who's not at the under 20 wc?
Seeing as I'm killing time. Who's missing from this years tournement. I'll start the ball rolling:
NZ: Gnafatasi Sua (Injured), TJ Perenara (Hurricanes), and Sam Cane (All Blacks).

Re: who's not at the under 20 wc?
George Ford will not be there which is a major blow to England. At 19 he is the England under 20s captain and their talisman. He was missed during the under 20s 6N when club commitments took precident and considering he won the IRB Young Player of the Year award following his showing at last years tournament despite being the youngest player there his ommission is a big one. He is tiny though so a pre season to improve his conditioning and increase his 12 and a half stone weight will be good long term.
Watson the LI and England under 20s fullback is also missing out which is a shame as his mazy running and strength in contact really is great to watch. He dismantled the Irish defence within minutes of the kick off during this years under 20s 6N.

Isn't Kvesic (English openside) now missing after shoulder surgery.
Ford is a big loss but he has little left to learn at that level and will get a huge amount out of a proper pre-season with the Leicester firsts.

Scott Williams is coming up to 22 and isn't qualifed. Let's not start listing all the players not eligible due to age. We might be here a while.
Yeah Kvesic is injured

LD if that was the case then I think England could still register Manu Tuilagi for the tournament...
I'd not heard that, bad news indeed. Jamie Gibson was only in the Baabaas squad wasn't he? Will he be called up as a replacement?

Ireland have released the teams outhalf and Captain Paddy Jackson from the U20s after Ulster requested his omission.
Same reason as George Ford. Looking to give him a full pre-season with Ulster.

Sam - I think Kvesic's injury happened long enough back that whoever his replacement is will already be in the squad by now.

Kvesic dropped out the day after the squad was announced. Was replaced by Billy Vunipola.

Re: who's not at the under 20 wc?
England are also missing Elliot Daly, who's played a lot for Wasps this season, but has been injured, and Jack Nowell, the Exeter full-back who picked up a long term injury in the Amlin on the eve of 6N's. Scott Spurling, the Sarries hooker, Nick Auterac, the Sarries prop and Will Skuse, the Bath flanker, are also missing and I assume that they've been injured.
Of all of those, I'd say that the absence of Ford, Daly, Watson, Skuse, Spurling and Kvesic weaken the squad, and Nowell's injury leaves the squad with just one specialist full-back.

I gather the England FH is the Sale lad who has just signed for Wasps.
Been on loan to leeds all season and has some very good reviews...

Will we see Hanrahan move inside to 10 or is there someone else who could take over from Jackson.

I'd say JJ Hanrahan will move to 10 and Cathal Marsh will stay on the bench. Either Olding or Nelson will play 12.

Should be interesting,I've only seen Hanrahan play 12 but a few of the Munster lads on here think he could be the next Munster 10 in a few years.

Re: who's not at the under 20 wc?
Ford, Daly, Watson and Kvesic are all in England's best side, and Nowell may well have been, so some signficant losses there. I think Skuse may just have been omitted though.

Re: who's not at the under 20 wc?
from a welsh perspective, there are actually takin a far stronger squad to south africa than what they had in the six nations. However terms of omissions however how on earth Jordan Williams isnt involved is beyond me, one of the most talented youngsters i have ever seen. Dai Young boy thomas is also an exeptional prospect missing out as he has undergone surgery. Harry Robinson and George North will be on international duty despite being young enough to play.

My mates down there want him to be starting there from next season. He is fairly capable at either though, but there is a chance he will stay at 12 because Layden is out so we need a new full back which will mean enough of a reshuffle already.

Apparently when told he was having to play 12, Hanrahan replied that he didn't like it, but had to go along with it.

He is good enough to play either in my opinion. The problem with the u20 Ireland team is that with Jackson gone, Hanrahan is the next best 10 but if we move him to 10 and Farrell to 12 our 13s are fairly weak. Therefore the team would be stronger with Marsh, Hanrahan, Farrell even if JJ and Farrell aren't in their favourite positions.

JJ played 12 for the Munster u20s as well - Did Ruddock tell them to play him there?

Watching the debuts of Robinson this weekend and North two years ago, seeing how easily these guys adapt to senior international rugby, you realise what a big impact the players missing from the junior world cup can make.
Wales are sending a pretty decent squad down to SA despite lads of this quality already called up for senior duty.

Possibly - he plays 10 for his club, UL Bohs (recently promoted to Div 1a).
Is JJ the new Earls - shoved from pillar to post?

They probably aren't sure what his best position is Sin. Luke Marshall I think is playing 10 for Ballymena too, so I wouldn't put much significance as to where he is playing at club level.
I'd imagine Hanaran will break through at senior level at 12 and maybe move to 10 when he has more experience?
How far is he off the Munster 1st team do you think?

Re: who's not at the under 20 wc?
Here's a big call for the future. Look out for an up and coming NZ lock in the junior side in a couple of years.
His name is Nelson Asofa-Solomona. He currently plays for Wellington college in hurricanes area. He already stands out. He's fast, powerful and skillful. He's already at least 2 metres tall and weighs close to 110 kg. Here's the catch I think he's only turned 16 earlier this year. Here's a link to a local game look for no 5: http://www.skysport.co.nz/video/rugby-union/1st-xv-rugby/1st-xv-wellington-v-rongotai-61390/
There's obviously a lot that can happen. He could be injured, go to league, his family could be enticed overseas. Baring that he seems to have big potential.
