Kristian Phillips is the UK Under-13 100m record holder !!

Was doing some research into Tom Prydie and Kristian Phillips, 2 players that have started very early, taken some knocks and moved on from the Ospreys at a still crazy young age.

Both are lightning fast so I was looking at Tom Prydies sprint times and whilst impressive, he was never the best speinter in Wales in his age-groups, never mind the UK (2nd/3rd consistently in Wales Nationals over 100m)

Kristian Phillips however is the UK Under-13 100m record holder !!

I kid you not. Born on the 2nd of September 1990, on 3rd July 2003 at a league meeting in Cardiff Kristian ran 11.7 seconds for the 100 metres whilst 12 yrs old. To give you an idea, Mark Lewis-Francis's time at that age is 12.14.

I've also noted he is the Welsh U-11 200m record holder at 29.2 Seconds and also won age-groups for Shot-Putt at U-13 !!! Interesting article in the Sunday Times below about his unbelievable rugby talents at that age here, where a time of 11.65 is quoted as his record. He must have been a freak to play against at that age being the fastest and one of the strongest in the Country:

No, I'm incredibly impressed with some of the guys coming through at the Ospreys. These young guys look like a better unit than the previous 'star-studded' backline they're replacing. They have oodles of talent, pace and skill and a monster pack in front of them; I'm worried about them being in the third tier, a side I definitely want to avoid in the HC.

The new coach has just bought in team spirit, seems thats worth a hell of a lot. The recent thrashing of Munster was an amazing performance of power and clinical finishing.

Funny that Os are Tier 3 and Cardiff Bluesn tier 1 !!

But that's the difference between getting out of your group into the quarters and semi's. Something the O's have consistently failed to do.

Without wishing to belittle the achievements of any schoolchildren - I would suggest that the heading "DOUBTFUL TIMING" above Master Phillips' time indicates that this is NOT actually a national record???

Maybe his mother was timing him on the oven-clock, doing laps of the back garden?

Frankly i think the Scarlets signing Kristian was an error, they should be slobbering all over themselves to develop lee rees!

He is like a young shane williams. Dont get my wrong Kristian is decent enough, but Lee has much more going for him.

That sounds impressive - I heard somewhere that he was the fastest player in the Wales squad (when he was in it), but as someone else has said, you need to back that up with skills and an ability to tackle and offload.

But fingers crossed the Scarlets can develop the raw materials and get a very good wing/FB

Alyn - Lee is a good player and may well get chances, after all he has been involved a few times for the Scarlets in the LV=. That said i think he has to be the smallest fullback I have ever seen, what is he about 5"4?

Why do all YouTube compilation vids have some awful soundtrack rather than the proper commentary?

The real question here is not how fast Kristian Phillips is, but how slow your next generation is.

He kinda reminds of Mark Jones in the way he runs but a lot quicker. Mark Jones could tackle though and take contact

Again, not belittling his achievements then, but it's what he can do now and in the future.

We had Prydie at Wasps for half the season, having lost our VW strike wingers. It was a shame he didn't see much of the ball when he played as we wanted to see what he could do. Robinson being told to kick most of our possession away didn't help.
