Re: AVB
How many jobs has he actually been linked with? Jesus did you put 2+2 and end up with 5?

Re: AVB
I think that would be a good move by Liverpool. I would like to know however why he wasn't able to inspire (apparently) the old guard of Chelsea. It would be a similar job at Liverpool I guess - he needs to rebuild for the future.

Re: AVB
I genuinely think that Liverpool have a lot to work with, and despite a lot of negatives in this past season, there is a lot to be positive about.
We do have a relatively young squad, with Carragher already being phased out and we're becoming increasingly less dependent on Gerrard.
Shelvey, Henderson and Carroll are three young English players with a lot of potential, despite the latter two trying the best to show they didn't.
Football wise AVB doesn't have as huge as a rebuilding process to do at Liverpool as he did at Chelsea, I hope he is backed in the transfer market, and he can make a few shred signings as well. (Hoilett and Victor Moses spring to mind, then spend money on a striker.)

Wins me 30 quid if it happens.
Difference is at Liverpool the againg stars are either a. half retired (Carragher) or b. still good enough to be first team/injured (Gerrard)

Re: AVB
good decision..
however he clearly wasnt their first choice as Brendan Rogers and De Boer turned them down.

Apparently Liverpool had already held meetings with him prior to getting in touch with Ajax and Swansea.

Re: AVB
I'm not sure about De Boer, but Brendan Rogers only turned down talks with Liverpool. From what I've picked up AVB, Martinez and Rogers have all been offered talks, the first two accepted, Rogers rejected, I imagine De Boer was similar to Rogers.
I think they will have made their minds up after interviewing them to be honest.

Re: AVB
Great choice?
Well let's see if he is given more time here than he was at Chelsea and one of his predecessors was at Anfield.
Can't see that he's a clear favourite over Martinez though for what's it's worth.

Re: AVB
Failed at Chelsea because the club is ran by players. No respect for any manager who wants to try anything new.

Re: AVB
I think it would be a terrible appointment, even worse than appointing Martinez. He inherited a great Porto team and won a few trophys in a two team league and failed badly at Chelsea, I know the players at Chelsea didnt fancy him but that was because of his bizzare tactics and team selections. I would not touch him with a barge pole and I really hope its not him who gets the job.

Re: AVB
He also took Academic who were bottom of the league when he took over to midtable safety and the semi final of the cup.

Re: AVB
Porto had finished third the year before with just 68 points. He took Porto to their highest points total since 2002-3 and won the Europa League, not bad...

Isnt a big part of being a manager being able to get the players on your side, either by charm or scaring them or whatever. The fact that he failed to do so at Chelski is as much a reflection on him as anyone else.

Re: AVB
I think one of the main reasons he didnt do well at Chelsea is that he didnt have the respect of the players. When Mourinho was there he worked as a European Scout for them so to then come back in as manager with the majority of the big names still there would have been very difficult.
I think he will find it much easier at Liverpool

The 'great' Porto team he inherited finished 3rd in a 2 team league. They then went unbeaten in the league and dominated the Europa League. This season they were 9 points worse off without him. Yes he struggled at Chelsea, but he and RDM had 2 completely different jobs.
Now Capello would be a horrible appointment

He did inherit a great Porto team that had a poor season the season before he took over. The only two decent players he signed for them were Joao Mouthino and James Rodriguez the rest like Hulk, Falcao ect were already there he deserevs credit for having one good season at Acedemica and one good season at Porto but he has never bulit a team and I dont think he has what it takes to succeed in a decent league at a big club with pressure, IMO.

Re: AVB
AVB, man management skills with thee older players was bad, telling Alex & Anelka 2 train with b team, coz they did'nt figure in his plans, playing a high defence with Terry in it also did'nt help, Liverpool job would b 2 hard 4 him, Liverpool need a complete new midfield.

Don't think he's that great to be honest, and his man management was awful at Chelsea.
Watch him fall out with several players (Gerrard perhaps)

Re: AVB
Apparently they plan to approach Redknapp.
Can't think of anything that would make Liverpool more enticing than Spurs but good luck!
