England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
First topic message reminder :
England unchanged. Rampaul and Shillingford in for the Windies.
Windies win the toss and will bat. A great toss to win - runs galore today.

Ah ell, this isn't looking good for England. Anderson hasn't got the ball to move much, and his pace hasn't crossed the 130 kph mark as yet. He generally gets it to swing at over 132-135 KPH.

I was in favourite of Bresnan for this series , as the man in possession and a good record , but I was disappointed with his display on day one , and would agree he will come under pressure from Finn unless he does something in the second innings.
Which he well might.

Sammy in the nervous nineties. Not sure how nervous he'll be - seems a pretty laid back chap...
Not at all nervous it seems : big swing , over the gully and four !
...and another edge and up comes his hundred ! Nowhere near where he was aiming but what the heck

Hundred for Sammy!. Bit edgy in the 90s, but nevertheless a significant achievement considring his position in the side and the way it came.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Frustration continuing for England bowlers...
More runs coming behind the wicket than in front but that wicket continues to elude them.
Jimmy beats the edge again - that was just too good to hit even for a man on 113 ...
Mr Dar has a word with Jimmy. Wonder what he said ? Can't be too bad , plenty of smiles ...

Alfie,
A very frustrating start to the day for the England bowlers. I'm about to go out for an hour so that should get us a wicket.
Off topic but far more important - Human Windmill was indeed a remarkable man. I and I'm sure many others appreciated your post.

For me this is where Finn would be good. A bowler who could come in and bowl a really pacey 4-5 over spell at around 87-90 mph and shake up the batsmen. Bresnan just isn't giving them many problems at the moment

Yes Darren Sammy has played that one stupid shot of his and thrown it away, but this time he has done it after scoring a hundred.

Roach ahead of Rampaul and Shillingford? Surprising. May be they ae looking at his stickability factor, as Samuels is still out there in the middle. But Ravi was good enough to do that as well as playing a few shots of his own.

It was just that matter of getting a wicket for Tim B, now he disposes off Marlon Samuels!.

And Bresnan has two !
Samuels gone ... Jimmy will be glad to take the catch...guess he won't have to congratulate Marlon on that double century after all

Well, despite those couple of wickets, I have a feeling England will have to think of Finn for the next match. Of course bresnan could get the last 2 and finish with 5 and then come in at 8 and blast a hundred to make him undroppable!!.

Nearly another one - Swann really should have caught Roach there , Broad unlucky...and a nice drive for four rubs salt in it ...
England will want to nip these last two out now and keep it below 380...reckon this is a par 375-400

The Finn/Bresnan debate is an interesting one , and may run for a while...no clear answer as they bring different things to the table : Finn pace , bounce , a good strike rate - but Bresnan has been very effective for England with great control on some flat decks , plus a lot of very useful runs , and of course Mr 12 from 12 Lucky Charm!
Nice sort of selection problem to have

Rampaul is a decent bat for a number eleven...not sure why Roach and Shillingford are ahead of him ?

Swann time : and Works immediately , Prior with a neat stumping and 370 it is...
Good cricket , England will be glad to have taken the last four for sixty odd today, but West Indies have just about got a par score I reckon.
Now I think England's batsmen have to win this one. They will want to get 100 ahead to compensate for batting last , so they will need to be on their game.
This might be a very good Test Match

Cook gone ... And now he isn't !
Well that had to happen sooner or later with all the no balls Roach bowls ...
Was a great catch by Ramdin too.

Alfie, let him know I do acknoledge it indeed was good innings, but the thing is to do it consistently!. And I got it right that he would play a typical stupid shot to got out!. But pretty good for a political and not cricketing appointee to score a test hundred, that would lend a bit of credibility to his position and statements.alfie wrote:By the way , msp , Darren Sammy asks if you enjoyed his innings
Unlucky for West Indies, Cook played a bad shot of a good ball to nick behind, but it was a no ball from Kemar Roach.

So the England openers see them through the short session before lunch, of course with some luck coming there way. Roach looked sharp in that session, and Rampaul looked ok.
West Indies have put up the runs on the bord, England will have to bat very well here to turn the tables.

England will have to bat well, but if they can surpass the WIs they'll still feel they can knock them over cheaply in the 2nd.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Will be interesting whether Shillingford would get some turn here. Swanny did turn a few, if Shillingford manages the same, have to see how England would approach the challenge. Will they go after him and try to unsettle him? I thought the Australians showed a touch too much of respect the moment he turned a couple and that just played into his hands. Englnd, not the best of players against spin, should not make the same mistake.

Guildford , I reckon Bresnan had been reading all the comments on here about Finn and felt he needed to do something
He bowled much better today , got a bit of help from some loose shots it is true , but I think you could say it was canny bowling first to well set players and then to the tail...
Finn will still be exercising selectors' minds , but Bresnan's final figures are making him harder to drop.

Has the West Inies got a bowling coach? If so, time he's send packing!. Cook nicked behind of another Roach no ball, yet again, this has to be absolutely frustrating for the West Indies, particularly after the fight they showed with the bat.
Cook should get a ton here, he has been incredibly lucky in this innings.

Uh-oh that could be a big breakthrough for the Windies. Trott lbw for 35. Reviewed it but went with umpire's decision. Close but close enough. That man Rampaul again.
Now for the million dollar question...can Kevin Pietersen stick around and make a meaningful contribution. I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know why I bother with Sky really.
As soon as i watch england they are Poopie.
I watch them yesterday.. couldn't bowl for poop.
Out all day today so they bowl well and start batting well.. i come back and turn on.. Trott screws up straight away.
It's no wonder i am so negative.. i never see them anything but rubbish.

looks like eng are rapidly falling down the pecking order again. why can we never get to the top and stay there?

Big 6 from KP. Wonder if he'll give the Windies some T20 treatment today?
Strauss joining in, cutting loose with a couple of nicely timed 4s. Perhaps the KP Effect is rubbing off on him? 50 up for the skipper.
