The Greatest ODI Knock?
Is this it?
http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/150015.html
I watched this knock from start to finish and he ended up bludgeoning our attack. Him and Holding put on 106 for the last wicket, of which Holding scored 12!
Any contenders?

Herschelle Gibbs, against Australia having to score at 9 an over from the start and getting 175 off I think 125 balls.
There can be no innings with more pressure than that.

Re: The Greatest ODI Knock?
It was a bit of a nothing to lose sort of innings at first but the pressure would have set once he was close.
Up there with the best of them, Biltong!

I personally thought that Ponting's knock to set up that chase was the better to watch.

I cannot, will not, and refuse to agree with you.
Never, ever.
I don't want to.

Punter's knock was superb and equally as good (fence sitting)
My favourite Ponting ODI knock was his 140 in the world cup final. Those sixes over long on were majestic.

Well think about it, you get a batsman to hit 150 or more in a first innings, it is fluent, agressive and highly entertaining.
And it has happened often.
But what makes Gibbs' innings the best (undoubtedly) is the fact that no one has yet emulated that type of pressure and success in a second innings chasing a score like that.

Re: The Greatest ODI Knock?
well possibly, but equally you could argue that at first Gibbs had nothing to lose as no-one believed his side could chase it down...
it's very hard for me to decide on a "greatest knock of all time" TBH, they've been too many...

boys, guys, friends, this is the one argument I am going to win, I lose every argument I ever have (maybe i should say debate instead of argument).
Gibbs' innings has not yet been emulated, any other innings under consideration has by a lesser or greater margin.
For that reason it stands as the one, the ultimate, the only, the defiance against all odds, the epic ODI innings of all time.
Oh, and by the way, it doesn't matter whether we believe he had nothing to lose, in most cases players playing an inning with such gay abandonement, takes that attitude.
