The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to the homeland of the wonderful Eirebilly, who we were all horrified to hear that he was involved in a helicopter crash on Friday. Better news though is that he's awake and swearing like a sailor, so no change there Feel free to take in all of the pubs, of which the Greyhound is but one of many.
Updates on Billy's progress can be found here: https://www.606v2.com/t30132-eirebilly-op-updated-02-06-2012 and I'm sure we'll all continue in sending the positive thoughts and good wishes to him and his family.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the snooker table, brought in especially for Billy. And I'm not quite sure how that picture of a sheep got above the bar.....
Old pub: https://www.606v2.com/t29683p950-the-dew-drop-inn-erc-2012-commemorative-pub-dublin#1271612

PJ - any contemporary song can be stripped back really. I like that song you've posted, although I'm not familiar with the original.

But that bit is entirely necessary to remind us that whilst the boy is taking the paternalistic roll of father figure in his family and growing up quickly, he is still very much a boy unenlightened, puritanical, philistines.

For me, he's the guy who gets the most mileage out of that aesthetic around at the moment. Tell them to listen to Veneer.
What works about that is it's a cover of an old, overproduced synth-pop tune by The Knife. And it's really over-produced and electronic, so when JG did his really stripped back cover it breathed new life into the song and it was a massive hit. It's hard to do that with genuinely contemporary songs because of their ubiquity. You aren't going to surprise anyone. Tell 'em to go crate digging!
But an acoustic version of something you would never expect is always good; with the percussion they have they could try their hand at this and it would sound great.

Good thanks Gibbo. Had a nice day up in Ponty with my sister. Came home, fell asleep reading. You OK?
Glas - they cut out the first bit, and showed him catching her just afterwards in the bombed house, so the viewer got the idea.

Thanks Gibbo & Cari, loving both of those.
Young isn't contemporary, but I'm going to push that one on them as it's timeless and just feckin beautiful, someone needs to educate the little shoites.
Cari, stroke of genius.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
Biltong, commisserations on the loss there. I only saw the first half, but SA looked to lack leadership on the pitch.
Well done Ireland, that (+ the puppy Pumas) has shaken this tournament up. Congrats to Wales too. Least said about Scotland the better, but that was an impressive Aussie outfit.
One point. After viewing most of today's televised games, the refs were calling far too much time between the touch pause and engage. I just wish the refs would get the scrum engagements sorted because at this level the guys want to get on with it, and there is little or no attempting to con the ref.
Perhaps they have been told to delay the sequence for safety reasons. If so it's misguided advice imo.

Thanksmate, yeah poor options, not learning through our mistakes in the first half, but Ireland deserved the win, they were all over us and we didn't adapt.

Notch, not only a couple of great song suggestions but some really good advice too (I'm particularly impressed with your use of the word "ubiquity"), Arron is downloading "Veneer" to his i-thingy and if they get to the stage where they need a manager, you're it.
As long as me, Rav and Gibbo can be roadies like.

I've read about that series Gibbo, wouldn't mind watching that. Perhaps I can somewhere on the net. There's been some good dramas from over there. I used to love Single Handed. Speaking of Irish telly, I watched Father Ted last night. Haven't watched it in ages. Can't get enough of Ted.

Yes Rav, and IMO it's a rare example of a film being better than the book it was based on.
There was a "leap from a helicopter" in the book that almost destroyed the entire story for me.

Hendo scored Rodders very impressive peformance from the team evidently.
Loving this jubilee concert aside from the fact my mum keeps jumping up and standing when the queen comes on.
Also those scum bags who disrupted the torch parade should have their knee caps removed with baseball bats. In my humble opinion.

rodders - I only saw the first half, but the Ireland 4-8 put in a great performance when the commentators thought they would be bettered. Hanrahan's kicking from hand was a bit wayward early on, but he hasn't been the only one putting the ball out on the full today.
Penfro, where the scrum engage is concerned I'm talking about this tournament. Maybe it has been an issue in other games you have seen.

When was the golden jubilee? 10 years ago? Did anything happen? I don't remember that one, I remember the silver jubilee in 1978 because my mom made me wave a union flag in Walsall as the queen went through at 90mph in a car that cost more than our street, but the best thing that happened that year was that England won the ashes in Oz.
I'm sorry, I'm not helping here am I?
