The importance of an undercard
With Floyd Mayweather stepping back into the ring this weekend and an obvious burst of energy given to the sport as a result, i ask, how important is the undercard in boxing generally. Me, I love a good PPV undercard. One reason is that we have paid extra for the package, not just a main event, but mostly it's just great viewing when you get 3 hours that include a top undercard.
The May v Cotto undercard is not great. We get to see Canelo, but Mosely is shot and although it is going to be interesting to see what Canelo has, it's not exactly a great fight. As for Vargas, I have seen nothing other than he is a fav of the Mayweather camp to suggest Varga v Forbes will be of much interest at all. What happened to deep undercards man? Is this another problem with the decline of the sport?
How important on nights like Saturday night to see a deep and exciting undercard.

I love big undercards but they are dying, lets hope they make a return, was good to see Rios and Marquez on the same bill.

It's all about the numbers isn't it. Don't get me wrong, I want a strong card, at the very least three good fights but then you're talking about splitting the ppv revenue and Floyd knows that people will buy it because of him and only him. Why share?

Yeah but he doesn't have to share muc with the likes of Vargas? Do you think Vargas is in any position to demand any of ppv revenue? Most people would love just to be on a ppv card to raide their profile. And others like Canelo will do it if their promoter guarentee them a good pay day, seperate to PPV revenue. Fighters arn't crazy, they're not going to go after Mayweathers money. That's mad money man, badger mad.

True enough they were seperate, still better than the one main fight.

How often is boxing PPV over there. I know Mayweather and Pacquiao are PPV, Cotto v Margarito was but were Cottos fights with Mayorga and Foreman PPV? The first Bhop-Dawson fight was PPV and it never sold.
