First topic message reminder :

I don't mind Paul Walsh at all, there are at least another 5 on the Sky Soccer Saturday that are way worse. Thompson is annoying , Nicolas just as bad, Merson is funny in an are you simple kind of way. George Best used to be worst of the lot.
I always found Graham Taylor's commentary annoying , that was his voice more than anything though.
In athletics Colin Jackson is very poor as is Denise Lewis.

I can't name anyone who is better, but that doesn't mean Gerrard is good o has been good internationally. Him and Lampard routinely go missing and flounder against teams they should easily beat, but that's England from back to front I suppose.

"name one other creative attacking midfielder who should be picked ahead of Gerrard ?"

Joe Cole has had quite a good season in france, I was a little shocked to see him ignored.

And of course Lampard is a much better player than "try 50 yard wonder pass even if the players isn't within 20 yards of anyone else so losses the ball" Gerrard. Really dont understand the worth of Gerrard as a player and tend to think Europes top clubs agree, hence a career stuck in liverpool.

Lots of reasons for that and not all of Gerrards making, hes hardly a left winger but like Scholes was routinely stuck out there. But agree that he could have played better but still an obvous first choice IMO.

Eh? My point is that it's highly unlikely Suarez is racist given his own genealogy. Suarez perhaps should have known the likely consequences of what he said but I hate the fact it's apparently OK to say the most vile things about a player's mother/sister/whatever and no action is taken. Mention someone's colour though and woe betide the one who makes the comment.

He'd just be played out of position again like before. We have an obsession with putting square pegs in round holes and then wondering why things don't work.

My point is how the heck is Evra supposed to know whether Suarez was being racist or not....because he doesnt know Suarez has a black grandfather. I honestly dont understand your logic, we should just ignore the fact that he made an insult based around race...because that is exactly what he did however you want to square it.......because other insults get let go ?

I guess insults about people’s mothers have not generally caused a whole lot of prejudice, societal divide or inequality?

It may be rude to insult someone’s mother but it is not going to shatter society.

I've always found it funny that is used as an insult and why people get so upset about it. I don't really remember many of us being staunch defenders of our mothers' virtue.

Mother, smother. Stop fixating on insults re. mothers. No-one is suggesting Suarez was saying anything to Evra such as "You're scheiss because you're black." so I'm not sure what the majority of fuss was about except for the OTT reactions everyone has to any mention of colour/race now.

Are the college you mention the same ones that do the Drive song "real hero"?

Mysti - are you into late 90's american rock?

By the way if anyone hasn't seen it you need to see drive. One of the few movies to leave you feeling like you may have taken some drugs.

ha ha no as roakey says its in life of brian, a bit ridiculous i know but that moment in the film really cracks me up and was in my head around the time i registered.

Musically at the moment i am trying to re-discover the Seattle rock bands from the 90's, I'v heard Alice in chains was prob the best but never heard any of their stuff so thinkin of pickin up an album or 2 of their's. Amazing how much quality came from that city in a short space of time.

Mysti's call on the Ramones is a good one. Have to say have found something I've been listening to recently is Beady Eye some of their stuff is pretty good.

Haven't seen Drive yet I keep meaning to watch it but based on the above recommendations it'll be on my screen tonight.

P.s. Am I the the only person that thinks Ron Bergundy/Anchorman is complete toilet. I really don't find Will Ferrell funny in anything I've seen him in, that now I simply won't watch anything that has him in.

Fader, I'm with you, I can't stand Will Ferrel. Utter garbage, mind you I'm not a fan of American 'comedy' in general.

Mac, for something totally unheard of give American Analog Set, Sianspheric or Explosions In The Sky a blast.

Maybe I'm turning into some sort of Victor Melrew type because I simply don't think there is a single comedy nowadays that compares to anything from years passed.

I'd be quite happy if both Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen fell off the face of the earth.

What I can't stand is the non stop panel shows full of stand ups who think they are much funnier than they are.

Really loved The Thick If It, some quality swearing. Apparently they are remaking Yes Minister, can't really see it working but will be interesting what take of politics and politicians they go for.

The wee field outside our house is a summer home to the farmers prize rams.
I saw him the other day and said it was about time he cut their fleeces.
He said, Naw waiting for the local Farmers show next week.

Just imagine being a sheep with about a foot depth of fleece when the weather has been between 24 to 27 degrees for the last week.

They are not happy!.

I know a lot of it is pretty obvious - PM snuggles up with media moguls etc - and not exactly ground braking information. But still, it can be interesting to hear it from those involved. You would have to have been seriously naive to not have noticed it all before the hacking scandal broke.

I am really just hoping that the daily mail is really dropped in it and has a new international/NOTW type melt down. It is rather annoying that most of the industry is not being exposed for using the same tricks as the NOTW.

I would certainly have liked to watch Blair give his evidence.

What so are we meant to ignore anything that isnt one of the biggest news stories in history ? The Leveson inquiry is huge, it will have a ground breaking influence on how the press operates in this country and how govt/police etc deal with the press.

It might not be mandatory but doesnt seem like anyone has deemed not to bother turning up. Its the findings of the report that will lead to changes, the fact that such a huge inquiry has taken place with visibility to the public is a big deal.
Do you think many journalists out there will be phone hacking anyone anytime soon ?

It is intersting to some people though, sad as that maybe, all the media are doing is feeding the desire of the public for salacious gossip.
I just found out last week that one of my housemates from uni has just been made editor of the Scottish Sun. Im sure its not a great read but I look forward to meeting up with him and having a few bevvies and finding out a bit about how it all works.
