The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to the homeland of the wonderful Eirebilly, who we were all horrified to hear that he was involved in a helicopter crash on Friday. Better news though is that he's awake and swearing like a sailor, so no change there Feel free to take in all of the pubs, of which the Greyhound is but one of many.
Updates on Billy's progress can be found here: https://www.606v2.com/t30132-eirebilly-op-updated-02-06-2012 and I'm sure we'll all continue in sending the positive thoughts and good wishes to him and his family.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the snooker table, brought in especially for Billy. And I'm not quite sure how that picture of a sheep got above the bar.....
Old pub: https://www.606v2.com/t29683p950-the-dew-drop-inn-erc-2012-commemorative-pub-dublin#1271612

An acknowledgement of form at last. Maybe Reddan for Murray but generally I am delighted with that team.

Oh dear. He's tried to spice it up and it's gone Pete Tong. Is McFadden really your best winger? Is Murray going to turn in to Mike Phillips if he keeps picking him? Is Touhy there because he scored in the HC final?

Yeah I think we may lose the series now Glas, for sure we would have won imo with D'arcy, DOC and Trimble but at least we are moving the team forward.
We are a shoe in for the moral victory now .

As with all the best WUMS there is a little grain of truth that is what really piddles you off.
I know I'd be piddled off if I was Trimble.
On Warburton, no, he's always coming back from some injury or other, it's his default setting. I would have had Tipuric as bench cover though. I guess they can't bear to play without AWJ if he is fit, even if jet lagged.

I went past it today... the big stadium. It looks haunted without people but that whole area around it is teeming with life now. It's like 2 new suburbs... really great.
I was on my way to Council to deliver the equivalent of 26 trees explaining why my development has minimal environmental impact.
Glas, Nice article you put together, mate. I've explained to Kiwi I had a case of brain fatigue and post-wobbly-loss depression from Tuesday night.
As's thoughtful remedy has magnified things. Even though I am very happy for the Scotland players and fans. The world feels right in that respect. As I said the other day... I don't mind seeing the kilted ones in a state of utter blissshh.
Wales on the other hand....................
(love ya really... just go easy on us if we should fall again on the weekend. 2 losses in a week? That will really stir things up!)
All the teams out now - more bloody information to digest. Apparently Tomane had a training mishap this arvo and may also be out.

No Trimble hasn't been playing well and while I am reserved in my judgement of Zebo in defence I am happy with the call. Is McFadden a better winger than Trimble? No, definitely not but he has reasonable form for Leinster if not as spectacular as some of his colleagues.

I know Trimbs hasn't been in his greatest form but come on, he's still a better winger that McFadden OR Zebo. The Kiwis know where the defensive weakness is anyway, get anywhere towards Zebo and you're in

Trimble has been pants for quite a while. It is 12 months since he has shown his ability.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
I think McFadden is a weak link defensively..mind so is Zebo.... actually come to think of it we're feiced!
No, seriously I'm just glad Kidney is trying things here, potentially this is a much more potent attacking side than the expected team.... I just hope he has courage in his convictions if we lose this one.....

Er not quite true Stag... Trimble was in very good form up until the 6N. He had a stormer against the Tigers where he was motm. I thought he played well against Scotland in the 6N as well.
Since then he's been out of sorts a bit, but maybe not as bad as made out. Ironically his subdued form conicided with the news of Bowe returning to Ulster......

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
OK thats an exaggeration to be fair. . . .
I am happy to see progress. However progress on pitch is far more important.
I have always said this tour is what I will judge Kidney on. I wanted:
1. New Players
2. New Gameplan
3. At least 1 win against NZ
If I get all three I will be delighted with the coaching team.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
That's the feeling I got rodders.
He's trying things... clearing out some dead wood. (in Australia's case... it's a small national park). Every team on the up has to do this.
I know some of you guys aren't happy with Kidney's 'comfort zone', etc but now he's putting his cards on the table and going with Zebo.
Don't worry; the kid will swim... he's there for attack and he'll do his best to cope defensively, hopefully with some support from his centres out wide or in the channel.

Obviously. Haters gonna hate.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
Number 3 is a big ask stag. Whilst I accept Trimble's form has been questionable he is still a better winger both in attack and particularly defense than either Zebo or Fergus. I just worry we may miss his physicality and tackling against the AB's.

Number 3 is a massive ask.
However its what we need to aim for. Anything else is just a plucky defeat and business as usual.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sixmilebridge
2 outta 3 ain't bad, staggy.
'2' should follow '1' if you consider every new game is unique - lessons from 6N addressed, cope with injuries, retirements, etc so there should be a new game plan with the new players, formations.
'3' would be history making though. Nice thought, right?

2/3 aint bad.
I wont consider the tour a success unless we get all 3 though.
Its like in the RWC we aimed for semi final but fell short.
We need to be making history and moving forward beating the All Blacks, getting to the RWC semi finals, winning 6 Nations titles etc.

Yes of course. That's the goal.
Quite interesting that all teams have made some changes. New coaches, players... it's like the old deck's been shuffled and every team has a chance to shine and show their new wears. Should be some good contests coming up.

It's going to be 11-21 in Brisbane on Saturday. Sunny icon with a small raining cloud in bottom left hand corner.

To get over this mound of beating NZ, we first need to stop calling them the all blacks. There is a huge air of mistisim around the "all blacks" everyone in camp and the brush media should just call them New Zealand, just another country and nothing special

It's easier said than done, Hughie. Players and coaches can call them whatever they like, but when you're out there facing the Haka, it must be difficult to tell yourself they're just another team (even though they are).

Im not so sure. We say "the Boks" a lot the time doesn't mean we have a barrier against them.

I explained to Hound a couple of years ago how the NZ cricket team had a really good 1992 world cup by getting past the big names on other teams. Rather than quake in fear at the awesome West Indies (well they were then) or Australia they renamed them. So it was "Team Yellow" vs Australia, "Team Purple" vs the West Indies, "Team Green" vs South Africa, etc.
So applying that strategy all you have to worry about on Saturday is Team Bla- ... err, I'll get me coat.

The thing is the All Blacks is a brand name now, not just the team. Difficult to change that.

I've made it into work via a really slow overland train to Paddington (If Hoog ever gets a job at Worst Late Western he's got an earful coming his way), touch wood the Central is back working for this evening. Though flooding takes a bit of cleaning up.Linebreaker wrote:Looks superb Kiwi. Pity Tomane's out now although Vuna is an able replacement.

True. And last week the NZRU renamed New Zealand Maori the "Maori All Blacks" and the Sevens team the "Sevens All Blacks". All in the name of milling the brand ...

Morning pub,
Large vat of please.
It's tense in the office, some people find out today if they've been job matched with the new service provider, and the rest find out next week! Doesn't involve me directly I know but god I feel sorry for them.

I'm still temping Stag, working at the local drug service until the end of this month. It was an NHS service but they lost the tender and it's gone to a private company. There's fewer jobs available with the new provider than there are existing posts so it's all getting rather uncomfortable.
