Boxing Seniors Divison!
Afternoon all,
Having read on an early thread this morning about "Razor" Ruddock attempting a comeback at age 48, thought i would get some thoughts on a seniors boxing division similar to what they have on the golf & tennis tours.
Now ideally, and i want to make it quite clear that i would rather fighters such as Ruddock and Bowe (who has also been spouting about a comeback recently) weren't allowed to receive their licenses to fight at all, but as we all know in boxing fighters can always find a license to fight somewhere. So, my suggestion would be if these old boys are going to get their license anyway, why not let them fight each other rather than see them dismantled by a younger/better conditioned prospect who they may have walked through in their respective primes.
So if Holyfield still wants a 5th world title, let him fight for the 'Senior World Heavyweight Championship'- i am sure that would keep him happy and he can stop turning up on undercards all over Europe trying to get a photo in the ring after fighters such a Povektin have just won, reminding everyone he is still here!
For arguments sake, lets say over 45 can qualify for the senior division (obviously the rare exceptions such a B-hop who could still remain competitive with the younger crop of fighters-we’ll ignore these freak of nature for the time being). They fight for their own senior belts, in their own senior weight classes and ultimately they will not harm the reputation of our beautiful sport any further as they are in their own totally independent organisation.
Now this article is really just a bit of fun for a Friday afternoon and I can't say i have a longing desire to see something like this come in to practice but as an alternative to old men coming back and saying they will knock out a Klitschko even though they haven't fought in over a decade i think it may have some legs.
And who knows if it did, Audley could realise his dream in 5 years time!
What are your thoughts?

Re: Boxing Seniors Divison!
Lewis has said he'd come out of retirement to take on Bowe and he'd do it for free if needed.
That would be huge.

Really? Two old fat past it men having a fight that in no way proves or hints at what might have happened had they actually met when they should have?

Lewis isn't fat now. He's lost his chub.
I just want to see him in the ring again.

I don't see why especially if hes one of your favourites? Hes pushing 50 now is he not? He has nothing to gain by lacing them up again at this stage of his life.

I think Lewis is rather lucky not to have people like you in his entourage jm! See what Ali's did to him?
Re: Boxing Seniors Divison!
He'd beat any heavyweight today in my opinion. Wlad aside.
I'm aware I'm being selfish. He's just my idol. If it means getting to see him again - I'd be open to him coming out of retirement.

Love the idea, set the age requirement at 45 (being a cap on the 'juniors' also) and we don't have to be subjected to anymore turgid Bernard Hopkins displays.

Not encouraging it, just that if Bowe etc want a license they will get a license one way or another, so just putting an option out there for them to carry on with it away from the main sport itself.
