England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
First topic message reminder :
England unchanged. Rampaul and Shillingford in for the Windies.
Windies win the toss and will bat. A great toss to win - runs galore today.

Runs are coming quick. They both look like its a struggle but lucking lots of fours and drops.

Evening alfie, all good down your way?
Great start by England here, could be a long day for the WI batsmen as Jimmy looks very much on form.

Finn would cause so many more problems than Bresnan does. I know Bresnan offers batting but if we can't score enough runs with the nine we would have plus Finn and Anderson we are in trouble

Powell deserved to go there. Good catch but he was riding his luck and the score flattered him a bit.

Dare one say Chanderpaul doesn't look quite so secure today ?
(Probably get 300 now )
Great spell from Jimmy...Bresnan bowling well too
...
...and Broad gets Powell ! Caught Anderson again...
Jimmy's day ?

Brilliant from England. Broad with another wicket. Windies sinking without a trace.
Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
great bowling but a few loose drives there, i tend to favour the good bowling argument being a bowler myself.

Jimmy and Broad (especially Jimmy) have out-thought the batsmen and created these opportunities. You can say loose shots but i think that they have all been set up by the bowling.

I am joining the debate, just as Shiv C is hit on a significant part by Broad and Chandrs in some trouble here.
West Indies can't afford this, they are already struggling on 63-4.

Evening billy...
All good here ... Local Weather is foul but the view of Trent Bridge is perfect on the TV and I am looking forward to watching some excellent cricket , while sipping a scotch or two ,with the weekend tomorrow to sleep in...
Thought Jimmy might have a good day here - he does love this ground!

A really great bowler seems sometimes to mesmerise his victims. Swing bowlers especially - Hadlee was also great at it.
Oooh. Wicket?

Yeah, but they don't have to play the shots they are getting out to. Sir Viv and the TMS lot blaming poor technique combined with inexperience - also acknowledging Jimmy has had a great spell.

Nice wicket before lunch to break this partnership and England will be batting by tea. Looks like England have finally worked out how to bowl to Shiv, he's looking uncomfortable out there.

Some good bowling now from Bresnan...beats Marlon with an outie now...
West Indies would be rapt to get to lunch without losing another one...not placing bets.

chuckle. Honestly think the best plan is to keep hitting him in the nuts.
Time for a couple of overs from Swann before lunch?

Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test - Trent Bridge
Swanns Cat, agreed. We should play to our strengths. Tests should always be held at Lord's (obviously), Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, The Oval and then after that the others should come in to it.
If it is a three or four Test series then those grounds I mentioned should be chosen, simple as that.

Yeah Fists, I get touring the country is good for revenue and such, but especially when we play the likes of Australia, SA and India, we should pick the grounds that offer the best conditions for us and harshest tests for opponents.

Couple of balls already from Swann keeping low, Samuels very good hitting the ball straight. Need a short mid wicket and drop mid on back three quarters and try and look for the lbw/inside edge

Yeah, South Africa should be playing at the grounds where England are best suited.
Flabbergasted that there isn't a Test at Edgbaston for either that series or the Ashes, considering our rich history there.

If we go to play in sub continent conditions, we should expose them to harsh swing

South Africa will be very difficult. England have some very good grounds for swing bowling which is the main bowling strength but the Saffers have some decent swing bowlers as well. That will be a cracking series

Lunch: Windies 84-4 having chosen to bat, and only Shiv, it feels, between them and oblivion. England have bowled well, Anderson exceptionally so.
England have perhaps relaxed a bit in the last few overs? And a couple of chances dropped or missed. A good morning, though.

84-4 at lunch.
Knock over 1 of these and a few could follow. England will be disappointed not be batting sometime tonight at this rate I suspect

Play at the Oval, Headingley and Lords in tests vs SA.
All test series between the top 3 teams should be 5 matches tbh. Disappointed that the top 2 teams in the world only play 3 times.

Trouble is fitting all the opponents in , to fit in with the ICC four year plan or whatever they call it... Not to mention lots of ODIs and breaks for t20 Superleagues...
Agree it is daft though : I would accept four matches sometimes , but that should be an absolute minimum.
