Canelo vs ?????
Any ideas who will be brought in to fight Canelo?
I'm hoping its Lara but reckon he's too dangerous for GBP to risk their next cash cow against. Rule out Floyd also. Any other former welterweights with one foot near retirement or former named Midweights who could boil down to fatten this kids ledger?
I'm hoping its Kirkland. Canelo should beat him, but with their styles, it should lead to an exciting fight, providing it goes past the first round.

Re: Canelo vs ?????
Kirkland is the most likely one to come in, I'd imagine. If it's a slugfest, then it'll be a wildy exciting one, but Alvarez will win by a late TKO. If Alvarez fights sensibly, he wins by a wide decision. Either way, Alvarez beats Kirkland every single time, for me.
Back in 2007 / 2008, I remember thinking that Kirkland would be the future of the Light-Middleweight division, primarily because I expected him to keep out of trouble with the law and also develop some brains and skill to go with his brawn and genuine punching power.
He's done neither.
The lad is on borrowed time in terms of being a real threat at world title level, I think. He's the ultimate flat track bully; entertaining to watch, but not rounded enough to compete with the very best. Even these kind of fighters run out of marquee value eventually when it becomes clear that such is the case - Kirkland has a couple of fights left as a big-ish name, so I think Alvarez and Golden Boy will strike while the iron is still hot.
Lara will be ignored for as long as possible by Alvarez, I imagine. He's the brand new chairman of the 'who needs him?' club.

Re: Canelo vs ?????
Agreed on both points Kris. Kirkland is an exciting fighter that is destined to be beaten on HBO by a better man.
Lara would be a great choice but he is way too much of a threat to Alvarez and without a huge following, can't get noticed. Feel so sorry for Lara, such a good talent, but he is Founder, Chairman and CEO of the 'Who Needs Em' club.

Agree with the mods! Although I can't see this fight going the distance. I reckon Alvarez in less than 6. He will go through some hairy moments and will be very wary of Kirkland's power. I see Kirk forcing the issue and getting caught.

Would love to see him fight Lara, Kirkland has a glass jaw and I think Canelo would win by KO.
Lara would be a great fight and would really test Canelo's mettle.

That would be good, but he is scheduled to fight Delvin Rodriguez.

Trout is not bad, but has really struggled to get on TV.

Fair enough. Never seen him fight tbh. Has he been on FNF?
Yeah i think so. Not sure though. He is like a 20's fighter, there's barely any tape on him.

Agree on the Kirkland fight. Canelo should have the tools to beat him and keep the cash train a rolling. Kirkland's "indiscretions" seem to have put a bit of a spot on any development he was going to make as a fighter.

Trout is actually pretty good although not anything special. He is well rounded, skilled, has power but doesn't do anything really well. It also looks like they want a bigger name for the fight in September.
Kirkland most likely to fight

Kirkland deserves a shot and it should be a superb fight, the best option in my view.
