England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
First topic message reminder :
England unchanged. Rampaul and Shillingford in for the Windies.
Windies win the toss and will bat. A great toss to win - runs galore today.

The battle of the SAMs is on. They are the windies batting pivot.

Fantastic bowling by the best Fast Bowling partnership in the World and there's still 23 overs left in the day although very unlikely we'll get those in. 5 or 6 down at stumps would suit England down to the ground!

These two are quickly wiping out England's paultry lead.
More wickets tonight or it's an impossible chase for eng.

The Samjam is totally in control.
His partner will be saying "Bravo" it's your game my friend, you cannot get out.
By he won't say bravo to himself.. He will say bravo to Bresnan.
But he reviews it and shows himself to be a bit silly It was plumb. He couldn't possibly have thought differently and his team should smack him with a wet kipper for that.

And now we have the Samjam and the ramjam together.
If we get the Sam together tonight, breaking them could break their teams belief.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
West Indies top order has been an absolute disaster throughout the series.
Some of them are plain mediocre to play at the highest level, and some others are not at the right stage of their development. I don't think Powell may have got a hundred in the warm up game, but he has been pretty poor in this series. In fact he hasn't done quite a lot in the given the opportunities so far. Barath has tallent, but he needs a few more solid seasons of FC cicket that is played at some decent standard. County cricket could be a good option. Kirk Edwards has been in dredful form. Bravo obviously has done well in patches and he's the only one who deserves more chances at the top level at the moment.
Bring Gayle, Brathwaite and Sarwan back. Brathwaite too have major problems, but at least he has the temprament to play a long. He needs more shots, but if someone like Chris G is at the other end, that shouldn't be a problem.

50-4 the West Indies. England would fancy at least another before the lead is gone.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Well, well, well...
As I predicted - although better than I dared hope for - England have ripped through the Windies' top order, including the dangerous Chanderpaul.
Looks like its up to Samuels, Ramdin and Sammy to set some kind of total for England to chase. With Windies reduced to 50-4 you have to say this has been England's day, the late clutch of wickets tipping the balance back in our favour.

This really seems like a breakthrough series for Marlon Samuels, Don't think he has had such consistency in 3 successive innings ever before.
And Swanny should be brought back, a first over wicket is just what England want at this moment!. Since Chanders is gone, Samuels has become the big wicket, and Swanny enjoys getting them.

Howzat!
Ramdin done by a beauty from Brezza, lbw for 6 and Windies are 61-5. Not much more batting to come before England are into the tail.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
The ram jam goes but the Sam man has England in a jam.
He can't be moved, his batting is too smooth.
There will be more pressure on the SAMs when they come together this time, will they produce more samba cricket?

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Jeez!
The under-the-weather Kirk Edwards nearly undone first ball.
BUT BRESNAN GETS HIS MAN 2nd BALL! WEST INDIES ARE 61-6!!!
Only Samuels and Sammy can save them now. Question is...will they? Can they pull off the same trick twice?

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Edwards has been hit hard and given out.
Appeal time? He goes.
He must be pig sick... Sicker.
This has been a great session. Windies wiped out our poor lead but we have done for many of them,
Now it all comes down to the golden boys, if one goes they are in trouble. They will look for another double hundred of fine Samuels batting and lots of Sammy luck.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Wow - what a day for England. A disappointing end to their 1st innings but their demolition of the West Indies 2nd innings batting has surely tipped the game in the hosts' favour.
Samuels and Sammy will have to pull off some mighty heroics to give England a challenging target to chase down, with a lead of just 3 and 6 wickets down.

Such is the beauty of test cricket. England were dominated all day then obliterate the WIs in about an hour to take the day.

The Windies will be looking to get at least a 150 run lead here but it will be very difficult.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Pretty much as expected then. The West Indies can play good cricket in patches but not for long enough to win. So it was in India, against Australia and now in England. The problem is, getting into winning (or at least winnable) positions and constantly losing is incredibly morale-sapping. It's all very well for Sammy and co to come out afterwards and talk about "positives, learning from our mistakes" etc. but it's pure BS and everyone involved knows it. The West Indies badly need a win. Doesn't look like they'll get it in this test.
I would still have Finn over Bresnan, but it's a good problem to have.

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
england's day. Should win it in the 2nd session tomorrow.
Independ of the context of the match, they have some concerns though. Yet another batting collapse, but the earlier contributions of the captain and Pietersen ensured they didn't suffer. To ask the bowlers to save the this regularly, not quite good. Prior hs to soon come the party, he seemed a bit careless both here and at the HQ, Bairstow has not got going as yet, and that number 6 position does remain a question, although the young man deserves a decent run in the side.
As usual, a pretty poorday at the end of it from the West Indies, their bowlers fought back hard in the morning, but all that got undone with some absolutely incompetent bating, and confronted with some fine bowling that was never going to save them.
I hope Darren Sammy won't be quite pleased about it all at the end of the day.

Thats it for today. Windies will hope to build a big lead with the master batsmen and eng will know that removing one will topple them.
Pressure more on windies in the morning I think.

I'd say having a lead of 3 while being 6 down and the last 2 players with any batting talent at the crease puts the pressure firmly on the Windies Trebs

I agree.
If these two can do it again they are miracle workers. But I suspect Sammy will not ride his luck as well this time.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. Not sure what our average is for batsman #6 since Freddie retired, bit I'd be surprised if it topped 25.....and Finn is worth more than that...
