Diamond Jubilee
Now that the country's about to celebrate the world's biggest benefit scrounger reigning for 60 years over you guys, which fights since 1952 stands out either in terms of excitement or impact.
The obvious one is Ali/Liston.

This is the most fitting description I have heard about the old bag that doesn't set off the swear filter.

Oh and in my lifetime...it wasnt the biggest fight ever but the hype building up to Tyson v Bruno 1 was pretty epic and I struggle to remember a more anticipated fight over here (even though we knew Bruno would probably lose)

Steff the hype was OTT was'nt it. I remember that fight clearly and just to give you an exarmple of how popular boxing was back then, my old PRIMARY school teacher was hyping it up.

You got to hand it to her tho, I mean 60 years pocketing out taxes and here we are handing her gifts.
She should have been a boxing promoter.

If some 3rd world president decided to throw a 2 day party to celebrate his anniversary whilst his country was going down the pan, many would laugh and say "typical". This party will cost the economy billions in lost revenue and millions in staging the events. Let the scrounger pay her way. And pay taxes.
Anyway, Bruno Tyson is a good shout.

For impact Eubank v Watson and Benn v McClelland. They made the BBBoC get their finger out and start looking after fighters health and safety.

I'll add that Watson taking Duff to court to rid himself of the real slave contract and giving boxers more power is a great achievement. Great guy Michael.

Impa ct was probably Ali Liston as already said. Changed everything really and ushered in a excellent age for Heavies. But I personally would go for the Rumble in the Jungle myself. Hyped to heaven before and lived up to it.

in my life time:- lewis vs tyson, hamed vs barrera (i do live in sheffield though) and more recently haye vs wlad in terms of potential build up (many thought haye would come in and reshake the division from the bottom up)

Did the fight actually live up to expectations? Looking at it again, it wasn't the most exciting of fights. It was an event and was totally shocking how it ended. No-one expected the bully beat-down that occurred. But as a fight in itself, it wasn't the best.

Azania, you make a good point, but it's still discussed as a classic today, where strategy beat power. So I still see it as a class fight with far reaching ramifications. Let's be fair, Foreman was never the same force after this fight. If he had of won, he would have remained the dominant force for the next 3 to 5 years in my humble

I totally agree. When Floyd and Manny fight it will be a superfight. When SRR and Hagler fought it was a mega fight. When Ali fought, the world almost stood still. It was an event which made front page news across the globe.

I'm an unapologetic fan of the Queen, love the Royal family and, as a higher rate tax-payer, would rather see a few pence going to them than it being piddled up the wall on chav scumbags who just spend it on drugs and Sky TV living in their free homes and generallying raping the system.

Her impact on our balance of payments is epic and the whole country would be poorer without her. Plus from 2013 onwards she won't even be tax payer funded so the republicans and naysayers can shove that argument up their jacksies.

No more will be lost than when the RMT decides to strike because it's members, already being some of the best paid people in the country, fancy another inflation busting pay-rise.
Plus the economy is far from going down the pan, too much doomsday journalism.

Anyway, it's 27 years since the miners' strike ended. Are boxers wasting the chance to earn money by being inactive?
It's also 21 years since the break up of Yugoslavia. Do you like Serb boxers or Croat boxers best?

I would say yes to the first one, Croat for my second answer and not all that sure on the third one. You live in China, answer it yourself.

Rather have a President myself!!! Just because someone gets his legover..you're destined for a life of indulgement and priviledge....
Not for me get rid of the lot of them.....
Head of state should be someone who's worked for that title...
Hagler-Hearns for me.........excitement
Ali-Frazier 1 - Impact..

It's a ceremonial role, not head of state in an equivalent role. US President = UK PM.

Queenie has very little power and is, as Tophat said, a ceremonial monarch. She's not doing any harm so let her sit on her insignificant throne. But can we at least have a new national anthem? Don't really enjoy asking God to save a woman who has got where she is by being born.

She really doesn't. It's true that she carries out certain 'duties' in relation to Parliament but these are simply ceremonial duties. If she refused to carry them out, she'd be overthrown and removed from her position. The fact that we don't have a written constitution means that she doesn't have a specific role which can be protected.

Agree with as1079 (memorable name!) The Queen is a ceremonial monarch and we have various procedures purely for tradition.
She may have the power in principle but not in reality if she ever chose to put it in force. I'm sure she respects here position and knows this and it works for everyone.
I would however admit I hate our national anthem, not because of the words but just the sound the is awful. I want some African type one with lots of bongos and beat to get jiggy with!

It's in the Queen's remit should she choose to do it............
to kick out the Prime minister tomorrow....army is sworn to her!!!
Like all of your monarchs dating back to henry the 8th she has huge power.......
She doesn't use it.....but silly to say she hasn't got huge power...
She's the biggest fish this Country has...
