Ward Vs Dawson - The battle to keep our eyes open?
Anyone excited about this potential match up? On the one hand you have two very talented elite boxers. Each can claim to be the man in his own division and this match up will test and pose questions of both. To me it looks like both of these are interested in creating a legacy and should be applauded for that.
On the other hand, although a good fight it will be a horrible clash of styles and won't be too easy on the eye. Also as talented as they both are neither have a high profile or exciting style and are dull as anything outside the ring. While boxing fans will appreciate its a good fight it won't bring either to a wider audience and the build up will be sleep inducing.
Also what weight do you think they should fight at? Chad has claimed he can make 168 while as far as I know Ward won his gold medal at light heavy and shouldn't be a problem for him to move up. I think there are less questions to be asked of Ward moving to 175 and hope that is where they fight. Or is a catch weight the fairest option? I also hope its not held in Oakland. Its about time Ward moved around a bit even if its just back to Atlantic City.
So does this one get your juices flowing? Who do you see taking it? Its rare that we get to see the best vs the best in general let alone two champions in different weight divisions squaring off yet I'm finding it hard to get overly excited about this one.

YEah I'd like to see this and have a feeling Dawson might just pull it off. He's strong and slick, Ward has only had to bully around 1D fighters so far and Dawson has much more given his head is straight and has fought the better comp.
Please no damn catchweights. It's only 7lbs for goodness sake! Fight at light heavy.

Dawson seems happy enough to come to 168lbs so any potential iChat will happen there.
I think ward wins this, in a fairly close scrappy UD in a fight thats hard to soccer rounds.
Both are technically very good but I think that ward will have the speed, workload and intelligence to pull off the win. Ward fights quite similar to Hopkins using a similar hit and hold style, but throws more, has faster hands and is more accurate albeit a lighter puncher.

Cant believe Dawson would go to 168lb for the fight. Its not like ward is Oscar de la Hoya or something in terms of financial incentive. Ward graduating to light heavyweight would make more sense in any event.
Ward to win quite comfortably if it were to go ahead.

Dawson made a huge mistake saying he would go down to 168. Why on earth he didnt say catchweight, I do not know. At 168 Ward would bully him IMO, open some cuts, which Dawson has been a little prone to of late, and prob UD him. At a catchweight it would be more interesting, but these styles are never going to gel that well. Dawson has all the attributes to be p4p in the sport. He really does. But his application is off. Ward points for me in a bit of a stinkfest.

It makes more sense to fight at 175, Ward only really has Bute at 168. If he took Dawson out and managed to beat the winner of Pascal v Cloud, that would be very impressive.
Dawson beat BHop, who is a similar fighter to Ward in the sense of tricks and traps. Dawson remedied this fairly well. However, I think that Ward has the exact physical tools to exercise his gameplan, something BHop is lacking nowadays. For me Ward edges a stinker. He's also one of those fighters who seems, like BHop pre-Taylor who you just looked at and knew they were going to find a way to win.

Ward at any weight. Plus it would be a bore-fest.

I have to say, I've been hugely impressed with Ward ever since he put himself at the forefront of the 168 lb division with that performance against Kessler. The head clashes took some of the gloss away, but it was still a wonderful showing, particularly considering the jump in class Kessler represented from Ward's opponents up to that point.
I genuinely do think that, as long as this niggling hand injury is something he can shrug off, that he's Mayweather's natural successor to the pound for pound crown, certainly in terms of pure skill set. A superb talent who, I feel, should be a 'great' of sorts before he hangs up the gloves.
Dawson's talents are very considerable, too - but I just consider them less than Ward's, in almost every department. Not by a huge margin, but by enough for Ward to win a competitive fight in points, be it at 168 lb or 175 lb (and I agree that the latter makes much more sense, particularly if Ward takes care of all Super-Middleweight business by beating the Froch-Bute winner).
Would be lucky to get a quarter of a million PPV buys, you'd think, but a fight I'd love to see in 2013. Sadly, I have a strange, niggling feeling that we won't get to see it, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to it. Ward is a skilful classy boxer and if Dawson turns up he will give him major problems. I like watching Ward he is the successor to Mayweather as P4P#1 whenever the Money man decides he can't be bothered with it any more.

Re: Ward Vs Dawson - The battle to keep our eyes open?
i would like to see them in the same room, in my head dawson seems much bigger and stronger, but thats probably just my perception.
if the size differnce turns out to be minimal id back wards slicker skills. however if ward cant control the clinch and bully around dawson then i'd back dawson. would prefer dawson to win, as i'd like ward to stick around and fight bute/froch winner.
i class myself as a serious boxing fan, but have to admit although i know this is a top quality match up, and an example to other boxers- i just cannot get excited by it at all. shame
