The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to the homeland of the wonderful Eirebilly, who we were all horrified to hear that he was involved in a helicopter crash on Friday. Better news though is that he's awake and swearing like a sailor, so no change there Feel free to take in all of the pubs, of which the Greyhound is but one of many.
Updates on Billy's progress can be found here: https://www.606v2.com/t30132-eirebilly-op-updated-02-06-2012 and I'm sure we'll all continue in sending the positive thoughts and good wishes to him and his family.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the snooker table, brought in especially for Billy. And I'm not quite sure how that picture of a sheep got above the bar.....
Old pub: https://www.606v2.com/t29683p950-the-dew-drop-inn-erc-2012-commemorative-pub-dublin#1271612

Not good Rodders.
Just watching the preliminaries of Australia v Scotland in the JWC, looks like the Aussie front row consists of munchkins...

They're mobile munchkins though, Australia dot down in the corner in the first minute.

Could be a long afternoon at the office for Scotland, two tries in the first four minutes; Australia 12 - 0 Scotland

Had already taken it into consideration! tis one of the reasons I hadn't wanted to go up that weekend in the first place. guess it will depend on when my friends are all free

Blydi hell, i thought I was being uber organised about my birthday, but turns out I should have started planning sooner!
I want to go and see Les Miserables in London for it, and most of the affordable tickets are already sold out
Got a choice now between the weekends of 14-15th or 28-29th July. Hadn't wanted to make my way up on either of those weekends as I was supposed to be doing things back here, but they're the only weekends around my birthday that my best mate in London is around for (and as it'll be a girls weekend we should be staying at hers). Hmmm, decisions, decisions...
I will never forget my experience of witnessing "Les Miserables" in London. It was a sensational show. Enjoy it!
Dreamer, if you are going for the w/e of July 28/29, don't forget the olympics start on July 27th .. current advice from the powers that be is to allow an extra three hours for travelling to the games. I know you aren't going that far east, but do take it into account.

That's the first thing that struck me Rava, where is everyone?
I know they're only juniors but I would have thought there'd be a bit more interest in SA?

Re interview - best of luck.
Will they shake hands with you when you are introduced? How's your handshake? Might seem a silly question, but having been on the other side of the desk a few times, I found myself immediately marking down candidates who offered me a very limp handshake.
Lots of good advice already given, as to nerves, remember two things, firstly nerves are a manifestation of adrenaline, everyone gets them, if you aren't nervous it means you don't care; experienced interviewers will expect you to be nervous; secondly, interviewers often get nervous too.
Can someone explain the whole strong handshake thing to me?
I've always heard about it and make a point to use a strong handshake but only because "its expected of you".
Whats the big deal about it. I understand it makes a bad impression but why? Why would a polite, professional and competent employee fare negatively due to a bad handshake.

It shows you're an absolute bull and up to the job.
I don't know really, I think it shows maybe some form of eagerness and willingness to help out the company?

Fair Question Stag, it shouldn't count against a competent candidate but I've always found it causes me to almost recoil when I shake someone's hand and find it limp and weak, almost as if I'm in danger of hurting them or something?
I guess it might suggest a weak character or similar somewhere in the sub-conscious mind?
No, I can't explain it.

You sometimes come across a nobber who tries to crush your fingers, but I always find a thumb between their knuckles tends to calm them down.

I'm not laughing at Thomond or anyone, just the idea in general. Just strikes me as another example of a Stone Age instinct in a modern mans mind. "Hmmm, this candidate has a powerful grip... he's strong and he will help us be successful in our hunting expeditions and wars with rival tribes. Also, he'll be competent in using Microsoft Excel and making the tea."

As a side note, id Godwin could hit a cows bum with a banjo Australia would have 60 points on the board now. As it happens it's only 48!
Sautier is some unit though, I bet he's got a firm shake.

A weak handshake is prefered in several asian cultures like China, Japan and South Korea and in Muslim countries a firm handshake is considered rude....

Afternoon All Hope everyone's well.
I've had a nice day out in Pontypridd visiting my sister. Had a walk around the town as well as I haven't done that for years. It's changed quite a bit. Ynysangharad Park is still lovely too. She's given me some home made muffins to scoff on as well.

Yes Rodders, a weak (slightly firm) handshake... a bit of a bow (more of a head nod) then straight into the heavy stuff. Whiskey or Sake in Japan.
This one office I went to in Nagaoka (on the west coast... so not many "gaijin" about) the whole office floor stood up and bowed as I came through the door with a company man. I felt caught off guard... so I gave the nod back and a sort of politician's wave to the crowd. It happens again when you leave.
It was also raining heavily when I left and an employee ran across the carpark to the guard house, standing to attention. He nearly got run over, in his haste, by the driver and we had a little chuckle about it in a very polite way.

PJ, you're watching this JWC game. Does the pitch look very narrow to you?

Very Australian conditions there, Biltong. Could have sworn I saw a koala in the trees out the back there.
I was thinking the same just before, Hound. The field looks narrow... or are those guys that big? Some look small and chunky as mentioned earlier but there are some really big 'kids' out there too.

It looks pretty small everywhere Hound now you come to mention it, but maybe because it's the lack of a stadium around it?
The Rec always looks like a small pitch for that reason...

The length of the pitch looks fine, but the width is narrow imo. Didn't really aee muxh of the wingers in that game. Unusual at this level.

I'd be surprised if they didn't shake your hand first Rory, just be confident make eye contact and give a firm and friendly handshake when you introduce yourself. Don't get hung up on it. Trust your instincts .

No Rory, don't let 'em leave you hangin'. If they don't offer leave it. If they do, nice and firm without squeezing, eye-contact a nice big smile - not a doggy-dentures smile - but nice and bright and don't forget to "smile with your eyes" too. You'll be sound bud.
