Friday fun - Player trade.
First topic message reminder :
Simples, you must trade one of your top players for a top player of another country.
Don't come as a scottish supporter and say you want to trade Dan Parks for Dan carter as the deal won't go through. you want a top player, you have to swoop it with a top player from another country.
If someone puts up a trade, the others may shoot it down if they deem it not being a fair trade. You also have to say why you want to trade the player. Form doesn't matter much as that can be sorted, it is a class.
So if I say I will swop bismarck du Plessis, and he is rated arguable the best hooker in world rugby, I can then trade for an arguable best player in another or similar position.
So my trade will be Bismarck du Plessis for Dan Carter.
I want dan carter as we are in dire need of a playmaker, our back line will be twice as dangerous with dan Carter. Bismarck is great, but we have plenty of depth there.
Think about the pivotal positions, like 2, 8, 9, 10, 15.
Be smart about it.

I rate Corbs really highly, I think he's going to turn into a top International loose-head (not there yet though). However Marler is also a very good player and could really develop under Graham Rowntree, so I don't think the step down from Corbisiero to Marler would be that great.
I won't offer Cole because he's my favourite player (as a tight-head prop myself), but I will offer both Corbisiero and Doran-Jones for Pocock. And Matt Stevens (you can have him anyway!)
I'll also offer New Zealand Ben Youngs for Wayne Smith.
I see the logic in this , exchange THE premier fetcher in world rugby for a loose-head who's not YET a top international?

It was only my opening offer
I would say though that I think Corbisiero is nearly there, he just needs to show it on a consistent basis at the very top level.

They still wouldn't swap their best player. They would pick one of the backup opensides to swap.

I really don't think the Aussies would trade Pocock for anyone in world rugby at the moment. Since they don't really have a great 7 backup, they would have to be CRAZY.
Personally, I think Pocock is the best player in the World at the moment.

@robbo227, I think England would stand a better chance going for a lesser known international 7, or a second-string one. Tipuric is a good shout, even Barclay (since Rennie's taken over)....

They have some excellent up and coming opensides actually. They would still never trade Pocock.

none as good as Pocock; hence, why trade him?

Re: Friday fun - Player trade.
We don't need Toby Flood (frankly it'd be nice to get shot of him in an England shirt) as we have great prospects at 10 with Farrell, Burns and Ford coming through. We do need a good 12 though.
Welsh posters seem to rate him quite highly (one recently named him in their professional era England XV!) so would you swap Jamie Roberts, or if that's a bit cheeky perhaps James Hook? A big hitting, kick-first 10 like Farrell inside a silky playmaker like Hook could be a nice balance.
Alternatively Kiwis, I'd bite your hand off for your back-up 12, SBW.

Flood is the best 10 in England by a long shot, I'm glad you're not in charge!!

Hook for Flood...tempting
Would like to see Hook play 10 a few times before deciding though - he hasn't played there since his move to France, and he can usefully cover 12 and 15.

On current form he's the starting 12. Nonu's having a rubbish season (not helped by the Blues having a dire one admittedly)jeffwinger wrote:We don't need Toby Flood (frankly it'd be nice to get shot of him in an England shirt) as we have great prospects at 10 with Farrell, Burns and Ford coming through. Flood has been strong for Leicester in the AP but in his 5 caps, Owen Farrell has looked more assured in an England shirt than Flood ever has over the course of 40+ appearances. I've never been convinced by him, he fills me with little confidence, while Farrell has taken to the international game brilliantly.
Therefore my swap would be a second choice 10, while we have other young options coming through, for a top quality starting 12. Seems logical to me.

Yes clearly at the moment SBW is in far better form than Nonu, and even with both on top form I'd still say there's little between them. Do you think the AB selectors will/should make this move?

Totally disagree, me thinks you have a short memory. Flood was fantastic last year in the 6N and inspirational in wins against Aus etc.
Farrell made his relatively easy shots at goal during the 6N but added nothing in attack. I'd gladly offload him for a semi decent 7 and keep Flood.

Re: Friday fun - Player trade.
Flood is so far our best FH. When people talk of Farrell's performance they tend to qualify it with 'for his age', 'for his limited experience at FH', etc. Head to head Flood is so much better. Compare what he allowed Ashton & Foden to do in the 6N 2011 to what Farrell couldn't do with the same players a year later. Flood gets some unfair criticism for the Ire and earlier SA games - games where every English player was outplayed by his opposing player, all over the park, every minute of the 80. Flood will be 1st choice FH for the Lions and yet some say he's not good enough for England - doh!

Re: Friday fun - Player trade.
I agree Barney, especially given his club form and this summer's opponents, Flood should walk back into the team with Farrell starting on the bench. Flood is a top class 10 that never seems to get the recognition he deserves - I wouldn't trade him for any 10 in World Rugby other than Dan Carter, (you may say Nick Evans, but if we also take into account that Flood is 5 years younger and should therefore have 5 years longer in an England shirt than Evans would, and Flood edges it).
Farrell is a decent young player and looked comfortable but limited in his 5 games for England. He needs to get more time at 10 for his club and look to develop his attacking game. Burns is a great attacker but is untested at International level. Ford is a great talent, but needs to bulk up and make an impact at club level before he can be considered for full International honours, but he is one the coaches should definitely keep an eye on. The only other real option is Hodgson, who has never shone at International level. If Flood were ever to be injured I'd have Hodgson in the squad as experienced cover, but I wouldn't have him as even a medium-term pick as first choice 10.

I'd drive Farrell to Scotland in exchange for Rennie.
No deal. We've only just got rid of Parks, we don't need another 10 to remove the leather from every rugby ball in Scotland with his boot!!

We've already got Warburton, don't need Barclay too, that's just greedy!
