I think we more than ever need to bring in another defender (preferably one who can play on the flanks as well)

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Mertesacker and Djourou are as useful as each other.
Borini's a big signing (IMO at least). Interesting one; I saw him once for Roma and he looked decent. Updating table with Vertonghen now.

Re: Big Premier League Signings
Can't believe Borini is going to Liverpool, would like to know the reaction from the Kop on this one. Obviously wasn't good enough for Chelsea and has not set the world alight at Roma, otherwise why would they be selling. Used to work with Rodgers a few years back so he obviously believes in him but i'm not sure about this one. Fee?

Re: Big Premier League Signings
What's the fee? Do you think Liverpool fans think that will be the answer though to the finishing problems they endured last season. He's not got a prolific record and I can't see him getting ahead of Suarez or Carroll. I thought Liverpool would go for say a Darren Bent, proven premier league goalscorer but they obviously are not willing to spend big after what Dalglish did.
Holt did reproduce his goalscoring ability in the premier league but many others have failed.

9 goals in 21 games last season isn't awful for a young 21 year old. Can't say I'm disappointed with this signing.
