Tip Tackle - Page 2 Empty Tip Tackle

Post by anotherworldofpain Mon May 21, 2012 1:44 pm

First topic message reminder :

Well so now the world cup is over is the tip tackle gone back from the eye of referees?

On the weekend was made a tip tackle by Brumbies flank Hooper on Victor Vito. Sanction? Red card? Yellow card? No. It was just penalty.

Later after was Hooper become star of the game and make a win for Brumbies.

What if this character (who otherwise was maybe best player on the game) get selected to Wallabies then make the same tackle against Wales in the test? Will be more inconsistentcy and which kind?

Tip Tackle - Page 2 Empty Re: Tip Tackle

The combined penalties ejection concept only really works in games with flexible replacements that can come on at any time. It also penalises the players who do the most work.
Refs already have the option to card for repeated infringement of a specific type of course.

As for tip tackles the IRB are caught between a rock and a hrd place. Their own research told them they werent safe, so they tried to eradicate them. The refs are for the most part failing to apply the laws and directives properly, and when they do the public and pundits erupt in a ball of fury.
The number of tackles ( Ferris) that get over punished is far less than the number that go under punished (Davies) due to referees naturally resistant (for obvious reasons) to using red cards in anything but completely clear cut cases. Because the sanction is so rarely used people seem hopelessly agreived when it is, even though the laws and directives mandate it.
Bear in mind the purpose of such harsh sanctions is to eradicate dangerous tips from the game and force players to avoid using techniques that could result in them occurring, let alone deliberate ones.
The laws on tip tackles need to be clearer and better communicated to the public, especially with regard to the difference between a static lift and a driving tackle. Then consistency.
