Scotland V Aus
First topic message reminder :
It's quite simple, Scotland have the set peice to absolutely dominate. The weather is poor, and Aus have an uninspiring backline for their standards. Scotland have the beef, and the preperation, Aus have 6 debutants!
Surely this game can only go one way?

What a performance of free flowing rugby, blowing the Aus out of their way. Very creative, great attacking threat and defencive effort!!
Seriously though, anyone think that a better picked Scot lineup wouldve taken this poor Oz side to peices first half?

Fantastic for the scots! So pleased for them. They always seem to turn it on against the SH sides!

Brilliant stuff Scotland! Fancy that, the 12th seeds toppling the 2nd seeds away! Always believe
Superb, defiant defensive line throughout. Up there with Ireland's victory last year. Suddenly the SH fortress looks breachable. Every Death Star has a flaw
Now I pray that Wales can emulate our Home Nation companions and beat the Aussies Down Under. What more could you ask before the Lions than all four nations doing it in the previous three seasons?

That means there is more to loss and less to win for Wales.
Now im sad...

Imagine if Wales went on to lose all three matches, they'd be the only one of the home nations who hadn't beaten Australia in their last tests, yet it's expected they'll make up the bulk of the Lions XV

Well done Scotland, no doubt the conditions helped but that was a truly brilliant defensive performance in the 2nd half and a result that I didn't expect.
No doubt this will fire Australia up for Wales though!

No - there was only marginal changes to be made and one I wanted, Stroickosh not to play would have been wrong.

Scotland have a fantastic nack of dragging teams down to their levels. I dont mean that in a bad way at all. They played the conditions well in the second half. Fantastic win. Andy Robs just got a 3 year contract extension.

Re: Scotland V Aus
Must say, at half time I didn't think we were going to win that. Thankfully Australia were even more inept at turning pressure into points in the 2nd half than we were in the 1st.
Deans will take some flak for that. A trully brainless performance from the Aussies.
Not that I care. Fantastic effort from Scotland. Huge defense, massive focus and concentration, and a great smash and grab effort at the end. Euan Murray's best performance for a long time, and Ali Strokosch and John Barclay in particular were both immense in the back row.
Many congratulations Scotland and also to Andy Robinson. Deservedly taken some criticism over the last 12 months, but he must surely take some credit for that. It was a very Andy Robinson sort of performance. Gritty, tough defence and good scrum. I would have said good set piece, but the lineout was dreadful (although it was nice of the ref to allow Moore to throw squint and not Ford).
Deserved win. More so than than when we won at Murrayfield a few years ago.

Geezus its hard being a scotland supporter. 70 minutes in and id lost my voice from screaming at them to stop kicking for touch, and was mentally drafting a post bemoaning lack of intelligence at consistently trying tactics that werent working, our pick and drives making virtually no ground at all, repeated kicks into the wind when they had watched the aussies struggle with that in the first half etc, but now I dont know what to think. We won, but made it harder for ourselves.

That was a game for forwards, and oz had nothing to show. Few high kicks and no grubbers to force mistakes/pens. They just lumped it up and went nowhere fast as Scotland matched them and had great discipline.
That headbutt was gold, defo the match highlight

Re: Scotland V Aus
very good result for the scottish!
And what a good performing by the Scottish back row to defending so well for so long and make so many turn over!
And the tight forward for Scotland do also very good job in some Scottish weather!
Very much composure for the kick to win the game.
Now the pressure go hard on to Wales!

Theres really not much to see. Rugbydump will likely have the only highlights, that being Laidlaws kick, and Ansbro headbutting Strokosch after the whistle.

Well done Scots. At half time with that wind and only three in it I thought we were going to get home, but that second half effort from your boys showed remarkable passion and character. Good win. Good luck for the rest of your tour.

Theres not a lot they can strengthen the side with. And many of the senior players who started today will be too knackered to play a full 80 at the weekend as well.
Youd expect more from them, and more helpful conditions, but that was always going to be the case regardless of the scotland result. Wales wil have been helped by the aussie players going through a tough game that was shoehorned in midweek. They havent got that much time to work on things before sunday and little time to recover.
Wales wont get chances to turn over sanzar sides at home as good as this very often.

The pressure was massive on wales before this- and now its even bigger.
However wales look 10 times the team this 6n's than they did in the wc.
I can see wales winning at least 2-1

Well these condition suit a lot Scotland and blunting the Australia backs. But gives a tuning for the Australian back row 3 and we can remember last time with Samoa win then Australia end up win the tri-nations! So might be not mean so much in the big picture. I make a thread about what this means for points by Wales to get to top 4 ahead of England. Maybe is best to make talk about wales some other place like this and not confuse a great Scotland winning thread about the common fight?
WELL DONE SCOTLAND!
